Del State is FCS and there is no transition year for a player transitioning from FCS to D2 or D3.

I think the question is the other way. From D3 to FCS. And yes, there is a year to sit out, right? So if Wesley closed their athletic department (and I hope they don't!), any student trying to make Del State's team would, by rule have to sit out a year. Though they could certainly apply for an exception based on Wesley's shutting down.

I am sure that if they closed Wesley athletics that those guys would be free to catch on with whomever without a waiting period.

Maybe I am mis-speaking.  If Del State takes over Wesley, and eliminates football at Wesley, then any Wesley player can't simply become a DSU player.  Doesn't any player moving from D3 to FCS need to sit out one season?

The NCAA has waived the sit out season for schools that fold their programs I believe.  I do not know if that is true for d3 to d1.

I can't really tell but does anyone know if Pine Manor in Boston is having sports this fall?  Boston College bought them out but worded it in a strange way where students that were at Pine Manor can stay to finish out their degrees in two years and after that can apply to get into Boston College (if they don't finish in the two years).  Kind of different than what other schools have done here in MA with these mergers (Umass Amherst took over Mt. Ida and the Mt. Ida students were simply done, and Boston University bought out Wheelock but kept the Wheelock students and let them get a degree from Boston University)

Pine Manor hasn't said much on this regard but we took our cue from the Capital Athletic Conference news release, which said Pine Manor would be a member of the conference for one year as the CAC absorbed the ACAA.

Obviously, this also depends on whether they have fall sports -- to be honest, I could see them doing what Johnson & Wales-Denver did, and shut down athletics immediately before the school closure.

Wesley's top 10 players would get time at DSU, given the current state of the DSU football program. They might opt to go to school for free at DSU vs. pay to go to DSU-Wesley, if that is an option.

Penn State has a ton of satellite campuses, but none of them, obviously, are proximate to each other and certainly nowhere near the mothership in Happy Valley...................the opposite of the soon-to-be situation in Dover.

This is going to be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Moving up to D2 from D3 requires a year waiting period, doesn't it?

The way that things are going...................we very well might just get that one year waiting period..............for everybody!! ;)

I'm talking about it the other way. Having inside knowledge of the Delaware State program (close friend's son is a RB from a local powerhouse in PA...........North Penn High School) relative to the Wesley program, I believe that AT LEAST 10 Wesley players could see some time, and a few others could make the DSU roster. This would be a D3 to FCS transition.........and any waiting period might just be satisfied by everybody having a "one year waiting period" per se. Let's hope not........I need my pigskin!! :)

I am sure that if they closed Wesley athletics that those guys would be free to catch on with whomever without a waiting period.

I picture Jaws (DelVal, Stevenson, Salisbury, Widener, etc.) getting ready to swallow up some Wolverines. ;)

In released media reports, Wesley athletics will continue to exist through the 2020-21 school year. What it looks like past that is yet to be said.

Just for fun.....and hopefully other folks will jump in and provide even more fun "Stuff".
I live in Newport News, Va and grew up in the next town over - Hampton. This area is called the Virginia Peninsula which also consists of the cities of Poquoson, Williamsburg and the County of York. I looked up information on the 13 high schools on The Peninsula that had NFL Players. One school is now defunct (and absorbed on to the CNU Campus). Of these schools I counted 44 NFL players, 1 NFL Coach (Mike Tomlin) and the current NFLPA Director of Communications as well as 3 players in the Pro Football HOF. And 1 player in the professional league AAFC which had some teams merge into the NFL around 1950 (Colts, Browns, 49ers)

My older brother and sister went to Hampton High - 10 NFL players and 2 in the HOF (Dwight Stephenson and Chris Hanburger). My siblings attended at the same time as Dwight Stephenson
I went to Bethel High - 6 NFL Players. I graduated with  Shaun Gayle who has a SB ring  with the 85 Bears - and the NFLPA guy I mentioned is from Bethel. Also the same HS as Allen Iverson.
My wife and son went to Menchville High - 3 NFL players. One graduated with my wife - Al Toon. Menchville is better known for baseball. Around 2011 I think, MHS was the #1 ranked baseball team in the nation.
My Daughter went to Warwick High - Home of Michael Vick and Henry Jordan (HOF). She graduated with current NFL player BW Webb. I keep up with him through her FB page.

The other HOF player not listed above is Lawrence Taylor who played in Williamsburg.

Just some fun reading I hope while the world out there is going crazy! I hope to read similar stories from other folks!
Cheers!
Dave

Was/is the 4:15pm press conference being broadcasted by a entity that can be found on the internet?

No, but WDELís Sean Greene has been live tweeting it.

Sounds like Wesley is remain itís own separate entity for the 20-21 academic calendar year. After that is TBD.
