The NCAC is participating in the first of two "NCAC Weekends" at Allegheny this weekend.  All nine squads are in attendance, with each playing twice each of the two days of the event.  This event, as well as a second go-around at Earlham in October, will constitute half of the conference standings.  On Day One, usual suspects Wittenberg and Hiram won both of their matches, as did Wooster and Oberlin.  Wittenberg (7-3) and Wooster (11-2) will square off this afternoon, as will Hiram (7-5) and Oberlin (7-6), along with seven other matches.  This must be a real treat for local volleyball fans; I wish I could be there.

Hiram and Wittenberg showed the NCAC who's the boss(es) today as each cruised to twin 3-0 victories to finish the NCAC Weekend 4-0.  Wittenberg, which didn't lose a game at the meet, dropped Wooster and Kenyon this afternoon, while Hiram dumped the Scots and Oberlin.  The Tigers and Terriers start the conference season atop the standings at 4-0, one game ahead of host Allegheny, whose three-set victories today over Kenyon and OWU leave them at 3-1.  Wooster and Oberlin followed up impressive 2-0 Saturdays with bleak 0-2 Sundays and join Denison (2-0 today) in fourth at 2-2.  Earlham won once, over OWU, while the Bishops and Kenyon came away with 0-4 records from the event.

Hope swept Calvin for the MIAA lead in front of 1,425 fans yesterday. Man, just over 600 at Oshkosh vs. Whitewater was noteworthy for us, but 1,425? What a rivalry. Like usual, what great support over in Michigan. And it's not like admission is free either. Very cool.

(Per Heidelberg stats, the home squad's overall attack percentage was higher than Ohio Northern's in the last 2 games).

Should Capital and Heidelberg win their next in-conference match-ups-that would set up a 10/17 showdown between the 2 squads at Capital for the OAC lead.

Per stats:  Albion--Goralski and Watler 10 kills each: Albion's attack PCT over last 3 games was the key here.

Wittenberg and Hiram continue to dominate the NCAC, and when the two squads met this past Saturday, the Tigers came out on top in five sets, 25-27, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12.  Those two sets won by the Terriers were the first an NCAC opponent has taken from the Tigers in nearly two years (10/24/07, vs. Earlham), but Witt held on to record their 58th straight conference victory.  That streak is now up to 60 with wins at Oberlin and Denison.  Wittenberg (14-3, 10-0) has a chance to break their own conference record winning streak of 63 matches this weekend at the second of two "Power Weekend" events, this one to be held at Earlham.  Standing squarely in the way is a rematch with second place Hiram (14-8, 7-1), as the two are scheduled to face off Saturday afternoon in Richmond.
