2020 Season - COVID-19
« on: March 12, 2020, 02:05:45 pm »
Has anyone been keeping a running tally to the number of DIII programs who have canceled or suspended their seasons due to the national/global health concerns?

Unconfirmed list: SCIAC, NESCAC, OAC

I have seen schools like Hood who have delayed through Easter  but by the time I finish this posting, everything will have changed.

Getting ahead of myself a bit here, but does this now mean seniors are free to sign contracts and join spring trainings once baseball resumes?

Secondly, how does this affect the draft? How are scouts able to see players if there are no games prior to the draft? Could this set up an unprecedented number of open tryouts across the nation for kids to be seen?

Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

I wondert the same thing regarding the draft.  So many D3 guys that get drafted do so in the late rounds after putting up great senior seasons numbers.  Those guys no longer have the opportunity to prove themselves in games.  Very interested to see what happens come June....

Since many seniors are not looking to be drafted, they might consider another season, just to extend their playong career (that is if they can afford the tuition).

Wearing my summer team hat, I see some seniors at all levels playing in the summer.
