Cal Poly SLO
UC Davis

Both have teams.  Not good ones at their level.

Dan Hawkins is in his first year back at UCD. I expect them to finally see some D1 success and I think Hawkins will stick around for awhile when they do. Sac State has grabbed the better recruits in recent years because of their high-profile upsets but that's likely to shift to UCD.

Haven't been on this board for awhile but in response to the CLU job, I'm not surprised at all that Dains didn't get the gig. When a major supporter of the university wanted Rider to be gone for awhile, he's not going to miss a chance to push for change when Rider finally went away. This really wasn't about Dains, it was a dislike for Rider and basically guilt by association.

I believe it was Robbie Earl that made the point, how insanely soft are you mentally if you get piggybacked  across a puddle of water because you don't want to get your boots wet during practice?  I think Mr Right nailed it. These guys were overconfident and played with no urgency. I'm one that doesn't see the need to keep anyone 30 and over around for the next cycle. These guys didn't earn a second chance. Rather replace with youth and/or less talented players that play with heart.

The effort was a disgrace. Scrap everyone 30 and over and start again.

Our thoughts from the weekend...

1. Eph fans, don't get too excited...they have played probably the worst 2 teams in the league in weeks 1 and 2. Reality sets in this week.

The excitement comes from being one of the worst 2 teams in the league to beating the worst 2 teams in the league.

Maybe her personal issue was: how to achieve the ultimate life goal of dismantling Oxy football.

A rare (possibly first?) mention of Amherst in the SacBee

Regional rankings for the west:

West Ė NCAA data sheet

1 St. Thomas  19-1 19-1
2 Whitworth 19-1 20-1
3 Whitman 17-3 18-3
4 Concordia-Moorhead 14-6 14-7
5 Bethel  14-6 14-6
6 St. Johnís  15-5 16-5
7 Dubuque 12-6 15-6

I assume this bodes well for Whitworth and Whitman getting an at large bid if they don't win the tournament.  For the people, that understand the system, can you enlighten us on what this means?

The first week they don't apply all the criteria so give it another round before putting too much stock in the rankings.

Not to be overlooked is this little fun fact.  At the 10:13 mark last night, with Williams playing their rival Amherst at home, with the score 24-11 at the time, Taysean Scott checked into the game playing until the 7:43 mark.  Doesn't sound significant until you realize Mr. Scott has been on the Williams roster for 43 games prior to last night - he has racked up 42 DNPs in those 43 games with his only time on the court being 5 mins played a few weeks ago in the Johnson St blowout.  Folks may have noticed the whole bench cheering him on.  Must have been a fun moment for him.
