I forgot this one note. Crace came in against UWW in the fourth (admittedly against their second team) and drove the offense down the field for a td, I think 6 of 6 passing, to...Zuhl. So the same attack worked against the Warhawks. Against PLU he came in late and threw a td pass to...well, you see the pattern. Crace is a senior, unfortunately.

Welcome to the board. I understand your son plays for UPS. Is that true? If so, congratulations and all the best to him and your family. I've enjoyed your posts. I hope you're able to get to the games to watch him play.

Hey redandpurple-
Thanks. He does, he is a soph and plays football and baseball for the Loggers. He is having a nice football year (would be nicer if we were not 0-7) One of the great things about the NWC is that I can fly to Portland and Seattle (from Boise) for about a hundred bucks round trip and watch him play. I never had a clue about D3 'til we went to visit colleges. What a great opportunity to get a terrific education and play sports in college.
Do you have a son at Linfield? I admire that program and its tradition.
All the best to you.

If you happen to see a college-age kid wearing a red Willamette hoodie, white cap, and carrying a notepad on Saturday, say hello. Should be a great game.
Random fact of the day: After talking with my parents earlier today, I found out I went to kindergarten with Spencer Crace.

Hey Bearcat Press -
Will do. It should not be hard to pick you out of the crowd!
Wonder who will start for the Loggers at qb? My money is on #4. I hope Spencer gets some pt though.
Here's a Boise connection with Willamette. Capital High plays tomorrow night in the state quarters. Their coach is Todd Simis, a Bearcat alum and a fine model for high school kids. Capital is 8-0 and on a roll, but lost in this round last year. This year I think they bring the title back for the Capital Eagles. Capital runs the option/fly sweep. Wonder where Coach Simis got that offense?
See you Saturday.

Our son played at Linfield from 2002 (redshirt year) through 2006. He played guard on the offensive line. That's him, in the video, placed to the left of my posts. My wife and I were the same way. Never heard of D3 football until he started being recruited out of high school (We live in Arizona). We made a few college visits, including the NWC, and he decided to attend Linfield. We went to as many games as we could. We were able to attend to every game, home and away, during his senior year. Glad to hear you're able to get to your son's games and you have a few more years left. Enjoy it! As Dick Vitale would say: "It's Awesome Baby!"

See you Saturday.
Linfield has a couple of connections with Boise State, I'm rooting for the Broncos to land a BCS game. First, the Wildcats defeated BSU in 1968, in the Broncos first game after moving up from junior college football. Second, all conference WR Nick Forsey, played for Linfield in the late '90s, and his brother, Brock, was a standout RB for BSU.

GAME DAY #9
#24 Willamette Bearcats vs. Puget Sound Loggers
WHEN: 1:00 p.m. Saturday
WHERE: Baker Stadium; Tacoma, Washington
RECORDS: #24 Willamette 6-2, 3-1 NWC; Puget Sound 0-7, 0-4 NWC
ON THE AIR: Webcast at
www.willamette.edu/athletics
BRIEFLY: Fresh off a bye week, hanging on the edge of D3football.com’s top 25 and drifting in and out of the NCAA playoff picture, Willamette faces nothing short of a must win – and win convincingly – scenario this Saturday against last-place Puget Sound.
“We have to win if we want to stay relevant, both in our conference and nationally,” Head Coach Mark Speckman said.
Despite non-conference opponent Cal Lutheran upsetting Occidental last weekend, the Bearcats still need significant help to be considered for one of six “Pool C” at-large playoff bids. But first Willamette needs to handle the Loggers, who, with losses to two top-10 teams already this season, might be the nation’s best winless team.
“You’re watching film of them and you scratch your head wondering why they haven’t won,” Speckman said. “Though obviously, we hope that continues.”
Puget Sound has burned Willamette in the past, including a 13-7 defeat in 2007 where Baker Stadium’s wet, slippery natural surface proved as effective as the Loggers in bringing down Bearcat ball carriers. Speckman described the facility as “a challenge,” but chalked up Willamette’s past struggles there more to Puget Sound’s play than to the surface.
UPS, behind standout quarterback Kavin Williams, usually runs a rush-oriented option offense, but with Williams injured, backup Spencer Crace aired it out last weekend against #5 Linfield for 328 yards passing and four touchdowns. Whatever offense the Loggers come out with, Speckman insists the Bearcats will be ready – and that they are aware of the stakes.
“It’s easy to play when you’re in front; it’s hard to play from behind,” Speckman said. “We’re behind right now, but we’ve handled adversity all year. We’ll finish strong.”

First things first.
As for the NWC All conf. team. I am with 11. It should be the best 11 on each side of the ball. I agree with the other post. This is not T-ball where everybody gets a trophy. Keep the presure on them 11.
Now for Anderson or Woo. I made my vote. It is the player that made there team better and more competitive. And like 11 said when you have to put 7or8 men in the box every play to take one player out of the equation then he is the man.
Buy week. The next game couldn't come any sooner. But one thing needs to happen next week. The Salty D needs to put last week behind them and show the world who they are and what they are made of. It better be a shutout and they will have to carry people off the field. Leave No Doudt. The Cats are here to stay.
See everybody on Nov. 21. Should be up on the friday before and lets party Saturday AM.
Go Cats

Hey redand purple-
Looks like your son was a fine player for the Cats. Mine plays on the d-line for UPS, though he is listed as a linebacker. I've been to all but the Linfield, Claremont, and UWW games this season, and think that next year I'll attend all of the games. There's a certain purity to D3 sports that I like. True "student athletes", many of whom might have been missed by colleges at a higher level, but work just as hard as kids at those levels.
Anyway, I am headed up tomorrow to watch UPS-Willamette. I hope it's a competiutive game. Bearcat Press' article gives the Loggers a lot of credit, but they are still winless. Hope springs eternal. Go Loggers!

Idalogger,
Welcome to the board hope you stick with it. It would be good to have posters from all the schools. Especially with a board so dominated by the Linfield guys, no offense intended.
Lutes need a good showing this weekend to prepare for the big upset on the 14th. I'll start pulling for the Cats on the 15th.

At least we have you guys posting, idalogger and speedybigboy. We also have d-train from PLU and sometimes wyd posts, but I don't know what happened to eclute and some of the other PLU guys. I don't think we ever have had any L&C guys, which is too bad. The Menlo posters drift in and out.
You add a lot to the board, idalogger.
Another good article, BCP.
Tomorrow will be boring, but next week is LUTE WEEK!

Idalogger,
I think Oxy and UPS begin a two year home/away agreement next year. Welcome to D3, left coast style.

It is storming big time here. The UPS field will be a mud bog before the end of the 1st quarter. Big time wind, rain blowing sideways and it is chilly boys. I have been to a couple of these in the past where the Cats had to struggle in the ankle deep mud to get going.
Could be an interesting game
The crack up is that UPS has a new turf practice field right next to their stadium !!
go figure
