Choice 4 is still the best choice by a mile.
"That seems silly and pointless..." - Hoops Fan

The first and still most accurate description of the D3 Championship BeltTM thread.

Ill go with number 4 also, and to reinforce what Oshdude said there would be no point of conferences then. And to reinforce what BigPoppa said, gotta like the underdog.

I agree it is very tough to win the ASC 8 team conference tourney, but thats what the coaches have decided. They could of said lets do a 4 team tournament. Also it is too bad that a conference with 16 teams gets only 1 A bid, but at the same time they could split up into 2 conferences and get an another autobid.

Choice 3 wont happen unless more teams become D3 and would cost more money.

The system is what it is, no matter the system people will have gripes.

Would it be better to do:

Choice 1.
Eliminate all AQ and make 54 open bids in one pool. Split up into 8 regions

Choice 2
Keep Pool A AQ and have open bids for the remaining ones

Choice 3
Eliminate all Conference Tourneys(save money) and have 8 8 team regions
for 64 teams. Each seeded by ranking in region. Of course #9 and after will
still complain. No AQ.

Choice 4
Keep it the way it is. Win your games on the field that allow for you to play another day.

Despite all the chatter on this subject Choice 4 is likely to stay with no  changes in the near future regardless of how us fans feel about it.....I dont think coaches, players or NCAA will be listen to us.

IF Changes occur it will be  to save money due to the current and near future economic issues.

BUT this is fun to debate this subject.

Add choice 5.  Eliminate all Pool B bids and allow conferences to be smaller to get an automatic bid (minimum number 6?).  The independents can join those in Pool C.

Here is an example of what I am talking about.

After reading Daily Dose on the Regional rankings last week, you have the following teams already discussed as front runners for C bids.

Otterbein 19-14
Marietta 23-11 (but not even discussing the team above both of them in their conference with a better overall record John Carrol 23-8???? no sense)

Augustana 22-13
IWU           21-11

These make no sense. these are your choices for C bids??? If you are going to consider these, you HAVE to consider Linfield at 28-12, Texas Lutheran at 30-12, even Lynchburg at 25-14. How can you be saying Millsaps is on the verge when these ridiculous teams from the Central Region are being considered?? i do not see how any of these teams get in over Texas Lutheran at 30-12 other than the mere fact a team is called "Marietta" and have won in past year.

Marietta has played one of the toughest schedules in the country...that's why.  They have beaten (on the road) Ut-Tyler once and Heidleberg TWICE.  That's probably why they are in the discussion.

Oh and two things.....(1) John Carroll is not ahead of Marietta in the league standings.  They have the same league record at 11-5, and split their head to head matchups AT John Carroll, and  (2) they play in the Mideast, not the Central.

Neither of these teams will be a Pool C choice this year... they have both imploded the past two weeks.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.
