45-0 at half. Will be interesting to see how they come out in the 3rd Quarter.

My biggest concern is that Maloney seems to throw into coverage quite often this year. I'm not sure if the reads are different or what's going on, but he seems to force a lot of passes to receivers who are not open.
I've also heard that when Burke came in, he completely changed the terminology of the offense.
Obviously that's his right to do as an offensive coordinator, but I would think he would want to adjust his scheme to what was working and just tweak things.
But maybe he thought it needed a total reset.

This.
If Mount Union doesn't fix things soon, they won't qualify for the hypothetical bowl game. They'll end up 6-4 with losses to ONU and BWU in the remaining games.

September 29, 2026, 09:53:48 AMQuote from: #1OacFan on September 29, 2026, 12:06:42 AMGang up on me if you want, but it's a bad look if they turn down the opportunity to play and compete in the post season bowl game. Not fair for the guys on the team that may not get another opportunity to play football. It will add to the downfall or could help them get better with a young team and return the team to glory.
Yes, they blocked them by beating them fair and Square on the football field. The same way they beat nearly every other team in the country Playing D3 football. Only BW, ONU, Heidelberg, JCU, Capital, Marietta, Otterbein, etc. 9-1 teams were being left out the tournament even from the OAC.
The Bowl games, have been a great edition and should be valued as such. It's disappointing to hear OAC fans not supporting these games. Sorry your team isn't as good this year as it has been in the past, but I promise you turning down opportunities to play football will not improve your chances of retaining the players you have, recruiting more high-quality players, or improving the players on your team. But if you wanna be arrogant and walk away from it, then the downfall won't just be a single season problem.
Florida allows High Schools to play in "Bowl Games" if they have a winning record and don't make the State Playoffs. They are usually played on a Thursday night, many seniors opt out, and are not real competitive. I would turn down a D3 consolation "Bowl" game if invited.

Coached our HS game last night and one of the opposing coaches was Wyatt Stiehl, former TE at Mount Union.
Nice young man who had good things to say about Kyle Miller, Coach Ely and Coach Collins.

I think it needs to start on Defense. I googled the most points given up by Mount Union in a game:
2013: (50) 62-59 win vs Wesley in Quarterfinals
2013: (52) 52-14 Loss to UWW in Stagg
1999: (51) 57-51 Triple OT win vs John Carroll
2007: (44) 44-34 Loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the Stagg Bowl
2013: (40) 41-40 win vs North Central in Semifinals
2009: (38) 38-28 Loss to UWW in the Stagg Bowl
2026: (37) 37-31 Loss to Hedelberg
2019: (34) 34-14 Loss to North Central in Second Round
2013: (34) 42-34 Win vs John Carrol in Regular Season
2016: (31) 31-28 Loss to John Carroll in Regular Season Finale
2001: (30) 33-30 win over John Carroll in Regular Season
The majority are in the playoffs or to JCU who was a perennially nationally ranked team.
I can't find a way to justify giving up 37 to Heidelberg. Especially when we had Five Interceptions on Defense.
That list isn't close to correct, the AI summary did quite a bit of hallucinating, here's a few corrections and additions I noticed:
2019 was 59-52 against NCC , I vividly remember the defense being optional at that one.
2007 Stagg Bowl was against UWW and it was 31-21
2014 Stagg Bowl was a 43-34 loss against UWW
1999 UMU gave up 33 in a W against Augustana
2015 Stagg Bowl was a 49-35 W
2013 UMU had a 70-45 W against Alfred in the playoffs
2013 UMU also had a 44-34 W against Berg
This inspired me to do some digging by hand, here are all the games mount gave up 30+ points in the last 10 years.
for clarity I just put the amount of points given up and the opponent and result
2019 59 NCC Loss
2016 45 Alfred Win
2024 41 NCC Loss
2017 40 UW Oshkosh Win
2017 37 Frostburg Win
2024 37 JHU Win
2026 37 ONU Loss
2018 35 Centre Win
2021 35 ONU Win
2021 35 JHU Win
2016 31 JCU Loss
2024 31 JCU Win
We lost to Heidelberg this year, not ONU.

Mount Union only has three rushing TDs in the first three games. That stands out to me. Longest Rush is for Bo (55 yards).

Giving up an 82 yard TD reception, a 69 yard reception and a 62 yard reception didn't help either.
Offensively they just don't seem to have found their rhythm. I was anticipating that Maloney would run the ball more, but it appears to be a lot of no read hand off plays. Someone eluded to the fact that Maloney wasn't 100%. That may have something to do with it. Also not having any big play threats at WR.

I get those leaving Mount off their rankings... but a one point loss at Wheaton is a very quality result against one of the best teams in the country. I have no faith whatsoever that anyone outside of John Carroll, Hope, or Wash U could fare as well... Unfortunately, embarrassing Muskingum, Marietta, Capital, and Wilmington collectively 300-13 isn't going to move the needle.
The problem is that they are not improving since the Wheaton loss. They seem to be regressing.

I have heard that LK and GD are not on the same page and that LK would not stand in the way of GD being fired.
There was an incident at practice a few years back between the two and it's not been a good relationship since.
