I don't know where this was the rest of the season, but UWSP throttles UWRF 98-65 last night.  All that really needs to be said is that Brady Wagner I believe ended up with 16 and Peter Timmermann scored 20.  UWRF was without Stensgard and Noah Hanson last night as well, I didn't hear a reason for that whether it is injury or covid related.

For the first time this year, the radio station had Coach Semling on after the game.  They also talked to Garrett Nelson.  The most noteworthy news coming from those interviews is that it looks more likely than not that Garrett will be back next season.  He has been playing much better these last couple weeks and some experience back for next year's young squad will be welcome.  Garrett is ahead on his schooling and if he gets accepted into his master's program at UWSP will be back to play, his words.

There was contract tracing with UWEC. If certain UWRF players weren't available yesterday, they also aren't available Friday or next week.

After listening to Nelson, it seems to me, pretty 50/50 either way.

I'm happy to see the WIAC sticking to their plan of alternating who plays first and second in case of a doubleheader. Last year in Eau Claire women were at 6pm and men at 8pm against Stevens Point. This year, the men are playing in the afternoon in La Crosse and Oshkosh with the women to follow at night.

The March 1st games are spread out for the men which is nice to see. COVID protocol dictated more than anything, but still good for us fans catching the streams.

Stout at Oshkosh 2pm
Stevens Point at La Crosse  3pm
Whitewater and River Falls 6pm

Wow, Platteville got the East #1 seed and the bye.

Point snd Stout were out classed again on Friday night. Whitewater hung around for a while again against Platteville, but it wasnít enough as Platteville closed strong.

Oshkosh menís recap mentioned seeding will be finalized tomorrow, Sunday. West should be set at least. La Crosse and Oshkosh will host doubleheaders on March 1. Platteville and River Falls men will host while Whitewater and Eau Claire women will March 1.

Seeding procedures have been updated on the site. Division games only to determine the seeds.

By the looks of it if Platteville and Oshkosh win out this week there would be a coin toss.

Also, the Eau Claire women have already won their West division even before play starts tonight.

With the women's WIAC tournament taking place the same three nights (they opted not to stagger to a T/Th/S format for the opposite gender), there's a strong potential for several W/M doubleheaders to take place, especially on March 1 for the opening round, but possibly on Wed. and Friday, too.

This was new last year. They did this to avoid playing on the day before selections are announced which is also the day of committees finalizing selections. Also they could move to this day as a last resort if weather were an issue.

I tend to think Whitewater/Oshkosh will not be made up. Mondayís are really the only chance to make games up and they skipped one chance already. Now they could prioritize the division game and play it next Wednesday or Friday but then Eau Claire and Stout would have to play three times.

WIAC Championship format.  No special tiebreakers released yet.

Schedules for most teams have been recently posted. Teams are going to 20 doubleheaders against conference only opponents. Same divisions as basketball but Finlandia will be in the East and Platteville will be in the West.

Teams will play two doubleheaders against every conference opponent for 28 games in conference standings. Then you will play your division opponents for two additional doubleheaders for 12 games that will be treated as nonconference games and not count in standings.

Total of 40 games scheduled. It starts March 20. Interesting it looks like softball, golf, and tennis have the ability to schedule opponents not in the conference, but not baseball.

Freshman have been added to Platteville's roster, 21 players listed.

Something that completely has been lost the shuffle. Freshman Reed Gunnik transferred from Platteville to Oshkosh at semester.

Good to have the WIAC back. What fun night of hoops. Masks were not required during games in Oshkosh, Stevens Point, and Whitewater. Masks were worn by both teams at all over venues. It appears Platteville may have the strictest protocols to follow. The benches there were on the opposite side of the scores table and the Platteville womenís team wore masks while the Oshkosh women did not during play. All others appear to be similar with spread out benches but otherwise fairly normal for basketball these days.

I know many are patiently waiting an announcement from the NCAA today. Consider this. Today is National Women and Girls in Sports Day. The NCAA has advocated and promoted this day. You then canít turn around and limit opportunities the same day for students athletes. Optics and perceptions matter to some. Especially when many schools and conferences have found a way no matter how financially difficult.

Tomorrow is another day and I expect an announcement then. Call me crazy and Iím probably over thinking, but itís just one thing Iím thinking why we havenít heard anything today.

Pat Miller was on Whitewater Athletics podcast that was released today. Some note worthy highlights. He said a senior is out with an injury with a fracture in his leg and will not play this season. He did not mention Ards by name, but it's likely him as he is the only senior on the roster. He said they have lost Caleb Flaten-Moore who was playing great. He had an ACL injury and lost him for the year. Miller said this hurts inside depth a little bit. He said he is happy with the work ethic of this group and is excited to see them play.  Miller also reminisces on NCAA Tournament runs in 2009, 2012, and 2014. Just listening the 2009 regional at Elmhurst was loaded with great teams.

Brad Fischer was on WSCO this morning. Some note worthy highlights. Oshkosh has four seniors on it's roster. Only one, Karsyn Rueth will not return next season. That means 2020 WIAC player of the year and 3rd team D3Hoops All American, Leah Porath will return in 21-22 along with 2020 WIAC honorable mention Nikki Arneson. It sounds like both are pursuing double majors. Pat Juckem told him to treat this season like a foreign trip and what you can gain from this season is great. He also said Juckem at Wash U doesn't have any games on the schedule right now. Fischer said the WIAC is using BinaxNOW for testing which is in the $5-10 range. He said their program dealt with some false positives in October which halted the program for about 8 days. He said the conference will not name a regular season champion.

Nice job on the poll to the crew. Looks pretty good. Only 17 voters missing from a total of 50 combined men and women is good in a crazy season. Well done to all 33 who turned in a ballet. That is a accomplishment in itself.

Bob Semling was on WPCN this morning. Some note worthy highlights. Mayson Hazaert has a dislocated kneecap and will likely miss the entire season. Logan Vander Velden transferred at semester and it seemed like there might be eligibility issues right now, but Semling was hopeful he could play some point this season. Anthony Espensen has had nagging/reoccuring ankle issues and hopes to get him going as the season starts. Semling noted they have had some COVID opt outs. So, any potential players missing from an expected roster of incoming and returning players could be due to this. He said Ryan Peterson of Pines was their number one recruit and likes his potential.
