I am not sure if he played football at Alfred University in the 30's, (Pep may be able to verify) but Dr Norm Schachter refereed the first Super Bowl and two others (V and X) plus the first Monday Night Game and a number of conference championship games. Clearly he was at the top of said profession.

Actually, Pep believes Schachter played basketball at AU. He may have also played football but I remember he was a basketball player and was superintendent of the Los Angeles City Schools.

But if Schachter didn't play football at Alfred, you could certainly go with Bill Schuster, who was a wide receiver at AU during the Sam Sanders era, and who has also worked the Super Bowl as an NFL official. He operates an insurance agency in Livonia, appropriately named Umpire Insurance Agency.

Greg Connors now operates Connors & Ferris Law Firm in Rochester and serves as chair of the AU Board of Trustees. A Hornell native, he was a defensive back at AU:

Ol' Alex Yunevich, who is on the ballot (again) for the College Football Hall of Fame that was recently released to members of the National Football Foundation, took great pride in his players' life accomplishments....doctors, lawyers, etc.

On Saxon Warriors!

On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

John Fish, Bowdoin 1982, member of the Polar Bears Football team until suffering a neck injury,  is co-founder and CEO of Suffolk Construction, a $ 3.2 Billion construction firm based in Massachusetts and past Chair of Boston College BOT, past member of Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and current member of Bowdoin BOT. I am sure the NESCAC has quite a few alumni that would make this list of former D3 football players that moved on to successful careers( joining  George Steinbrenner and Bill Bellycheck)

Schacter's Alfred HOF bio lists both football and basketball, I say he qualifies.

Agreed, don't want to fill the whole list with NESCAC guys  ;)

Impressive list .....I still think Chester A. Arthur would have been one hell of a back up lineman🤣

Jim Davis (founder of New Balance and worth about 6+ billion dollars) played football at Middlebury.  In fact, I'm sure if you looked hard enough, you would find a bunch of Nescac power alum who would make this list.

Um, somewhere along the line you've lost Kenny Anderson.  He is (and likely will remain) the only "D3" guy to be named NFL MVP! ::)

Steve Spinelli, founder of Jiffy Lube and current Babson President, played at McDaniel College. Not for nothing, but this region has forgotten one if it’s own in the NFL, Ali Marpet.

I mean, the list is kinda apples and oranges.  Tough to rank Ronald Regan vs London Fletcher.  Just two completely different career paths.  And now we have the founder of Jiffy Lube in there?  Has he done more than the athletic director for the Florida Gators?  I think a better list might be the most obsure/random d3 football alumni.  I think the founder of Jiffy Lube goes to number one on that list, right ahead of Chester A. Arthur (whom I still will argue played football at Union, the internets just don’t go back that far)

Just a victim of my typing error, he will be immediately replaced!

Certainly have not forgotten about Ali, I am just not sure if he qualifies as "most successful" in his field yet.  I fully expect Ali to make this list in the near future, both as a football player and businessman.
