Multi-Regional Topics / Re: Covid Impact on Conference Scheduling
« on: July 27, 2020, 08:13:28 pm »
Announced July 27

The President's Council of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), after much deliberation and discussion, has voted to postpone the 2020 fall competition in the team sports of volleyball and soccer and move both sports to a spring 2021 season.

Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Golf and Men's and Women's Tennis will be allowed to have limited competitions during the fall of 2020 while following the directives of local, state, and national health organizations.

List of fall affected: https://www.d3sports.com/notables/2020/06/schools-call-it-off-for-fall

And this page also denotes which schools/conferences are out for the full fall semester, not just the fall sports season.

Yikes, I had no idea the list was already so significant...  the D3sports item supplies it all.... I'll have to start checking it, as for all these years I've been 99% D3hoops with a smattering of D3football...

Pat this page that I started probably isn't required... feel free to take down....

I felt as we get closer to the "normal" school year, the readers of D3hoops would most easily keep up to date with conference reschedules, postponements or cancellations in one spot.... as far as I'm concerned, fall sports announcements could be reported here too, as they would likely help prepare us all for winter changes....

To start, it was reported in the NCAC room today... that all sports in the NCAC have been suspended until at least December 31, 2020.

Webster fans and SLIAC fans... fun article to read as Coach Chris Bunch selects 15 all decade players... great memories!!

TO  :  SLIAC coaches or SIDS who read this site....... it would be great fun to have other SLIAC schools do the same analysis!!!

FWIW.... the Sunshine State Conference (hopefans local D2 conference which includes Eckerd, just a 5 minute drive from our condo) announced postponement of all fall sports until next spring.... winter sports agenda will be determined by Oct 1...

Of course with Floridaís abysmal Covid numbers, it comes as no surprise....

Here's a question... IF it is announced that fall sports are cancelled, will those athletes who are impacted return to school anyway, or will they decide to take a year off and retain their remaining eligibility?  I would imagine a certain percentage of student athletes faced still with the possibility of covid exposure on campus AND no sports competition might think about taking a year off.... and to carry it further, given the already small numbers that most SLIAC schools deal with, could they afford to lose 20, 30 or more students?

It's a mess.....

Statement from the SLIAC on fall sports:https://www.sliac.org/general/2020-21/releases/20200709lwviuh

Here's the main point: "It is the current intention of the SLIAC to host regularly sponsored SLIAC intercollegiate athletics as well as non-conference opponents on all nine member campuses."

In contrast to the statement above, I was told yesterday (by insider) that the chances "did not look good" that fall sports would take place in the SLIAC.... I must say that the statement posted by the SLIAC that their current intentions were to play, both shocked and disappointed me....

Ronk... very nice of you to ask... the trip of a lifetime was exactly that.... we flew to Sydney, cruised Australia and New Zealand... our timing could not have been better, saw rain only one day (a day when we had no excursion scheduled), fires were all over (never saw even smoke ), and most important, we beat the corona virus by days, returning end of February (Norwegian had numerous safety protocol procedures in place already, and I never heard of any cases coming out of the cruise).
And goodness, Australia excursions were good, New Zealand was even better... only downside was the lengthy flights.....

Calvin's schedule is posted, if that hasn't made it to the board yet.

https://calvinknights.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/schedule

It currently lists Augustana twice on Friday Nov 20 and Sat 21, but I'm guessing one of those is Illinois Wesleyan which would complete the four-year cycle.

Non-conference slate is Illinois Tech, UW-Stout, Augustana, (Illinois Wesleyan), Anderson, Wheaton, Wooster Tournament (x2), Cornerstone, Aquinas, and THE Grace Christian University.

What???  Can't see my 2nd favorite team at Eckerd College down the street from me again.????.. it was fun last year...

Todd Creal on Facebook...

The last couple weeks have been difficult to say the least. The announced closing of MacMurray College hit me hard and the range of emotions from sadness to anger have been a roller coaster. I have been searching for the next step for me and for my family. I am very happy to announce that I have been offered and accepted the Associate Head Menís Basketball Coaching position at Westminster College in Fulton, MO. I am grateful for the opportunity to work for Head Coach Matt Mitchell, a coach that I have the utmost respect for. Matt really helped me get the job at MacMurray College 13 years ago. I will also be the Sports Information Director there. Happy to be around great people. Happy to be at a great place. Happy and proud to be a Blue Jay!

Very nice to hear.

hopefan...."what's Facebook?"
