Norwich beat Plattsburgh 3-2 in OT, in a game in which Norwich had the upper hand most of the time.
I agree that Norwich certainly had the upper hand for a majority of the game but a hot goaltender in Sydney Aveson almost stole the show for Plattsburgh.
Impressive performance by her to keep Norwich's powerful offense at bay for most of the night after they were peppering her with shots from all over the place.
Great play by two freshmen help Norwich tie the game up late in the third. First, Vanessa Champagne got bumped up to the PP unit and she delivers with a great sticklift in the high slot to help set up Tyne Gove's five-hole goal.
Plattsburgh was a much bigger team than Norwich but they struggled at times to keep up with the faster Cadets on the wider ice surface at Kreitzberg. However, once Plattsburgh did posses the puck, their transition offense was impressive and so was their cycling in the offensive zone. On a smaller ice surface, Plattsburgh probably has a good shot at winning the game.
We'll get to see a rematch with just those conditions on Feb. 8 when Norwich travels to Plattsburgh's Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena for the second end of the home and home.
