UMHB women's basketball edged past Rhodes last night in the season opener for both teams. 73-72 the final in Belton. UMHB needs to find  more offensive rhythm, something HC Mark Morefield said will be improved if the Cru sticks with its gameplan rather than settling for too many outside shots. Arieona Rosborough played well in her collegiate debut, scoring 10 points. Our recap of the contest:

Tomorrow's game between UMHB and HPU might just be the best on this week's ASC slate. It will be very interesting to see how UMHB's defense counters against a very solid passing attack from HPU. Though it is important to note that HPU has not looked very good in its last two games, losing to both Belhaven and HSU. ASC's top passing offense and top passing defense collide in Belton tomorrow.

It's officially Hardin Simmons week. Let's go Cru!!

Yes it is! Excited for this one.

Last night's win was a good improvement for the defense. While it was against Southwestern, whose offense is far from the level of HSU, the UMHB pass rush was at a high level throughout the game. It was also great to see KJ Miller back in action. He will be key against HSU, both at WR and in the return game. Here's our article recapping last night's contest:

UMHB looks filthy. Lots of answers for the offense against a more than overmatched Simpson. Next week, ETBU.

Southwestern...WOW. Getting their hats handed to them in SoCal.

Coach Fred had stated some discipline for KJ Miller. Two games.

Man, I think this was the most complete first game I've seen out of the Cru in recent memory.  I mean, Simpson could have made some bad things look good but I was impressed.  Loved seeing all the different blitzes from the defense instead of the same old defense play after play.  King, Cormier, and Miller all looked like they returned in top form from last year.  Brandon Jordan did a really good job, and Gary Ruckman was his usual dependable self.  Tommy Bowden looked really good too.  That dropped TD pass was an amazing throw.  Loved seeing Ryan Redding getting some playing time as well.  Dude has been a trooper and stuck around behind lots of really good QB's.  It is crazy that we used five different RB's and Aphonso Thomas didn't even make it on the field who coach and the two deep had starting.  Lastly, gotta give the D a ton of credit limiting them to -9 rushing yards :O.

Bring on ETBU next week!

Yeah it was a great showing for the Cru. Just a complete game overall. The secondary will need to be ready for ETBU's passing attack next week but the most impressive thing for me on that side of the ball was the defensive line. They got into the backfield on just about every play, and was the biggest reason for Simpson's limited offense. King looked good at QB. Very accurate, and great reads. Uses the RPO very well. That was something some of the national media was concerned with regarding UMHB this season, but everyone looked in sync on offense.

Here's the game story from True To The Cru with quotes from Pete Fredenburg:

Thanks! Some interesting things on the roster and 2 deep there. No KJ Miller on the 2 deep, Tommy Bowden on the kick return team, we have 3x receivers over 6'4" on the roster :o (although two are converted quarterbacks). All in all looks like a loaded roster. Can't wait to watch them in person tomorrow night from the stands. I probably won't even bring my camera...

Yes it will be interesting to see how the team performs tomorrow. There were a variety of changes to the two-deep this morning, so it appears the coaching staff is still trying to figure out who will play significant snaps tomorrow. Jamaal Hamilton is one newcomer who should see some action early. Former WT A&M and Houston WR was moved to a starting role on the two-deep this morning.

Other sports will remain in the SCAC I believe. Nothing about their other sports changing conferences was mentioned in the press release.

UMHB men's basketball will face D1 UT-Arlington on Nov. 13. It will be the Mavericks' homecoming game and is set for 7 p.m. in Arlington. UMHB will also host Southwestern on Nov. 9.

I haven't been on here for a couple days now, but just saw this. I can confirm Sims will not be back. He is currently pursuing pro options and the draft next year but has been working with former UMHB football player Bryson Tucker, who runs Sacrifice Training in Pflugerville. KJ should be back though. And as far as UMHB has told me, they're not planning on placing restrictions at games, though things can certainly change.
Riley, I don't know the source of your info but I know for a fact that Aaron Sims is back in class and I saw him going to practice so I believe he'll be back in uniform.

Yes, Coach Fredenburg announced that publicly yesterday. I have an article that includes that out now:
https://truetothecru.com/2021/08/17/fredenburg-aaron-sims-is-back-umhb-enormously-confident-as-preseason-camp-gets-underway/

I had been told by multiple people this summer that he was pursuing a professional opportunity, but things can always change which is what seems to have happened here. Huge additon to the UMHB special teams unit with KJ Miller back there as well.

I haven't seen it come out. The only part of Trinity's schedule I can confirm is their annual tournament, which will feature UMHB and be held Nov. 5-6 in San Antonio.

When does UMHB report for football?  I wonder with all the rising cases of COVID if there is going to be restrictions as far as attendance or games cancelled or even the season?  Hate to think negatively but I guess it's a possiblity.

Next week?  They tweeted out one week on Wednesday.  It'll be interesting to see what the rosters say.  I suspect Aaron Sims will be back just from what he has posted and been tagged in on twitter.  Legit excited to see him and KJ returning kicks again.

UMHB has inked four D2/D1 transfers within the last 10 days or so. Highlight being Houston's Jamaal Hamilton, though all 4 look to be guys who can contribute early.

Coaching change at UMHB:
Assistant coach Haven Neal has left for the high school ranks. She will be replaced by Kendra Foreman, formerly Kendra Wynn, who has been coaching at the University of Dallas. Foreman played at UMHB for two years and was the ASC's West Division Defensive POY in 2016-17.
