Cool...did your son have an enjoyable experience? The season seems so short to me; in Jrs my son played 70 games/year. This will be less than half of that. I guess it's better schooling-wise. I've heard the games are broadcast over the internet and are well-done. Is that what you've discovered as well?

He did.  He plays for DWC so last year was a transition from Club to DIII.  Fortunately the coach was able to get us 21 DIII games this season.  Minimum is 18.  With all the conference shakeups and the DII scold having to go DI or DIII, hopefully they can get into a conference.

I didn't know of any changes to things. I didn't ever hear of D2 hockey, just D1 and D3. So was D2, such as it was, eliminated?

The DII tournament and national championship was discontinued in the late 90's because there weren't enough schools. Most moved up to DI. There are still six DII schools that play in the Northeast-10. Aside from their conference tournament, they have no postseason to play for. They play eachother, and then fill up the rest of their schedule against DIII schools. Those games don't count as far as the DIII tournament selection committee is concerned. They're basically exhibition games. Two of the DII schools, St. A's and St. Mike's, also play regular season games as members of the DIII ECAC East conference, but as DII schools they're ineligible from participating in the ECAC East Tournament or the DIII National Tournament.

My son liked his practice pace and such. Told me he's low man on the totem pole because he's a freshman. Unfamiliar territory for sure but it's great. Finally on the ice with the team and the coach!

How'd your kid like the day?

My son said it went well. They brought in some new players and let s few from last season go.  He said the talent is a better this season.

Welcome aboard, guys.  Glad to see some new faces here and some good discussion going. On our end, conference previews have started to roll out with the WIAC and ECACW men already released. More are on the way...

Hi all! I'm going to attempt to be a little more cognizant of D3 hockey this year. I hope it's a great season and we get some discussion on here! I will definitely be looking forward to the conference previews.

I know hockey is a "less popular sport" but not necessarily in the geography that D3 in other sports dominate. I wonder what one could do to get more traffic to this board. I am so far removed that I'm unsure. I like the format of the boards here, but if there's no one around what can we do?

There are other boards with more topics and traffic...I think that's what's going on.

Yeah, there are other boards that have been around longer but tend to be the same six people talking in every discussion whether they know anything about it or not. Traffic is down on message boards, period. I think a lot of people have migrated to twitter and such these days -- especially for something as niche as hockey which doesn't have the heft of hoops or football.

As someone that posts to this and the "other forum", I hope I'm not one of the six you are talking about....
