I watched Saskatchewan defeat Edmonton in the CFL season opener on ESPN on Saturday. It brought back memories of Justin Beaver at Rough Rider's training camp in June of 2008 when I travelled to Regina to produce Web and radio stories on Justin's attempt to land a regular season roster spot with the Rough Riders...

Nice blog...Justin was one of the toughest backs I have witness in some years.

UW-Whitewater place kicker Eric Kindler enters his senior season as a preseason All-American needing 21 field goals in 2013 to catch Jeff Schebler’s all-time record of 75 career field goals.

The senior from Germantown is not only an elite college football kicker but he is also an elite fistball player. Fistball is a fast and serious sport played in Europe, Brazil and Japan, with a small but dedicated following in the Unites States. The biggest hotspot is in Kindler’s hometown of Germantown.

Oh, thank goodness.

For Gary Douglas and the KOOL 106.5 Warhawk broadcast team, getting those darn speakers someplace other than 10 feet above their broadcast location is news directly from heaven.  Perkins Stadium P.A. announcer Irv Madsen's voice has been heard more than Gary's on the UWW game broadcasts.  Its been giving me a headache!!!

It has been a physical and emotional past 13 months for me.

I was diagnosed to have Stage 3 colon cancer on May 28, 2012 and my surgery was conducted four days later at the Fort Atkinson Hospital. I was told that the survival rate for colon cancer was 70%. I knew that I was in for the "battle" of my life. I focused on staying positive and taking the battle "a day at a time."

Its hard to believe but football is right around the corner.  The WFCA South All-Star teams check in at UW-Whitewater for a week of practice in advance of the D1-D3 and D4-D7 All-Star games to be played at UW-Oshkosh’s Titan Stadium on Saturday, July 20th.

Meanwhile UW-Whitewater's preseason practice is less than 45 days away!

I published a story on the topic this afternoon on my Voices Eye On Football Blog..

Your reflections on your battle/journey that last 13 months is a true inspiration.  For those of us who saw you at games, including many on the road could see both the physical and mental fatigue, yet you persevered and it is great to have you back and inspiring Warhawk fans into the next season.

WarhawkDad... Thanks for the words! Its going to feel great to be "all in" for me this year covering Warhawk football. That wasn't the case last year.

I guess I've done a lot of posting here on the board over the past couple of weeks. If you, or anyone else who is reading this thinks that maybe I've gone overboard let me know. No problem if you're rough on me!!

No problem here, Voice.  Besides I don't think that there is any limit to how many posts a person can make in any given time.  Given your circumstances over the past year I think we can cut you some slack.  For some of us this is the only way we have to let you know that we stand behind you, find inspiration in your experience and hope for your recovery.

Wait a hold it, there's no limit on posting?  In that case...
