At my HS the top wrestlers also participated in CC in the spring to keep up their conditioning.

North Central XC season preview:

For the first time in 25 years, the North Central men’s cross country program failed to place in the top four in the country at the national meet in 2005. The 2006 season is also the first time in a long time that the team has no returning All-Americans.

A bleak outlook? Not at all.

“It will be a very, very exciting year because we’ve got potential and youth and work ethic,” Carius said. “I think what we need is experience and to blend it into a team mind set. Then we’ll see where we end up.” ..... click on title .....

Am I correct in assuming that #2 Wheaton is Wheaton (MA), since NCC has won the CCIW for like 3000 straight years?  Same thing with #22 Wheaton on the women's - Mass.?

Good point, but I doubt it.  Wheaton IL is building and building.  Wheaton MA has not had any tradition in the distances.  On the racing oval they're all sprints and jumps.

North Central had a down year in 2005.  This could be their neighbors' chance to win it the CCIW.

The Calvin men had a strong showing today at the first Calvin invitational, with a score of 18 against #5 Oshkosh, Aquinas, Ohio Northern, Hope, Dennison, Elmhurst, Otterbein, and Baldwin Wallace. Looks like they could be stronger this year than they were last.

The women (#14) also finished first with a score of 32, compared to 88 for second-place Oshkosh, ranked #11 nationally by the USTFCCCA. Nice to see three sophomores place in the top 5 for the knights.

That's a mighty nice, tight pack of finishers.  On Calvin's team, 2:17 separated their first and 12th finishers.

It will be very interesting to see how the top 5 compare from these two schools. Too bad they don't meet before NCAAs. Any chance of convincing the Thunder to make the 200.001 mile drive up to GR for the Calvin Invitational next year?
