Collegiate Baseball has 5 teams from the SCIAC conference listed

I think Buena Vista is a bit high at #8. I see them as a team in the 20s. Much of the Collegiate Baseball pre-season polls are recycled and very close to the final polls in June. They lost their #1 arm Probasco, their shortstop Blum, their catcher Kloewer and their closer Dupic. That is a lot of important defensive holes to fill between catcher and shortstop not too mention the hit the pitching staff is taking to graduation.

If a top 30 ranking for 2012 doesn't include Aurora, it's going in my garbage can.

Agree. I was looking over Aurora's stuff yesterday and they are going to be VERY solid this season. AU and Concordia should produce quite a battle in the NathCon.

West Region has 4 teams in top 30 in Collegiate Baseball preseason poll and 5 other teams listed in the poll after the top 30.

# 2 Chapman(37-13) will play #3 Kean(42-11), #6 Linfield(33-11),#15 Redlands(30-13). Chapman also plays Cal Lu(25-15), George Fox(23-13), Pomona Pitzer(27-12), La Verne(25-14), and Trinity, TX(34-13) which are also listed in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll. A real killer schedule for 2012.

Big Poppa thank you for stepping out on a limb and posting you top 25. I really like the fact that we are finally getting to talk baseball, it has been too long. I am a USA South fan so I do have some thoughts on your top 10 but will explain a little before going totally USA South. I just looked at stats for 2011 and what is returning, I do not know a lot of these teams well enough to understand their bench strength or ability to reload so this is a simple mathematical view. As for teams form the USA South Shenandoah has always done a good job of grooming talent and preparing them to succeed so think you are right there. Would not surprise me to see them move into this by the end of the season. Also might want to keep an eye on Methodist as they have a good core of players and have built a nice pitching staff. As for our new member (starting next year) always watch Piedmont.

1.   Marietta Agree until someone knocks them off
2.   Chapman Agree to a point only really losing one top pitcher
3.   UW-Whitewater Not sure here lost 3 of top 5 bats, over half of their HRs and their top 2 pitchers
4.   UW Stevens Point Not sure lost couple of position players and top 3 pitchers
5.   Heilelberg nope lost 4 out 5 top 5 bats half HRS, 2 of top 5 pitchers and their closer
6.   Linfield questionable lost 2 out top 5 bats, replacing 5 position players and their closer
7.   Kean ok lost 3 out top 5 bats, 4 position players and 1 top pitcher
8.   Wheaton ok maybe should be 4 or 5, Lost 2 of top 5 bats, 4 position players but only really lost 1 pitcher and they have a very good returning staff.
9.   CNU they should be 3 or 4 Lost one top bat and position player (Vernon who hit .327 but replaced with the player he platooned with last year who is hitting .347) lost one pitcher (ERA 2.28) but his replacement started 8 games last year with an ERA of 2.29. CNU has a very solid starting core for this year and their setup/closer combo is one of the best. And none of them are seniors this year so CNU pitching is good for a while.
10.   Courtland feel they should be higher maybe 7 or 8

I tend to base some of my predictions on teams that have proven track-records of replacing what is lost, even if those happen to be star players or pitchers. Like I said, a lot of what I posted is not going to be popular (as it rarely is early in the season) but I usually have a solid feel for what is coming up in most programs and adjust accordingly.

What is your top 25 (or top 10)? I am often hammered for my early out-of-the-box predictions and rarley do others make the predictions. Just hoping to drum up a little interest and hot-stove chatter as I watch the snow fly (errr... watch the sun beat down on a 50 degree winter day in MN... crazy).

Big Poppa,
Solid way to do it, I just don't know the teams well enough. I will put together my top 10 and post. And here in the south we are going from 42 one day to 72 the next.

Ok here you go - My Top 10 - This is based on a look at stats as I do not know the teams near as well as you and the other members of this board. I will also say 2 and 3 can be swapped back and forth - but I am a USA South guy!

1. Marietta
2. Christopher Newport
3. Chapman
4. Kean
5. Wheaton
6. UW - Stevens Point
7. Courtland
8. Linfield
9. Heidelberg
10. Alvernia

For the record this is my guess at it and I can't wait to see how far off I am!

I am curious what changed in your opinion of Linfield.  BP had them at #6 and you called him out saying "questionable" then put them at #8.

Linfield had a solid young pitching staff and while losing their main power they have a good amount of seasoned young players. So just felt they had a good core in place with the changes being minimal. This is a guess on my part so could have as many holes in it as Swiss cheese!

Chapman has made the Regionals every year except 2002 since 1997. Also they have made the trip to the Championship Round 10 times since 1997. BUT they must replace 3 key players. Starting catcher and Team and Regional MVP Kordich. #2 RHP Sigman who has the career wins record at Chapman starting all 4 years and a All Region selection and 3 year starter 2B Hadzinsky who led the team in hitting, stolen bases, All Region selection also.

Chapman also plays it's toughest schedule ever and can only get a Pool C bid in their transition year in the SCIAC conference. They play top 25 teams: Linfield, Kean and Redlands(Thats 8 games) and other top teams from the NWC, SCIAC and SCAC conferences.
