He also knows his football history, seeing as how Augustana alumnus Ken Anderson's NFL heyday with the Cincinnati Bengals is four decades old now.

Sean Payton played at Naperville Central where his head coach was longtime Wheaton Head Coach JR Bishop. JR and Sean stayed in close contact for many years and after JR retired from Wheaton Payton would host him at training camp and several games a year. Sean knows about the CCIW.

Yeah, it's just too bad that he can't remember what it's called. ;)

I think a head coach in the NFL naming half the teams in the league at a press conference after a practice off the top of his head is better than knowing the name of the league.

I don't disagree that the man has a good memory. I'm simply saying that, in light of his good memory, it's puzzling that he can name half of the schools in the league and yet can't remember the league's name, especially since he was raised in a CCIW town, has a personal coaching connection to the league, and can even identify the league's most famous football alumnus.

It's not puzzling at all since his connection to the CCIW and all of those facts likely came through his relationship with JR Bishop. It's a good bet JR told him all those things and that's just what he remembers.

Wow, really? This is what you've chosen to keep harping on about?

I think it's puzzling. Whether you do or not is your own business.

Dear Colleagues,

I’m writing to let you know that, after a long and storied career at Elmhurst College, Paul Krohn has decided to retire from his role as director of intercollegiate athletics. After many failed attempts to get Paul to stay on with our Advancement team, Paul has decided to pursue other opportunities at this time. We will miss Paul very much because of the key role he has played in the lives of our student-athletes over the past 26 years as a leader and mentor. And, as a community, we all will greatly miss his friendship, warmth and collegiality.

Paul spent his first 11 years at Elmhurst as the head football coach, earning the CCIW’s Co-Coach of the Year Award after the 2003 season. He took over the role of director of athletics in 2004, and under his direction the department enjoyed growth and success on the field. Just a few accomplishments include
•   expansion from 16 varsity sports to 20 with the addition of men’s soccer, women’s bowling and men’s and women’s lacrosse;
•   an increase in the number of student-athletes at Elmhurst, to more than 450;
•   teams that advanced to the NCAA Championship Tournaments 14 times;
•   student-athletes who have garnered All-America accolades, National Player of the Year Awards and individual national championships; and
•   student-athletes who have achieved great success in the classroom, taking home 24 prestigious Academic All-American Awards since the 2003-04 season.
Over the next several days, we’ll have a few occasions to celebrate Paul and what he has meant to the College. Details regarding an on-campus celebration will come out Wednesday, June 5th.  The Bluejay Backers are hosting an Open House Celebration on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at the Community Bank of Elmhurst (George F. Hammersmith, Sr. Community Room).  Until then, I hope you’ll join me in wishing Paul the very best in his next adventure.

Warm Regards,
Dr. Phil Riordan
Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students

IDK what Coach/AD Krohn’s specific accomplishments were vs the expectations that the Elmhurst Administration had of him over the years. But each time I spoke with him over the last many years, I always found him to be welcoming, personable, knowledgeable, and a great ambassador for the Elmhurst College athletic community.

And on the flip side, SIDs on message boards complain about fans begging them for copies of stats. Go figure.
