He is back on long rest.  He will need to prove he can comeback after three days rest if a title is to be earned.  Lucky for him, super regionals gives him full rest for both weekends.

Gave up 5 ER to Centenary today in the first 3.0 IP but shut them down in the rest of a CG win (8-5).

TLU seems to have the offense to keep any pitcher close.

I'm at a loss to understand how the starter for TLU got the L.

Got to hand it to Schreiner this year, a very small school beating nationally ranked TLU and almost beating nationally ranked Trinity last week. Congrats to them.

With TLU's 11-3 win over Schreiner today, the seeds for the SCAC tourney should be set:

1.  TLU 14-4 (on h2h tiebreaker)
2.  Trinity 14-4
3.  Centenary 10-8 (on h2h tiebreaker)
4.  Southwestern

FWIW, Centenary's (571) even smaller than Schreiner (743).

Pretty ugly weather in the metroplex this week, 80% chance of rain tomorrow will make getting the two opening games of the SCAC championships challenging.  Good thing the facility in Decatur is turf and not grass.   Weekend should be fine, tho.

Decatur? I believe the tourney is at The Depot in Cleburne.

LOL I was looking at the Cleburne Depot website and subbed in Decatur for reasons I can't fathom.  Same comments still apply about the surface and the weather.

Good grief ...

TLU in the championship tomorrow with a 2-0, four-hit gem over Trinity in the early game;
Southwestern held off a furious Centenary rally 11-10 in the first elimination game and are about to play Trinity for the right to match up against TLU tomorrow (late start won't help either team, was supposed to start at 7 but the earlier game went long as you might expect with 21 runs scored).

Luke Richards is pitching for SW, making his first start of the season (1-0, 4 APP, 7.0 IP, 9 K, 5.14 ERA).   Not sure who will get the start for Trinity - wait, it's Holden Nix, 5.0 IP, 7.20 ERA. 3 APP and 2 (obviously short) starts.

Despite being held to six hits, Trinity gets past Southwestern 4-2 thanks in no small part to seven shutout innings from Ian Hussien (5-2) in relief of a struggling Nix who had loaded the bases with none out in the third.

But that said, the Tigers find themselves in a difficult situation today with all their starters having thrown non-trivial innings the last two days.   The bats will have to come alive for them to have any chance against a TLU team that has a very fresh bullpen (in two games, starting pitchers have thrown 16.1 of the 18 available innings).

Trinity somehow finds enough pitching to win two against TLU and wins the SCAC tournament.

First game:  TU received 8 strong innings from their starter, first-year Arjun Thakar (8.0 IP, 3 ER, 9H in only his third start of the season [2-1, 2.64 in 30.2 IP]) as the team pounded out 18 hits in a 9-3 win.  Dalys Binder and Jack Wisniewski were both 3-5 with Wisniewski driving in three runs.    In the second (a.k.a. "pitch by committee") game, after TLU had taken their first lead of the game after scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth, Dalys Binder delivered with one-out double in the bottom half which scored two, and Trinity held on to win 6-5.  Game 1 starter Jeff Lonnecker got his second W of the weekend in late relief, recording the last 1.1 innings.

In their three "must win" games, Trinity committed a total of one error.

The team now waits a week to see if the NCAA will award playoff hosting duties.  TLU should receive a pool C and whichever team wins the ASC (Howard Payne, LeTourneau, or favored and regionally ranked Concordia) is in driving distance.

Of course, if the idea is to have enough pitching developed by Tourney time, then you have accomplished that goal.
