Speaking of IWU centers, if someone would ship a 6-8, skilled 5-man to Bloomington before the 2017-18 season starts it would be much appreciated.

We'd also accept 6'11". ;)

(Preferably less than 60 years old and with eligibility remaining!)
6'9" or 6'10" would also work. Heck , a 6'5" stud like Victor Davis would do

No one seriously answered my question on the football boards unless John Kennedy really is buried at IWU's football stadium which I'm doubting so I'm asking you who knows all that is IWU.

What is the story behind the burning torch at the stadium?  Is it some sort of memorial?

Also while I'm at it do you think you could make a donation that would allow the university to install loudspeakers on the visitor's side?  BTW, I've submitted my notice under our early retirement notification program.  July 29, 2018 and I'm out of here.

Badger,

I saw your inquiry on the football board, but was waiting for one of our learned IWU posters/alums, who must know more details about it, to reply. Evidently, IWU has been lighting the torch by their stadium for many years before football games. One of their school traditions. Not sure if it's a designated memorial to anything specific or not. I found a little info about it on the IWU web site. Maybe you can find more. Hopefully one of the IWU posters (iwu 70, Mr. Ypsi, iwumichigander, Titan Q) can more fully answer your question.  ;)
Background on the "torch" -

which goes back to at least 1952 when Tommy was dressed more like a gladiator, came running onto the field before the game and lit the torch.
And, oh yes, the miscues are too lengthy and humorous to list here but it is true "Tommy" did once come close to blowing himself up along with players and cheerleaders.

Loud speakers on the visitors side - we will put that suggestion on the list of improvements (which is admittedly lengthy), for now, we just use "soft" speakers. ;D ::)

Well, chatsters, only about two months now and the basketball season will commence.  Looking forward to it.  Augustana surely #1 -- with another run for the national title.  Surely this is their best shot, their best year to go all the way.  CCIW teams, esp. NCC, will give them a good test all year.

Still looking for that 6' 8" or 6'9" stud at the 5 for IWU this season.  :(

Yeah.  IMHO the CCIW as a whole is going to have a quality year.  Some teams really good and others good.  Anyone know when most rosters usually get posted?

As for Augustana, I think most of us would agree that they are going to be big, deep and talented, but I also think this may be one of the more athletic teams they may have had in a while and all of that makes them dangerous.  NCC will be excellent, as well as Carthage.  IWU is IWU, North Park has Mr. everything, Wheatons young talent is a year older,  I could go on but I won't. Let's just get that non conference win loss pct to where it needs to be.

This has been discussed in the Top 25 boards already... I don't think Augustana is "surely" #1. I think Whitman will take it for a lot reasons. Feel free to look at the Top 25 board (if you haven't already) to see all the arguments.

Thanks, D-Mac, I'll have a look.  Don't go to that page often.

Looking forward to the season . . . maybe NCCn (all healthy again) tops Augie this year?   Always an interesting run through the tough conference season.

Yes, IWU is IWU.  I'm sure Ron Rose and company will have a good team ready to compete.  Brady Rose and Colin Bonnet better than last year, so a very guard-centered team.

You should visit more often. Plenty of good discussions about teams outside of the CCIW and Central. ;)

OK, will do.  But I'm mostly an infrequent lurker now, not so active on these Boards.  Thanks for the tip.

1. Babson (31-2)

Babson #1 after graduating 3 championship game starters?  ???

North Central's Alex Sorenson was named to the S & S Preseason All-American First Team (They only name 2 teams)
NCC's Connor Raridon, Wheaton's Aston Francis, and Augie's Chrishawn Orange were all named Honorable Mention.

I couldn't find the actual pre-season AA list anywhere on line. I got the above info from the school's web sites. I can't imagine NPU's Jordan Robinson not being on the team but, as of now, there is nothing about it on the NPU web site as there is on the other schools' sites.

I think we know the answer to the question "not sure how much they follow D 3 Hoops" by simply looking at their top ten.

Ron Rose and the Titans have landed transfer Alex O’Neill, a 6-8/230 C from D2 St. Cloud St, and formerly a preferred walk-on at D1 Creighton.  O’Neill will have 3 years of athletic eligibility at IWU.

I know IWU's staff thought they had a pretty good chance at O'Neill out of H.S. (2015), and then after he left Creighton (2016).  I’m sure they’re very happy to finally have him on the roster.  Out of HS O’Neill had scholarship offers from Lewis, Quincy, St. Joseph’s, Cedarville, and some other D2s.

My biggest question about the 2017-18 Titans is the 5 spot, with Trevor Seibring gone and no clear replacement returning.  O’Neill should have a chance to compete for the starting job.

There’s that 6’8” center you asked for, Q!
