Imagine what Kitchens would have been had he not been hurt and missed almost his entire senior year at Chapman.
He missed a estimated 11 appearances and 95 innings over a 2 year period due to injuries. Despite this he still holds many game, season and career records at Chapman along with being near the top in several other categories. He has recovered from his injuries and was pitching last year in the Frontier League. Hopefully he will get a chance next year to pitch in affliated minor league team.
This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

I think you have to seriously consider both Brian Youchak (OF or 2B) and Todd Emr (3B). Their stats are unparalleled and Youchak led two teams to Wisconsin from a school that had not been there in quite awhile:

Career Stats:

Youchak:

BA: .461
Hits: 259
HR: 30
2B: 53
OBPS: 1.230

Emr:

BA: .445
Hits: 225
HR: 15
2B: 53

Youchak has the stats one wants in an outfielder, good average and power.  Emr's home runs are less than one would want in a third baseman.

Shawn Gilblair has to be considered on this list.

Three-time first-team All-American

Two-time National Player of the Year

Career #'s

Avg- .373, 236 hits, 152 runs, 47 doubles, 29 home runs, 194 RBI

W-L 28-7, 2.31ERA, 256.2IP, 38BB, 281K

Rick Vaughn

Only an A-A in his senior year in 2004, but Jabe Bergeron from Williams College had a monster career.  His freshman year numbers are a little fuzzy b/c the record keeping in '01 wasn't perfect, but they would only go up from here.

.437, 255 hits, 45 2B's, 43 HR's, 174 Runs, and 191 RBI in 153 games played.

Jeff Natale out of Trinity College could be another NESCAC hitter.

Not saying he should be considered, but definitely belongs on this list. Led all of DIII last year with 19.

BigPoppa

Neese was solid, but it was one big year that he had. He will up against many guys that had that type of season 2-3 years in a row.

Shawn had an injury a good part of 2008 resulting in +/-8  missed starts.  He was 1-3, (W/L), that year.  However, he led the team in hitting (.403) and hit 12 HRs

Dwight Wildman, (2001-2004), should be considered for this list as well.  He had huge offensive numbers his jr/sr years and had some clutch HRs in 2004 CWS

I need to throw in a couple of Fighting Scots of Wooster into the mix on the offensive side.
Luke Ullman had a monster year in "05" winning DIII player of the year and 1st team AA.

The truely worthy player is Jake Frank. His career stats are outstanding. Three time AA, 1st team in "03"  & "05", 3rd team in "04".

Gms   ABS   HITS   B AVE.   HRS    RBI    Total Bases    Slugging Pct.
182    642   265     .413      35     224         455               .709

One can make a case that the Miller, Ullman, Frank infield is one of the best ever.

Jim,
Thanks for pointing out my omssion of Matt Miller. His career stats stand up to anyone. You are correct in stating this could have been the most outstanding infield of all time in DIII.

It's hard to pick your favorite super hero when Captain America,Spiderman, and Superman are in the line-up at the same time.

Mr. Ypsi

Four half-hearted nominees from IWU (all might be candidates for CCIW all-decade, but I doubt any are national candidates).

Three pitchers:

Steve Schilsky (2000-02) averaged almost 12 Ks per 9 innings and had a batting average against of .195 and an era of 2.48, all IWU records.

Cory Lipinski (2003-05) had some phenomenal stats as both a pitcher and a hitter; he probably made an error skipping his senior year for a short-lived pro career.

Injuries kept Matt Aronson from a great overall career, but 2007 was a gem - until the CCIW tourney, he had a ridiculous 0.31 era (TWO earned runs all season), and still finished at 0.85.

The final nominee just might have a chance (he was a second baseman, after all), but I include Ricky Angel more because the mere mention of his name still gives Big Poppa the heebie-jeebies! :D  From 2005-08, he batted .382 (on base, .457; slugging % .603), drove in 189 runs (in 178 games), scored 157; had 410 total bases, was hit by pitchers 36 times (ouch!), and had 56 doubles and 30 HRs.  And in Big Poppa's nightmares, over half of this production was against Carthage! :o ;D

I'd think Angel has the best chance of any IWU guys to make it to the all-decade team of the 2000s... and please stop mentioning he who shall not be named:)

Gramps

I know that Heidelberg Is just a new entrant to the national scene, but I would hope that their accomplishments over the last 3 or 4 seasons won't be ignored by the national gurus.  The long time traditional powers have many fans on these blogs, and thus are able to come up with many recommendations for the All-Decade Team.  Heidelberg has several current and former players who deserve a look at their records or at the least, a mention of their accomplishments.  I hate to mention any names as I have only been associated with "The Berg" for the past three seasons, but I am sure that if their record book was scanned by more knowledgeable blogsters that a few names would pop up. For sure, Coach Palm would be eligible for some kind of mention as he has accomplished many 1sts for the Student Prince program during the past decade.
