Quote from: jknezek on Yesterday at 08:47:42 PMI also said this was a good year if anyone was going to knock off RMC. I still don't think W&L is better than they have been the last few years. Which is fine. They've been good and competitive and finishing in the top 2 or 3 of the ODAC.

I don't think RMC is as good as they've been the last few years. That's no knock on RMC, they've been consistently excellent. This year? A step or two below. Enough for W&L and H-SC and maybe Shenandoah to join the conversation.

Agree about RMC and the other teams mentioned. I thought, going into this season, that RMC had a lot more question marks than the past four or five. Not that the answers couldn't be found, but so far there are still some unanswered questions.

A good game in Lexington today. Congrats to the Generals. Seems that Ty Collins made all the right decisions on option plays -- whether to keep the ball himself, hand it off, or pitch it. Jackets defense wasn't up to the task. RMC had an efficient drive with under a minute left in the first half to come away with a field goal and a 10-6 halftime lead. Then, trailing 20-17 with over three minutes left they had a chance to do the same thing and get a TD to take the lead or FG to tie, but it was not to be.

I thought jknezek's pessimism about W&L's chances might have been off. I felt similarly about RMC leading up to the game. It's no consolation that my pessimism was more accurate.

I caught the second half of H-SC at Roanoke. Both offenses looked good. But what does that say about their defenses? Tigers prevailed 39-33.

Bridgewater came from behind to beat Guilford 19-14. I get the feeling that BC's offense is still struggling.

Shenandoah beat Averett 38-20.

General Division III issues / Re: Flo Sports
Yesterday at 12:49:02 PM
The "Favorites" feature on the Flo website seems to not be functioning. The favorites I have saved no longer exist and when I go to establish them again it is not possible to do so.

On the plus side, I'm seeing some decent content from Flo on FB and on X.

It is rumored, from the highest and most reliable source possible, that hopefan will be back on these boards in January.

General Division III issues / Re: Flo Sports

I was interested that Sweet Briar, a small women's college in Virginia that is in the ODAC, must not be part of the conference's contract with Flo as their online broadcast of yesterday's volleyball match with RMC did not go through the Flo platform. I suppose it makes sense, as they don't have football and also don't sponsor basketball.

^^^ As noted above, not the most well-played game by RMC, but an easy win nonetheless. My take of Bridgewater's offense is that they have a quarterback problem. Their starter, who played until late in the 4th quarter, is indecisive, or slow to figure out who to throw to on passing plays, and thus gets in trouble, has to scramble and/or throw the ball away. I suppose the RMC secondary could have caused those problems for him, but the opposing QBs in RMCs first three games have been better. I generally don't like to point the finger at individual players, but that's what it felt like to me today.

It was a good day for the Jacket ground game, especially Mitchell Johnson, even though he didn't score a TD. Bauman, Overbay and Detric Brown all had solid performances.

In the other games H-SC downed Shenandoah 30-14 in Winchester. Roanoke trailed Guilford 16-14 late in the 2nd quarter, but then cruised to a 52-24 win. W&L easily handled Averett 34-7.

Quote from: Macon on October 03, 2026, 10:30:08 AM^^^  I look at this Dickinson win totally different.  Any Dickinson win lessens RMC's loss to them.  If you're RMC, you want Dickinson to win out.  Dickinson's entry into the Top 25 helps RMC.

Completely agree. That just has much more to do with NPI than it does with the ODAC race.

Not important in terms of the overall ODAC picture, but perhaps of interest to some. Last night RMC's first two opponents, Dickinson and Johns Hopkins, played each other. Dickinson won 35-21 at home. Prior to the game Hopkins was two votes ahead of Dickinson in the Top 25 RV category. This win will likely put Dickinson into the Top 25 and ahead of RMC, wherever the Jackets land in the voting. No guarantees that RMC will even remain in the Top 25.

Webster has a campus in San Antonio: https://www.webster.edu/locations/sanantonio/index.php

^^^ I saw a good bit of that CNU/Susquehanna game as well. (Without RMC to watch, why not?) CNU defense was outstanding, as you said. Susquehanna turned the ball over six times -- four fumbles, two INTs. One of the early fumbles was with their RB trying hard to get into the end zone, but a CNU defender knocked the ball loose ending SU's best chance to score the entire game. CNU has allowed a total of three TDs in three games.

Three lopsided shutouts today. Roanoke the only winner 52-0 over Gallaudet.

Brevard thumped Guilford 59-0.

Centre overwhelmed Bridgewater 45-0. I was in and out watching this game with the sound off most of the time. Didn't see a lot of the scoring by Centre. Late in the 4th quarter Bridgewater had the ball but was missing on long pass attempts. On third or fourth and long Centre was penalized 15 yards (not sure what for) so Bridgewater got a fresh start and on the next play completed a long pass to a wide open receiver who was tackled at about the Centre seven yard line. On the following play, which looked to be a designed QB keeper, the BC QB fumbled and Centre recovered. A score there could have given BC something to feel good about. It was not to be. Don't know if that was characteristic of what preceded it in the game for Bridgewater. Feeling bad for the Eagles. Centre's defense did look pretty good. In their two losses preceding this game they had given up only 17 and 16 points respectively.

^^^ Roanoke should beat Gallaudet given that Averett thumped Gallaudet last week. But the other two games are harder to call. I'm guessing Guilford will lose to Brevard. As for Bridgewater at Centre, who knows? Both are 0-2. Both were shut out 17-0 in their first games. Both scored two touchdowns in their second games, but Bridgewater was playing a very good Susquehanna while Centre played LaGrange.

The Top 25 voters have corrected their pre-season view of Hopkins, dropping them into the RV group.

I agree that this season is not like the last few in the ODAC. I'd be surprised if anyone goes undefeated.

^^^ Well, the whole spelling thing is understandable given that Quentin Mankin is also on the roster.

^^^ Hope you are right about that, but it's still early and the stat sheet is pretty sparse. He's actually only scored one TD on a total of two catches, although both catches netted considerable yardage -- 61 and 57 respectively: https://rmcathletics.com/sports/football/roster/quinten-jones/15945

Having said that, he's only had a chance to play in three games, so lots of time remaining to prove you right.

Also, correct spelling of first name is Quinten.
