The Transfer played a few downs yesterday but was not the guy who made things hard for the Linfield D yesterday---That QB has been on the Roster since 2006 and had a lot of playing time 2 years ago. .  However, the offense that UPS employed yesterday was much different than what they've shown in the rest of the games because their starting QB (K. Williams) did not play.  He is the running QB and for whatever reason, the coaches have stuck with a run heavy offense all season despite the results.  Yesterday, the passing QB played the whole game (except for a play or two where he was banged up).  UPS threw more passes yesterday than they have in all the other games combined.  I suspect that the Cats weren't expecting this but that certainly doesn't explain their difficulty adjusting.  I'm hoping that we can flush this one and get the D back on track for PLU and the play-offs.
Haven't had a chance to get online for a couple of days. UPS has run that option offense for a number of years, which has made Crace the backup since he is not much of a runner. He has played well when he has gotten the chance, but my guess is that we'll be back in the option this week against the Bearcats. The transfer from Sac State has been on the bench for most of the year. UPS does have several young receivers (especially Zuhl, #2, a freshman) that make running a balanced offense next year a necessity.

I don't know enough about the D3 powers to know who runs the short passing game like UPS used, but my guess is that Linfield will be ready for it when the playoffs roll around as it is needed. I am not an apologist for the Cats - I just think Crace is as good at that offense as anyone in the conference.

Linfield's offense was outstanding. The Loggers started two freshman d-backs, and Boehme went after them all game. The o-line gave him great protection except for one breakdown in the first half. One of the UPS players I know said that the tackles were studs, better than UWW's linemen.

UPS in young, and I hope that means we'll be better in the next couple of years. Good luck to the Cats - stay focused on PLU - they have a good passing game, too!

I know how hyper the LINFIELD posters are during a bye week so I'm wondering what activities you have planned.
Besides surfing, of course.

Where do huntin' and fishin' seasons stand?

Family and home activities would probably have to go first. I imagine.

It seems like around this time of year there is a thread where people are discussing the various playoff match-ups, does anybody know where that is? Especially for the West Region.

Thanks!

I'll chime in with some advice: whatever you do, don't read the comments.  People on OregonLive are certifiably insane.

As a history major, I'd really like to debate Prof. Rampton.  I wonder if she would find a 2:1 male-to-female ratio a problem? Roll Eyes

Here are approximate enrollments and gender breakdowns for the NWC, partly from their websites and partly from other sources.  And they might not all be 2009 figures.  They don't seem to prove much football-wise.  If anybody from any of the schools wants to correct their numbers, have at it.

With football

PLU- Enrollment 3581 F63% M37%
WU- Enrollment 1903 F54% M46%
LC- Enrollment 1677 F57% M43%
L&C-Enrollment 1921 F61% M39%
Whit- Enrollment 2394 F55% M45%
UPS- Enrollment 2537 F58% M42%
Menlo- Enrollment 614 F62% M38%

Without football

George Fox- Enrollment 1620 F65% M34%
Whitman- Enrollment 1450 F56% M44%
Pacific- Enrollment 1323 F66% M34%

Is it safe to assume Linfield will host Round I on the 21st?
(I need to make travel plans, now!)

Thanks,

Pacific sophomore Brandi Palmer says she has a writing class that's all female students.

"We're mostly feminists, and everyone agrees about things," she says. "Having more boys would encourage a clash of ideas."

This is my favorite quote from the above article. What a disaster it would it be if college classes had people with differing IDEAS! The horror! The horror!
Sexist little snot.

Pacific gets huge points for trying to keep their school coed and diverse. It's reassuring that the administration realizes the connection that football creates with the players and alums. Maybe the others will figure it out.

It's a one-way street cocos.  I will never forget the screaming and crying on TV that women at Mills College, Oakland,CA, did when some guy sued to get in.  The move to all single gender classes in public schools is afoot. My mind cannot grasp the idea because it is the antithesis of what I interpreted the feminist movement and subsequent Title IX to be about. Willamette is to be congratulated for their kicker in hindsight.

And now back to football...only 44 weeks until the 2010 season!

D O.C.

You've seen all of those SCIAC Teams in person...who do you think will come out on top? Isn't it kind of up in the air between Oxy, Redlands and Cal Lutheran? Which team do you think is the best of that bunch?
