CCIW:

#8 Augie-IL 5, #9 Elmhurst 4
#3 Carthage 8, #6 North Park 1
#5 North Central-IL 6, #4 Carroll 0. (Adams hurled a 7-hit shut-out. NCC's 1st inning grand slam was all the offense they needed for this win.
IL Wes 4, Wheaton-IL 1. (IL Wes put up a 4-spot in the 6th and held on for the win. Sherwin's 3 run HR was the difference here.
#1 Millikin 9, Augie-Il 5 (Millikin put a 5-spot up in the 2nd and was never headed after that.

NACC North:

Game 1 Final:  MSOE 5, Marian 4 (Pondo went the distance for the Raiders in MSOE's win, their winning run scored on a wild pitch in the 5th inning.)

Game 2 Final:  CUW 10, Lakeland 0. 5 innings. (Falcons' Followell pitches a complete game shutout.)

Lakeland and Marian both need to win tomorrow to stay alive.

NACC South:

Game 1 Final:  Aurora 7, Dominican 1. (Spartans' Tomasko tossed a 5-hitter, going the distance. Lewis - 2 triples, 2 RBI, Rayborn 1 double, 2 RBI.

Game 2 Final :  In 10 innings, Rockford comes back from a 7-1 deficit to stun Benedictine, 10-9.  Rockford's Mikayla Seay not only threw 149 pitches to get the win, she and team-mate Emily Cox each had 2 HR's and 4 RBI's. The second of Seay's home runs was a 3-run shot in the top of the 10th, the Eagles plated 2 in their half, but fell short. The commentator was indicating Rockford's manager's theme for his team is "Shock the NACC." The Regents sure lived up to that billing tonight, holding off a high-scoring Benedictine offense in the clutch.

This is the first Rockford softball post-season win in school history.

Aurora vs. Rockford in the winner's bracket.

Dominican vs. Benedictine--this winner stays alive.

Regional rankings are now out for week 2.http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/softball/d3/regional-rankings

Before the regional rankings were published this week, the NCAA DIII Softball Tournament Committee reviewed an incident report concerning an incident on May 1 in the third inning of the first game of a scheduled doubleheader in Atlanta. between current #3 in Atlantic Birmingham-Southern and #7 in Atlantic Emory.  Birmingham-Southern came into the doubleheader already in the 2021 NCAA DIII tournament field, having clinched the Southern Athletic Association's automatic qualifying bid.  Emory is looking for either a Pool B or Pool C invite to the field, and the Emory Eagles have had a tough time getting games in due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing a cancellation in University Athletic Association conference competition this year (this cancellation in UAA conference competition this year also affected regionally ranked teams Brandeis and Carnegie Mellon, but both teams had an easier time getting games in)

As a result of the incident, game play was halted for over 30 minutes before it was decided that game action would not resume.

The only publicly available report filed by a sports information department on the incident was given by Emory, which stated that Emory's seniors were recognized.  It mistakenly said that Emory would get 2 forfeit wins as a result of the incident.http://emoryathletics.com/sports/sball/2020-21/releases/20210501sjutci

The NCAA DIII Softball Tournament committee, upon review, agreed with crediting Emory with 1 7-0 forfeit win over Birmingham Southern for purposes of regional ranking and selection, but ruled that since the 2nd scheduled game never happened, that 2nd game was a "no-contest."

As a result, Emory is now 7-2 (a .778 winning percentage) and Birmingham-Southern is 26-5 vs DIII teams and 27-6 overall vs D2 and D3 opponents.  (Birmingham-Southern also played 2 games vs a 2 year community college this season, which do not count.)

Does anyone know how many teams get in the D3 tournament this year?  Is this a 62 or 63 team year or is it reduced even more with teams not playing (the SCIAC only has 4 teams playing)?

I was also told going back to a regional tournament only format this year.

The 2021 NCAA DIII Softball Tournament consists of a 48 team field.

Initially, there were allocated 42 AQs, 1 Pool B, and 5 Pool C bids, but CUNYAC's AQ bid most likely gets reallocated to Pool C this year since the CUNYAC decided not to play sports this season.

So, my educated guess is 41 AQs, 1 Pool B, and 6 Pool C bids-- with 8 6 team regionals the weekend of May 20 through the 23rd with the 8 winners going to Salem, VA for the finals the following weekend.

No super regionals this year-- Selection announcement on ncaa.com Monday May 17 at 1 PM Eastern.

Thanks for the update, I did not know the teams dropped so low.  Upsets in conference tournament could throw a major kink in the picks.

And speaking of updates, Belhaven takes an loss in the ASC tournament this morning.
