Nighthawks fall to Lesley

The Lesley College women’s basketball team improved their record to 5-13, as they cruised past host Newbury College by a score of 69-49 tonight in Brookline, MA.  Rookie Hailee Lowe (Hamilton-Wenham, MA) led the Lynx in scoring with 15 points, while Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, MA) and Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, MA) added a dozen points for Lesley.

Newbury played hard throughout the game, leaving everything they had on the floor.  Jessica Lightfoot (Sewell, NJ/Clearview Regional) led the Nighthawks with 15 points, scoring all of her points by way of the three.  Senior Jessie Laliberty (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) fought hard and ended the game with a double double scoring 12 points and ripping down 11 boards respectively.

The Nighthawks drop to 0-17; they will host Nichols College on Thursday, February 1; game time is 7:00.

Johnson State is rolling after upsetting Castleton last week. They have won 5 in a row and if they beat Elms and Becker this weekend they will clinch 2nd in the west!!!! Cladia Martineau has been Rookie of the week 4 times and Player of the week once. She is really coming in to her own. 5th in scoring ave. 15.3Pts/ game!!!  Jenna Lewis is 2nd in 3pt Percentage at .404. Scoring 11.8 Pts per game.  12-11 after tonights beating of 15-3 Lyndon State. This team is peaking at the right time.

Does it make sense to anyone else how MMA can be ranked higher than Farmington even though Farmington has beat them twice?  Yes I know UMF has one more loss but last time I checked MMA never played USM this year.  I don't know it doesn't make any sense to me.

Congrats to Becker College Womens Basketball on a heck of a week and winning the NAC championship. Coach Godin and Coach Thomas got those ladies working hard and they peeked right at the right time. Good luck in the NCAA's Dean.

Maine Maritime Academy head coach, Craig Dagan is pleased with his team's prospects for the 2011-2012 season. Coming off of a 17-10 season, the Mariners are loaded with experience and leadership. Now they have their sights set on the squad's first North Atlantic Conference championship since 2005...
