So the season series between E and H and RC is tied 1-1. E and H won at their place in a back and forth game by 2. RC won at their place by 7, but E and H didn't have their point guard at that time. This game should be close the whole way through.

RC loses 72 to 70 in the championship. Freud missed a desperation 3 (hit the back of the rim) as time expired. EM and H controlled the game the entire time and had the lead the entire game. Congrats EM and H on the ODAC championship. My Maroons had a good season (20-8), but it stinks to not complete it with a ODAC championship. Good luck to EM and H in the tourney.

Boy did they ever have the Gennies #

Congrats to Roanoke. They are really the only ODAC team that had W&L's number every time they stepped on the court. Well deserved trip to the finals and an amazing run so far this second half of the season.

Great final  - Good Luck Wasps in the NCAA's!

Ouch!  The USA South and the ODAC are out early as Nebraska Wesleyan beats Maryville, 94-70, and F&M tops E&H in a battle of the ampersands, 73-59.  Good seasons, men.

Well, the ODAC is out in hoops, but 180 days until the Huntingdon Hawks and Guilford Quakers kickoff in Greensboro!  :)

Dear D3 Faithful ;D,
I have read many of your posts throughout the years and even met some of you in person, but for those who I havenít met, let me introduce myself: my name is Michael Rejniak and I have spent over 14 years coaching Division 3 basketball and love what our division has done and continues to do for  the sport of basketball. One of the greatest things about Division 3 basketball is the brotherhood that we all have with one another (coaches and players alike). My wish is to showcase the talents of D3 on a national stage in The Basketball Tournament (TBT).  You may have heard me speak about this on the Hoopsville Marathon with Dave McHugh of D3hoops.com (at the 6:11 mark). The TBT is a national tournament that is televised in July/August on ESPN after the NBA season is over. My goal is to put forth an all-star D3 team (current players are ineligible) and have them compete in this tournament to take on Former D1 / semi-pro's to prove that D3 deserves the same respect as other NCAA divisions. The team is mostly complete with former student-athletes from all over the country competing. Once the roster is complete we will be sure to release it through d3hoops. Former Babson College National Champion Matthew Droney '17 will also be assisting me on this journey.

How YOU can help our former elite D3 basketball players

While the end prize of this tournament is a monetary prize, being a D3-lifer, the goal is not the money (we all know that's not why we get into coaching), the goal is to bring an end to the stigma of Division 3 basketball, an awareness of how talented our student-athletes are and that we can compete (and win) against the best. We do need to raise funds for an entry fee, travel, meal and housing expenses for the athletes. In order to do this, we are conducting a crowd-funding campaign through GoFundMe to help make this a reality. These athletes need your support! Just think -- if every Division 3 school donated just $10, we will have raised over $4,000!!!! The link to the GoFundMe Page is below and please SPREAD THE WORD and email me with any questions/concerns at WeAreD3TBT@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your support and Dave and I look forward to this "D3 Dream Team" taking the court this summer.-Mike Rejniak

Congratulations to UMBC and their Head Coach, Ryan Odom, on the first ever #16 win over a #1 as the Retrievers beat the UVA Cavaliers, 74-54.  For those of you who don't know, Ryan Odom was a guard for the Hampden-Sydney Tigers from 1992-96.  Ryan is the son of former WFU and South Carolina HC, Dave Odom, who played at Guilford and graduated in 1965.

The Buffalo coach played at Maranatha Baptist - two d3 guys with big upsets in the d1 tourney.

That's awesome. Does anyone know how many former D3 players, assistant coaches, head coaches are now coaching/working in some capacity in D1 basketball programs? R-MC did this article a few days ago -- and it doesn't include Mike Rhoades: http://rmcathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2017-18/releases/R-MC_in_NCAA_Tourney.

I also wonder to what extent this phenomenon plays out in other sports -- e.g. football and the W&L coach going to Davidson.

Probably a lot. DIII guys are well suited to become coaches. Namely because they are really good athletes that play at really high levels, but they aren't the kind of athletes that can just get by on athleticism an natural talent. They need to know the game, inside and out, because if they really were athletic enough just to dominate, they wouldn't have been in DIII. Undersized, a little under speed, guys that learn how to be in the right place at the right time, they can communicate these techniques. The guys that could always just dominate with athleticism, not so much. They never needed to learn the minutia and they have a harder time coaching because it's hard to pass on what comes naturally to you.

There are a lot. USC's head coach is a Hopkins grad (and former FT career shooting record holder until this year). Texas coach is another quick one to remember. Mike Neer was talking to me about all the players and assistant coaches he has had that are now in D1 and in this year's tournament. The Patriot League has plenty of connections. Many more than people realize.

^^^ I did not know, until looking it up just now, that Shaka Smart had gone to Kenyon. Thanks, Dave.

In 2016 I complied a list of all d1 men's basketball coaches who went to a d3 school.  There were 54 then.  I'm sure there have been a lot of changes in two season, but there's usually a pretty solid amount.
