Oswego 41, Cortland 30 at the half

Lakers in the period finish with a flourish to take charge. Krecko a BIG difference. Taking away RDragon driving game, and Corts are not matching Oswego outside shooting

Oswego has really come on strong in the 2nd half of the conference season. They could be dangerous in the NCAA tournament (as a Pool C or a Pool A). Cortland needs another comeback! Hope it's an interesting 2nd half.

I agree!  Oswego really turned things around. Probably Leone's best coaching job at Oswego!  I'd be surprised if they didn't go far ( depending on today's results)!

Ya gotta believe!! SUNYAC Champions, 20-7

J. Morales sinks 3-pointer falling back from the right flank a few steps behind the arc against two charging Lakers to win it. Bucket comes at 0.4 on the Pburgh scoreboard. Morales takes rather wild pass from B. Estarfaa who was driving left down the lane and finding considerable traffic.  Winner follows  flurry of trey exchanges.  Trailing 67-60 with 4:30 left after 9-0 Oswego run,  Cortland's C. Joseph first of three straight 3-pointers gives his team 68-67 lead at 2:28. B. Sortino FTs for Oswego puts Lakers up. Joseph trey at 1:26 makes it 71-71. TJ Hefele from the right side lands a triple for a 74-71 Cortland advantage at 0:30. Laker K. Covley immediately responds at 0:24 to set up the climax. Sortino able to get off a final desperation bid -- don't know if if would have been allowed ........

Trailing by 11 at half, Dragons finally seize 52-51 lead on Estarfaa trey at 12:23. Resilient Oswego and Sortino pull switcheroo and Covley connects for 'three'. Joseph hoop and another Estarfaa trey lifts Dragons to the fore at 60-58. K. Tyson putback on OSt's next foray knots it. Oswego up at 7:10 to begin that 9-0 spurt.

The sophomore 6-6 Joseph named the tourney's mvp. Has 24 points(9x11fg, 6x8 3s) 6 rebs; Hefele 14 pts(5x11fg, 4x8 3s) and 7 assts; Estarfaa 12 in 40 minutes; JP Reagan 12 pts and 6 rebs in 32' and with 4 fouls and exiting at 6:45 before quick return when Lakers took momentum. Sortino  with 27 OSt markers(9x22fg, 3x12 3s) 8 assts in 40 minutes; Covley 19 pts(7x14fg, 5x9 3s); Tyson 12 pts in 39'; M. Candelario 6 rebs. A. Rawa scoreless (0x5fg) in 34'.  M. Krecko a force early but MIA thereafter with 6 rebs

Cortland from the field 27x57, Oswego 27x63. Corts make hay from the arc with a school-record 18 makes in 35 attempts to Lakers' 12x33. FTing has Corts 5x7, Oswego 8x10. OSt with 39-29 board edge, 11 offensive

Dragons win eight of their last nine, beating Brockport twice and Oswego twice in their last four outings. Sweep series vs. Lakers.

Picking against Cortland was common practice all season. And talk about a coaching job ....TSpan the Man!

It seems like every time I see Cortland they're making a comeback! A resilient bunch that definitely deserve to be the champions. I hope the prognosticators are right on the Pool C board because Oswego deserves a shot IMO in the tournament. Sortino, for one, has been awesome.

Ya gotta believe!!

Senior TJ Hefele Sophomore James Morales sinks a 3-pointer falling back from the right flank against two charging Lakers to win it. Bucket comes at 0.4 on the Pburgh scoreboard. Hefele Morales takes a rather wild pass from B. Estarfaa who was driving left down the lane and finding considerable traffic. Hefele Morales winner follows  flurry of trey exchanges.  Trailing 67-60 with 4:30 left after 9-0 Oswego run,  Cortland's C. The sophomore Joseph named the tourney's mvp. Has 24 points, Hefele 14, Estarfaa 12. Sortino  with 27 OSt markers

Fixed it for you jdex. ;D I had a front row seat and it was nothing but net.  Young Morales likely hits the biggest shot of his career, so far. Great pass by Blair Estarfaa to find the open man with time running out and covered well by Oswego defenders.

Wow ....thanks Magic!  Believe the call on the screen was Hefele ......... but you were there! Or call could (probably was) Morales ......anyway, quite the finish  ...

Morales with 6 pts on 2x3 3s in 18'.  In Friday's semi win key figure S. Martinez with 4x5 3s in the comeback second half. He had precisely two 3s for the season beforehand

SUNYAC All- Tournament Team.

MVP Carrell Joseph    Cortland State    Well deserved he hit huge shots both days and was 6x8 from downtown in today's game.

Brian Sortino            Oswego State   Would have been MVP if the Lakers had won the Title.

Kyle Covely              Oswego State

Kyle Richardson        Plattsburgh State

Blair Estarfaa           Cortland State

JP Reagan               Cortland State

Outstanding play from all of the athletes.  Three games this weekend and they all were barnburners. Disappointments for sure but the level of play was superb and I hope that we can get 3 teams to the Dance. I think that Plattsburgh, Cortland and Oswego all possess potential to advance to the Sweet 16.

Coach Spanbauer said it best, as I was talking with him shortly after the game ended, "How fitting that the SUNYAC season should end on a 3 pointer with virtually no time on the clock".    Nuff said.  8-)

Yeah, Morales all the way, I was surprised he was taking the shot but Blair didn't have a lot of choices with time almost gone. Morales was open and Blair got it to him with a flourish. They don't even give Blair an assist on the play. ???

Denison winning the NCAC drops everyone down a peg. Hopefully things don't keep Plinko-ing down into the 0 bucket.

Are we sure about this?  It would seem Rochester and Plattsburgh are going to keep Oswego away from the table for awhile.  Not a good day for the bubble...

Those who have "done the math" and rated the Pool C contenders (see the Pool C board under Multi-regional topics) suggest that Oswego is still in pretty good shape to this point. I think there would have to be a few more upsets to really put them in trouble.

I do take pause however given Plattsburgh's situation in previous year.

The Lakers were #5 in the east on Wednesday.  Is one win over Plattsburgh worth that much?
