Gary really didnít want to play the game anywhere but Collegeville. SJU turned down US Bank twice before they determined hosting the game could be mayhem and thereís not enough Allstate Insurance to cover all the possible problems.
Try this:

Turned down US Bank twice until the crazy insurance issues arose. Wink, wink.  Nudge, nudge.  Theres still enough of them monks around who know how to negotiate.

From the small world category: Had a youth wrestling tournament today for our son.  We're talking somewhere around 400 wrestlers.  We ended up with the son of one of my Johnnie teammates in our bracket!  Of course, those two ended up battling for first place, with mine winning 8-7.  Good times and nice to catch up with a guy I hadn't seen in darn near 20 years.

A tradition unrivaled...

So we can all agree that the Tommie/Johnnie rivalry is something special. There's been plenty of talk about who might become Tommie rivals in D1. However, there hasn't been as much talk about who the Johnnies' primary rival in the MIAC might be going forward. Bethel makes sense for football, but maybe not across a broader range of sports. Thoughts?

Good question, Rev, but I came here with another purpose so will return to your question.

Is there nothing this miracle nectar cannot do?  Beer Waste Helps Montana Town Save Money On Water Treatment

Quote
As America's craft beer industry continues to boom, the waste it generates can pose challenges for sewer systems. But if it's used in the right spot, in the right amount, it's potentially beneficial and can actually save wastewater treatment plants money...

For the last three years, Newfield or one of his employees has been dumping one bucket of spent barley from Triple Dog Brewing into the water rushing below every morning.

"The bacteria love it is what I've found, and it just disappears by the end," Newfield says.

REV

Interesting question to ponder...Bethel would be the obvious challenger not just for football as they have made strides in all sports and I would guess they will continue this path especially as now they are kind-of the big kid on the block as far as the metro is concerned. I would keep my eye on the Auggies though. I really like the hire of Darren Lamker and believe he will make some noise in the not so distant future. I'm guessing money is their biggest obstacle, which is a huge factor to overcome. The Gusties certainly have the resources and history/tradition to return to their glory days. Those are the only three schools I consider to have a chance to step up and potentially challenge the Jays athletically. The real question will be whether or not the Jays take their foot off the gas pedal and allow for a successful charge with no longer having the need to out-duel the Tommies.

As for the Tommies, it all depends on where they land. They are advertising for development/fund raising positions in the Athletic Department right now. With all of the sports committed to the Summit League (exceptions: Football, M & W Hockey), I will go out on a limb and say they will immediately go after NDSU as a target (although, I believe they'll be a punching bag for the first two years) As far as football goes, assuming they start in the Pioneer league, I would guess due to proximity and situation as far as Augustana is concerned, it will be Drake and Augustana. However don't be surprised to see them schedule NDSU and or SDSU within 5yrs because I am quite certain the Missouri Valley Conference is the fast track they are aiming for.

Who has speculated on whom the tommies may acquire as a rival?

There has been some discussion of it. For football, the closest Pioneer League opponent is Drake, which isn't very exciting but with family in Iowa and friends in Des Moines, I could make the best of that.
In other sports, I'm not sure who would end up as a rival

I surely don't recall any conversation on a future tommie rivalry...

Humble way for Duff to brag about his son.  As he SHOULD!  Do me a huge favor Duff and the first coach that "strongly suggests" your son cut weight please put him in a rare naked choke that educates him on the modern coaching philosophies.   ;D

Actually, that was a pretty cool story Duff. Although one of us would have asked for the outcome if you hadn't told us.  ;D
