a nice feather in Muhlenberg's cap from a different part of the country. read on

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A couple of notes from Kangaroo land:

The grapevine reveals "talk" of a possible replacement for the Colorado College game. Not in a position myself to give specifics but wish Jekelish or someone close to the program could update...

Also, with the arrival of the new AC president Dr. Marjorie Hass I thought it would be interesting to look into the state of the football program at her most recent stop - Muhlenberg College in PA. The football program there has been at least a recent DIII success. {I'm sure that if this is relevant some of our posting partners can expand on their football past or present.} While this certainly does not tell us anything about her posture regarding athletic programs and budgets, we can know she has at least seen the impact a successful football program can have on a DIII campus.

An excerpt from the Muhlenburg football website says the following about the 2008 season: "Muhlenburg won its second consecutive Centennial Conference championship, swept the CC postseason awards and climbed to unprecedented heights in the national poll."
"Muhlenberg ended it's season with a 20-0 loss to Wesley in the first round of the NCAA Tournament".

I hope that this somehow translates into good fortune for Austin College and the SCAC in the near and long term.

As we near August (exciting, I know) I was thinking about the annual pre-season poll that is released. Does anyone know when the yearly Conference Media Day is when this is released?

Centennial Conference Football Media Day
« Reply #2088 on: July 09, 2009, 09:33:28 pm »
The Centennial Conference football preseason media day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5.  A victim of the economy, the event will not be a live, in-person gathering of coaches and media.  Rather, the Conference will hold a live chat with all nine coaches, utilizing "Cover It Live."  Some of you may be familiar with this technology, as the Conference used it during the spring for baseball and lacrosse preseason coaches chats.  Coaches will take questions from viewers and respond in real-time.  Look for more information to come on www.centennial.org

Commish:

Cool idea.  I'll add it to the Daily Dose post on cost containment.

Gettysburg

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited for the Bart-Dickinson game this year.  It's generally a good one (still bitter about the OT loss two years ago) and the O'Conner matchup against the Bart secondary will be a brilliant OOC matchup.  We've got returning DB's who both are very good (one, Woodard, a FR last year was excellent) and from the games I've seen the safety projected to step in is going to be strong too.  Our biggest D question marks will be at Will LB (have one kid coming back who was injured for a chunk of the year) and the defensive interior losing three of the best defensive players we've had this decade at ILB and DT.

Centennial Conference Media Day
« Reply #2094 on: August 04, 2009, 10:55:10 am »
The Centennial Conference's Football Media Day is slated for Wednesday with a live chat with the nine head coaches. We'll use live blogging software to have an interactive conversation with each Conference head coach. Each coach will answer questions from the moderator while also taking questions from you - the audience. Join the fun by sending in a question once the chat begins, in advance or via Twitter. Each 25-minute block will feature three schools:

> 11:30-11:55 - Moravian, Muhlenberg, Ursinus
> 11:55-12:20 - Johns Hopkins, Juniata, McDaniel
> 12:20-12:45 - Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg

Muledaddy, it is obvious that the CC coaches still have the repect for the Mules program and coaching staff after picking the Mules to finish second ( tied with Dickinson) in yesterday's preseaon meeting. I think they got it right with JHU on top and the Mules and Red Devils right behind. Should be a fun season.

  BT,

Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised at the tie for 2nd pick of the Mules, it having been a tad higher

than I would have expected. JHU and the Devils impress me at this early stage. Incidentally, both

Nolan and Rathbun, legit star players last year, are pleased to have joined the Mule coaching staff.

If the skills and determination of these 2 interns rub off on the players, anything can happen. The

rest of the coaches in Mike Donnelly's barn  are real stubborn....about winning...who knows what the season holds?
