D3 in the MLB Draft:
« on: June 10, 2016, 09:47:56 am »
Who is gonna be the first one off the board?
Who is on the possible draft list?
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

I don't think any of the Trinity guys will be the first D3's off the board, but I know that Wolf, Gray, Moore and McEachern have been scouted. In one of the press conferences, Coach Scannell talked about Moore being good enough to be a middle round pick. Wolf certainly has the offensive talent and size..and bat speed. Gray, a 6'4" lefty who is around 90mph and with upside also seems to be projectable.
Each has proven they can play at very high levels (with wood) or pitch based their Summer and All Star performances in  the NECBL and Northwoods.
Seems unlikely any D3 would get 4 players drafted, though.

Most D3 picks are pitchers and I think overall there was a drop off this year from past years. (maybe this is just my impression). The three at the CWS that should get some attention would be
Tanner Wilt from LaRoch,  Lamando from Cortland, and Weeg from Emory. (of course no one got to see the best pitching performance at the CWS from Lamando/Weeg) With the shorter draft a lot of D3's end up being unsigned draftees.

Didn't see this thread but I thought it was basically a foregone conclusion that these would be the first two.

Don't ask me why Bachar was WW's #2. Overreliance on non-representative stats like W-L and ERA, I guess. Think they would have had a real chance to get through the bracket if he had been going #1, though if they uncorked a 5 error game in game 2 they could in game 1, too, I suppose.

And Ridings, well, a 6 foot 8 strikeout artist basically speaks for itself.

Four might be unlikely, but we had FIVE back in 1999!!!!  ;D

It appears there were more than just those three at the CWS that "got some attention" with WIAC players Bachar, Kohlwey, and Jones going in the 5th, 21st, and 26th round respectively...

Surprised that took that long. Padres seem to have dug deep looking for value.
