McDonald is starting to put together his coaching cabinet.  So far I can't say I don't mind any of the additions.  We'll see if their theories are picked up by the players and success can transfer over to the playing fields.

Kyle Rooker looks like he's about halfway through putting together his coaching staff at NPU. He's retained Gary Butler as DC, and Gary will keep his position specialty as LB coach as well. He's added Tyus Alcorn as WR coach; Alcorn had that same job at Trine. Another one of his hires has a D3 background as well, newly-minted QB coach Adam Foren, who held the same job at Wilmington and is a Hope grad. The new STC and secondary coach is Christian Dukes, who had been the secondary coach at D2 Tiffin and is a former CB for Toledo.

Kyle appears to still be in the process of hiring an OC and likely an OL coach as well, and he'll have a couple of new GAs next season, too.

Wendy McManus has been named the new AD at Elmhurst.   Hopefully her regime will help to be a positive influence on Jays athletics.

Haven't seen this all in one place, but since the Landlord has set up next season's schedules on the site, here are the non-conference opponents that CCIW teams will face in their various and sundry matchups next year.  These are the openers for each team, and depending on when they start, everyone is idle either the week of September 7 or the Week of September 14.

Sept 6
Hope at Millikin

Sept 7
Carroll at Lakeland
Carthage at UW-Oshkosh
Coe at Augustana
North Central at Christopher Newport
North Park at Anderson
Wash U at Chicago
Wheaton at Monmouth

Sept 14
Aurora at Elmhurst
Illinois Wesleyan at UW-Lacrosse

The Titans announced their 2019 captains yesterday (all are seniors)...

https://twitter.com/IWUTitanFball/status/1121817373701484544

* Jack Healy (WR)
* Ryan Swift (LB)
* Bryce Dooley (RB)
* Trevor Koepke (DB)
* Brandon Bauer (QB)

IWU has shared the league title the last two seasons and, I think, has a great chance to contend again.  The Titans have a lot of talent returning.

The exoneration never gets the attention of the arrest or charges being filed. Sad for the damage done to the reputations of these young men:
Quote
Davis did express disappointment that the charges against Pettway generated more headlines than Friday's verdict.

"When you have someone who makes up a story, the stain happens immediately," he said. "When the dismissal happens much later after the fact, it's very hard for the person accused to get their reputation back to the same place. That's a real shame, because it's not supposed to be that way, but in reality that's how it is.

"This has been a long investigation, and a large majority of the allegations were false."

Did you read the whole story, hazzbeen? Here's the fourth paragraph, in case you skimmed over it:

Quote
Three other former Wheaton players who were charged with nine felonies Kyler Kregal, Noah Spielman and Samuel TeBos pleaded guilty last year to Class A misdemeanor battery. A fourth, James Cooksey, pleaded guilty last year to Class A misdemeanor attempted unlawful restraint.

They were overcharged in light of what they actually did to Charles Nagy that night, since overcharging is typical in cases like this in order to create room for plea bargaining. But in the end Kregel, Spielman, TeBos, and Cooksey pled guilty to criminal offenses. They were not exonerated. By their own consent they now have criminal records, and they're likely to keep them -- it's difficult to get a Class A misdemeanor conviction expunged or sealed in Illinois.

The state's attorney's office and Judge Telander recognized that Ben Pettway was the least culpable of the indicted players and treated him as such, and Pettway's lawyer has a good point that it's a shame that Pettway's virtual exoneration doesn't erase the stain of his arrest in the public mind. But his reputation should not be viewed in the same light as those of his four former teammates. They will go through life with criminal records. He won't.

Interesting perspectives. I noted:
Quote
"Ben has no convictions on his record, which is very important that the public knows that and that this will be expunged from his record. He has maintained his innocence throughout this case, and ultimately the state came to see it for what it was, which was a prank among teammates, and then the alleged victim in the case made up injuries that were just not true."
Made up injuries is a big deal to me.

That is the assertion of the defense attorney, anyway.

Which is a response to the assertion of injury from the alleged victim's attorney.

Me, too. But as both Pat and USee noted, at the moment the two assertions -- actual injury or made-up injury -- are just two lawyers playing word tennis.
