Castleton 113 - Springfield 132
« on: November 15, 2011, 09:37:58 pm »

I hate to start a new thread for this, but I couldn't find the place where it might fit.

Castleton lost to Springfield tonight (opening night) 113-132.  Castleton took 102 shots, 63 of them from behind the arc.  They also committed 31 fouls (Springfield shot 46 FTs).

Is Castleton adopting some Grinnell-esque offense here?

Nobody played more than 22 minutes and Springfield shot above 60%.

The numbers don't quite look like a GC boxscore (very few steals), but there's something going on here.  This is a very fast-paced offense.  Perhaps this is more of a VMI modification?

Buffalo State put a whole bunch of points on D'Youville, 141-93. Maybe the quasi-Grinnell is a trend. (I haven't seen a Buffalo State box yet...)

They didn't shoot too many threes.  It seems as though D'Youville is just terrible and Buff State didn't let up.

It's gotta be something... a terrible team doesn't score 93...  Sounds like they may have just played minimal defense and ran like mad on offense.

Looks like it was press, press, press for Buffalo State and not the mini-Grinnell.

D'Youville's starting point guard played thirty minutes and didn't take a shot from the field.

Also that of the 95 rebounds, 50 were offensive! Seems like an high-octane game.

In the Springfiled\Castleton game, I would say it was an incredible lack of D.

Also from Springfield's point of view, Their senior center Ryan Coburn did not play.  He is one the the nation's top shot blockers.

Looks like Castleton may be attempting a hybrid Grinnell system.

Yeah, the pace of the game looks crazy when you look at the box...

They don't have the hockey-type line changes, but the time stamp difference between turnovers/steals and layups/dunks is quick enough to show that they're occurring in the back-court/midcourt most of the time.

Yeah, that's system ball.  Full line changes every 45-65 seconds.
