Thanks GS. The issue is that I will forget 20 minutes after "learning" it yet again!
I'm going to blame it on age.

I must be missing something, which is not a new phenomenon.
Entire conferences signing up with Flo for $30k per year and maybe a few other bucks. I don't get it.
Just hire an Advancement professional (or 2). They will more than cover their costs and bring in more than the $30k from Flo and also develop long term relationships within the community and alum (ni, nae, nus - I always get those confused).
In addition to CNU day, a day of giving as others have mentioned, CNU also has team specific fund raising programs that are highly successful.
Cheers!

I'm sure the dynamics are changing as well. 25 years ago, I do not believe the issue of institutions closing was as much of a factor as it is today.
Just for fun...I looked just at Region I men's basketball teams. I counted 44. If you remove the extremely stable NESCAC and MASCAC, that leaves 26 Institutions. Of those 26, I counted 14 changed conferences (incl going from IND into a conference - it changed the conference so I counted it). Of those 14, 6 changed conference twice and 1 changed 3 times since 2006.
Maybe if I have the desire for more fun, I will look at other regions. I have no idea what my brief research means. I just find it fascinating that there are so many changes. (Heck - look at the ASC/SCAC craziness!).
Division III should have a portal for entire athletic departments!

I've been following D3 athletics for about 25 years. I have seen so many conference changes over the years. Someone recently said to me that they wonder when, if ever, some conferences and schools will start to see a value in stability.
You see stability in some conferences. But just look at the list Knightslappy posted (Thanks for keeping us up to date!)

I wonder how much of the ROU liability is offset by a corresponding ROU Asset? The entire ASC 842 is creating havoc with some balance sheets. I had to get our bank to redefine some of the debt covenants that were written before ASC 842 and impacted some ratios.

Thanks for the additional info, Ron.
I'd like to see their cash situation. If the loss is only $1.7 Million with approx $40 Million in plant and property, there's a good chance that depreciation may exceed the $1.7 Million loss. So, while the books may show a loss according to GAAP, they very well could be in a positive cash flow situation. However, like your post suggests, this situation is not tenable long term. I think it was a Sweet Briar president who said something like...."go get students and money".

There are a few others that I would look real closely at before writing a check for my kid.
It was this past fall, I think, that there were some posts on the ODAC boards about financial issues and personnel discontent at Lynchburg. Are you thinking of any others?
I think Lynchburg will be ok. Thinking more of Sweet Briar or EMU. Schools very dependent on tuition and relatively small endowments.
I found some info on EMU. In this report is a graph that provides a Financial Strength Score from the Council of Independent Colleges. Based on that one metric, they seem to be stable.

I don't recall seeing this on the boards. My apologies if I'm bringing up old news. Endowment now down to $1.9 Million.

April 17, 2025, 03:32:58 PMQuote from: KnightSlappy on April 17, 2025, 12:51:54 PMSlightly off topic, but as I'm updating some of my personal conference tracking info, I still have C2C as being on track to lose their AQ in Men's basketball in 2026-27 if they do not add an additional member. The conference as a whole was saved from restricted status by approval of their request in for immediate application of new bylaw 20.9.1.2 (6 member minimum) in February's membership committee meeting, but I do not think this helps MBB.
This past season, 2024-25, they had 5 members: (Chris. Newport, Mary Washington, Salisbury, UC Santa Cruz, Warren Wilson). Grace year 1.
Next season, 2025-26, they will add two provisional members: Johnson and Wales (NC) and Regent, but these should not count toward minimums (until Year 3 provisional status). Grace year 2.
2026-27, C2C loses the AQ in MBB.
2027-28, Regent and J&W (NC) reach Year 3 and begin counting. Waiting year 1.
2028-29, Regent and J&W (NC) are full members. Waiting year 2.
2029-30, C2C regains MBB AQ.
Please let me know if I am not correct on this or if I am missing something.
I have verified that you are correct. Nicely done! A nice and easy explanation.
