Quote from: Greek Tragedy on Yesterday at 10:32:57 PMI haven't seen Phil Dotson play since the beginning of the year. Is he hurt?

Announcers on Friday's game said he was expected back soon (last played on the 3rd against Millsaps).

Centre's weak schedule finally showed up as the Colonels fell at Oglethorpe, 90-66, in an ugly game that saw the two teams combine for 67 free throws, 44 by the home team.  The Stormy Petrels outrebounded their opponents by a 45-29 mark which saw them have more offensive boards (14) than the Colonels had defensive (12).  The combination of supremacy on the boards and at the line was complemented by a 57%-34% shooting advantage.

Trinity took two on the road at Rhodes and Millsaps to remain the only team undefeated in SAA play (5-0) and will face 14-2/4-1 Centre in San Antonio on Saturday.  Oglethorpe, winners of two at home to improve to 11-5/3-2, will hit the road for games at Rhodes and Millsaps.

An interesting second full week of SAA play:

Friday, Jan 16:
  • Southwestern 73 @Millsaps 83
  • Trinity 73 @Rhodes 79 - Lynx hit 17 of 38 threes (44.7%)
  • Centre 62 @Berry 63
  • Sewanee 93 @Oglethorpe 85

Sunday, Jan 18:
  • Southwestern 56 @Rhodes 89
  • Sewanee 82 @Berry 72
  • Trinity 73 @Millsaps 68 - first home loss for the Majors (6-1)
  • Centre 91 @Oglethorpe 94 [OT]

Rhodes had a brilliant week, upsetting Trinity on Friday behind a surge from beyond the arc, the sixth time this season they hit at least 40% of their threes.  Both attempts and makes were the second-most this season behind an 18 of 40 performance in a 109-42 blowout of Principia.  Sewanee went 2-0 as well, but did it on the road.

This week's games - Friday:
  • Centre @Southwestern
  • Berry @Millsaps
  • Oglethorpe @Rhodes
  • Sewanee @Trinity

Saturday:
  • Centre @Trinity

Sunday:
  • Berry @Rhodes
  • Sewanee @Southwestern
  • Oglethorpe @Millsaps

At the end of this week, Rhodes will have played 13 games at home and only 5 away.  That trend continues the following week (15h/5a) before the Lynx will finally hit the road for 5 of their last 7.

Hell yeah. Assume this will be first time the schools have matched up in FB?

According to the announcement this will be the first time they have met (in football).

Univ of the Ozarks records since the 2020 season, in which they were 7-4-1:  9-8-1, 10-5-5, 7-10, 6-10-3, 3-13-2.

Thanks - that worked!

Proposal 2026-5, the one to give crappy 12+ team conferences a second auto bid, went down in flames 83-377-1.
2026-2, which was basically bringing redshirting back to D3, also failed 172-273-6.

Awesome matchup between two great schools. Hopefully we see more of this throughout the division.

Also, general question. When is final top 25 coming out for football? Or have I missed it?

Came out on the 5th:  https://d3football.com/top25/2025/final

9. Berry
16. Trinity

(and apropos of yesterday's post:  3. Johns Hopkins)

If your twelve-team conference isn't good enough to earn a Pool C, it sure as hell doesn't deserve a second auto bid.

Checking in on Ava Limonciello, still acting HC - her Nichols squad went 7-2 in non-conference play, 2-4 so far in conference for a 9-6 record.  Not bad, kid - keep up the good work.

It's been an interesting start for the SAA.  Centre has come flying out of the gates at 13-1 and shares the early conference lead at 3-0 with Trinity, who had the exact opposite experience starting 0-5 (admittedly against the stiffest competition faced by anyone in the conference**).  Trinity has gone 7-2 since as some of the younger players have started to find their footing in college ball, and with the return of C/F Natalie Greenwood from injury in the sixth game.  Two other schools, Millsaps and Southwestern, started out hot (10-2, 9-3 respectively) but find themselves tied with everyone else at 1-2 after the first two weekends of play.  Oglethorpe also started out 9-3 before an 0-2 weekend in Texas.  Sewanee, Berry, and Rhodes round out the conference with records of 8-6, 7-7, and 5-9 respectively.

If you look at NPI, Centre naturally leads at 55, followed by Southwestern (109), Oglethorpe (115), Trinity (121), Millsaps (134), Berry (172), Sewanee (240), and Rhodes (248).  It's highly unlikely the conference can secure a pool C bid (d3datacast gives only Centre any chance, and that 6.8%) given those values.

Massey Ratings, which more significantly factor MOV and H2H results, has Trinity ranked 68th, Centre 85th, Southwestern 132, Oglethorpe 140, Berry 156, Millsaps 159, Rhodes 232, and Sewanee 274.

This week will see Southwestern and Trinity visit Millsaps and Rhodes, while Centre and Sewanee head to Berry and Oglethorpe.

** - according to D3DataCast, Trinity has faced the 40th most difficult schedule in all of D3 so far this season; Centre the 301st.  Other schools rank between 148 (Berry) and 319 (Millsaps).  These numbers will tend to converge now that the schools are only facing each other.

Quote from: scottiedoug on January 06, 2026, 11:55:21 AMMaryville was in a tournament at Emory which was a Flo event, so I could not watch any games without buying way more access than I wanted. I am sure Emory can afford not to be part of this.

Except Emory is in the UAA and the UAA has already signed on with Flo.

That's what scottiedoug was saying - like basically all the UAA schools, Emory doesn't need the pittance this brings in ("can afford not to be part of this"), what with their $11 BILLION endowment.
