Summer Collegiate Leagues and D3 Players
« on: July 30, 2017, 10:51:07 am »
Hi — new here, so forgive the post if there is a tread that covers this already.

Would love to get a discussion going here around D3 players and summer leagues.  What top-shelf leagues consider D3 players — specifically pitchers.  What are people’s experiences/suggestions?  What percentage of players rely on their coach vs making calls and sending notes themselves?  When should a player start for the summer of 2018?  Obviously — there are leagues like the Cape, that are completely driven by coaches.  But, would a player that is motivated and “on it” — have a shot on his own finding a home someplace like Northwoods or NECBL?

Advice, suggestions, contacts welcome.

With out a coaches help I believe Northwoods or the NECBL would be a stretch.
I think a league like the NYCBL might be a fit in that situation. Plenty of d3 players mixed in with the D1 and D2 players in that league.
D3 players should have started looking as soon as they hit campus, and talked to their coach. Things are much easier if the coach has some hooks. This was something my son always asked during recruiting.
Let us know how things are going.

Mentioned this elsewhere,  but son will be playing in the Great Lakes league next summer, which is pretty good considering he is currently a freshman.

Good team, great facilities. And I really enjoyed it when my son played for the Settlers.
