As strange as it is Wesley is indeed in the South. Their FB team has been south region champs 4 out of the last 6 years.
Yes, the Capital Athletic Conference is in the South Region. In fact, Delaware is south of the Mason-Dixon Line for you historical buffs.

As much as it pains me to say, I have to agree that Shenandoah is hands down to South Region favorite right now. Until someone proves they can knock them off, in a tournament, then the title is in Winchester until it is taken away. SU plays at a whole different level in a "tournament" setting. That isn't saying they don't play at a high level or intensity during the regular season, because they 100% do. However, playing them in a tournament setting is tough.

As usual, the South Region will be fun to watch.

correction parker, SU is not the hands down favorite fro the South Region.......CNU just shut up Methodist, yes that's right, 0 runs in 2 games. Some may say im bias and that's fine but i've seen this team for 5 years now and and this line up top to bottom is more solid than i have ever seen. Yes we have had some amazing hitters at CNU over the years, but this lineup is outstanding. And yes, i know people are going to say that SU is ranked higher...personally I dont care. The #1 team in the nation has played 1 game, the #4, 11, 15, and 16 haven't even played yet. Its hard to judge teams that are 15-17 games in from a team that hasn't stepped on the field yet. SU is good, but to say they are the favorite is a huuuuuuge stretch. lets see what the SU fans have to say about that one.

No need to respond to a statement like that...we'll see who's who  come April 2-3 (That is if you guys are still in the hunt by then)! Better lace em up tight...pretty sure SU will be ready! But if I were to comment on anything about your entire rant about CNU and SU....i'm pretty sure SU's made back to back appearances in the D3 world series and based on the comparison of this years stats and the previous two years, SU is putting up almost the exact same numbers on the mound (if not better) AND they're offensive numbers have drastically improved (go look for yourself, archived stats are on SU's site). Guess I could make the same statement about this years SU team being better than any in the previous 5 years as well, huh... :o
But, it is only a month into the season...there are plenty of games to play...dont get ahead of yourself here CNU13  ;)

Just a lil glimpse into the reasons behind my post...enjoy

thru first 11 games
Team Averages:

Offensive Stats:
10-11: .399 BA, 43 doubles, 6 triples, 17 HRs, 117 RBIs, Runs/game= 12.63
09-10: .321 BA, 19 doubles, 6 triples, 6 HRs, 85 RBIs, Runs/game= 9.36
08-09: .368 BA, 31 doubles, 7 triples, 10 HRs, 100 RBIs, Runs/game= 11.54

Pitching
10-11: 11-0, 3.26 ERA, .266 BA against, 42 runs against(33 earned)
09-10: 8-3, 4.27 ERA, .........?, 59 runs against(44 earned)
08-09: 10-1, 2.39 ERA, .......?, 38 runs against(22 earned)

I know the guys will be ready for that series. SU is a good team. They have to be to make the back to back WS appearances. And alot of thoes guys are tough outs. I have just 2 things to say about this. 1, i was just saying that SU wasnt the "hands down" regional favorite right now. and 2,) (not knocking you guys, just asking) how cuz you guys smashed ncw 15-0 when VS pitched and then won 20-10 when your number 2 threw? does it thin out past him or was it just a bad game for your other pitcher(s)?

I have to back my CNU boys on this one. As CNU13 pointed out, SU is a good ball club. However, CNU is as hot as I've ever seen them, and play SU down in Newport News this year. I wasn't part of the World Series days with CNU, but I'm guessing they looked similar to what we are seeing now. With the way CNU is playing, I'd pick them to beat anyone, including my Baltimore Orioles; not that that's much of an accomplishment.

My one question, that I'm hoping one of you SU fans can answer, is why when SU is up so big do the back-ups not get more playing time? In a 15-0 win over NCWC, there were 2 pinch hit appearances. Two. Really? You can't tell me some of those kids, who work hard each and every day, wouldn't love the chance to get an AB during an "in-conference" game. In a 22-7 win over Ferrum, again 2 pinch hitters came in. My complaint is that, if you're going to have so many guys on the roster, at least let them get a chance to swing it during blow-outs.

I'll give that to CNU. You can say whatever you want, but the coaching staff lets the non-everyday guys get some AB's. In a 14-4 win over BC this year, there were 5 pinch hitters that got in the game.

As of the bottom of the 4th, CNU is up 13-2 over Albertus Magnus.

I never said CNU wasn't going to be a formidable foe...I was simply pointing out that one could say the same about SU's team being the best they've had in the last five years also. Thats all and as for the pinch hitting deal, no idea. Couldnt help ya out there...

Updated from original post - tracking as games are starting to get more frequent. The season is still young but started the spreadsheet to track per game stats. The tables shows the per game differences between 2011 and 2010. You do have to remember that the season is very young and teams have not played a lot of games but started this so it will be easier to track as the season goes on. At the point of doing this;
Averett 15 games
CNU 11 games
Ferrum 10 games
Greensboro 9 games
Methodist 14 games
NCWC 13 games
Shenandoah 9 games
So still a very small sampling.
A negative number means a decrease in 2011 versus 2010. Positive number means an increase. The only place you probably donít want a positive is Strike outs!

If CNU starts to reduce strikeouts and put the ball in play more watch out. Also Shenandoah had a great season last year so the stats can be a little mis-leading. Like hits per game is down 1 from 2010 to 2011 ( 13.67 vs 12.67) and runs are up ( 10.83 vs 11.56) so SU is getting the job done!

Yes SU is putting up big numbers as you can see about this is as of Sunday night. I do update it from time to time and SU is on track to break last years records, which where huge but before you get to carried away so is CNU.

This is what makes the USA South so great, not many people can truely have a good old fashion trash talking session and both be right!
Lets go USA South.

The three best teams in the South region are Shenandoah, Christopher Newport and Birmingham Southern.  Good news for most schools is that BSC is not eligible for the playoff but they would be my favorite to win it all.

Millsaps had put together a nice season as have Mary Washington.  There are also a lot of in-region wins down in the GSAC.

I am looking forward to both the MW-Salisbury and Shen-CNU series

I think Wesley might give Salisbury some tough games this year. Good line up and a solid staff.
