Would love to see a Amherst/Williams game at Fenway.

Quote from: Trin9-0 on Today at 10:38:20 AMCoast Guard and Merchant Marine will be playing the Secretaries Cup game at Fenway this fall. VERY cool!

A while back there was some discussion about the possibility of a NESCAC game there given the numerous connections between the league and the Red Sox and the existing Frozen Fenway ice hockey involvement.

Maybe this opens the door further...?

Quote from: crufootball on July 03, 2025, 09:23:49 AMGood for McMurry, in a town with 3 very similar universities (McMurry, HSU and ACU) they have to do something to separate themselves, especially given in the world of football there is no doubt they are the 3rd option.
Similar?
Maybe things have changed but...

You know how you can tell the difference between a McM alum, an HSU alum and an ACU alum?

The McMurry alum will say hello to you in a liquor store.

Do you know who is the best dancer on the McMurry dance floor??

The Baptist or Church of Christ preacher's daughter.

Do you know why you invite TWO Baptist  deacons or TWO Church of Christ deacons on your fishing trip?

Because one will drink all your beer.

Now, they may tell McMurphy jokes on the other side of the railroad  tracks at Hardened Sinners or on the Holy Hump.

Quote from: Caz Bombers on July 03, 2025, 12:40:53 PMHockey is by far their most successful and well attended sport, Utica would never touch it, they'd sooner drop football (they won't do that either).

Utica had 944 full-time undergraduate males enrolled in 2024. They had 143 football players on their 2024 roster.

So, roughly 15% of their male student body is on the football team.

Saying "they won't drop football" is an understatement. It would be the last sport they drop.

Record flooding underway in Kerrville, TX, home to Schreiner.  School should be OK as it's well above the river but the town is going to be hit hard by the rampaging Guadalupe River.

Quote from: Retired Old Rat on July 02, 2025, 10:06:37 PMThanks, Oz and MadRed.  I'm all signed up.  Kind of disappointed that your wife got that and I did not.

Spectacular. I hope it's a good afternoon filled with juicy updates.

Utica was supposed to move up to D2 so they could play D1 hockey.  There hasn't been any news on that for 3 years, this is probably why.

Quote from: Caz Bombers on July 03, 2025, 11:06:51 AMUtica already made a few athletics cuts 2 years ago, ending the swim teams and women's water polo due to the cost of upkeep on the pool (they also cut men's tennis at the time).

They also took a swing at new sports, adding wrestling and gymnastics. Not sure what other cuts they could make at this point. Maybe the golf teams and women's tennis.

If they hadn't just built a brand new facility, hockey would be the easy target. Nothing in D3 sports is more expensive than a hockey team. Rinks cost a fortune, and the maintenance is even worse. But since the facility opened in 2022, hopefully they get enough rent out of it to cover the costs.

Hockey is by far their most successful and well attended sport, Utica would never touch it, they'd sooner drop football (they won't do that either).

That doesn't mean it's not ruinously expensive, just that it would be deeply unpopular. But yes, very unlikely.
