JU....I think you make an excellent point regarding MUC.  I think people that don't see them may assume they are just bigger, stronger, faster, etc.  But as you mentioned they are not a I-AA team or anything.  I think they are very comparable to most top tier D3 squads.  For the most part the difference lies in coaching, execution and depth IMHO.  They simply rarely beat themselves (other than their predictably big penalty numbers).  And the depth lends itself to overcoming the inevitable injuries.  Oh, and guys like Kmic and Garcon help a little too.

A tip of the hat to the Bombers.  Excellent showing today.  I, for one, am hoping for a SJF--MUC match up if for no other reason than I would get to enjoy some E8 PP for another week.

I'm guessing he's referring to Euclid the mathematician and not the suburb of Cleveland.   My MUC education is finally paying off.  Can't wait to report the good news to my parents.  Of course I did immediately think of Euclid, Ohio so maybe I should hold off on that...

Just got back from Bexley and I had a couple thoughts/comments....

First off, what a finish to the game.  Without writing a game story, BW scored w/ 20 seconds to go on a tipped pass.  Cap nearly picked it off and BW's freshman RB caught it off the richocet.  Down 17-16 at that point, they went for 2 and the pass fell incomplete.  It was a crazy last 2 minutes and undoubtedly stressful for the Crusader faithful.

Second, my hat's off to BW.  They played like they were the ones with a playoff chance on the line.  The defense was flying around the field.  Their fans were out in full force and vocal.  All around good showing by the Jackets.  Except for the guy who threw something (looked like his chewed gum) at James Starks.  Starks was "shhh-ing" the crowd after his INT, but don't toss something at a kid.  It was harmless, but it just looks bad.

Capital defensive end Zac McKenzie (#99) started and played the entire game at running back.  You read that correctly...running back.  He got a breather every now and again, but he was definitely the featured back today.  In fact, he set up Cap's first TD by breaking a 37 yd run inside the 5.  I didn't see him play D at all, but hopefully one of the Cap guys can confirm that as well as possibly elaborate on this. 

All in all, fun game at Bernlohr today.  Keep your fingers crossed Cap.  I'm rooting for ya to get in and represent us well.

Haha...this year you're probably right about BC being a better game than Walsh.  I don't think I did a good job of clarifying my point in my initial post.  When I said I wanted them to play Walsh for selfish reasons I basically wanted them to play to quiet my friends that played at Walsh.  I lived in N. Canton the first 25 years of my life so as a result had friends and acquaintances play for Walsh.  It was these people that I know personally that I was referring to.  It was certainly not my intention to paint the current Walsh players or staff as arrogant (how could they be at 4-6?).  I apologize if that's how it came across.    

I agree with Skunks that SJU would be a great match up for the opener.  What a fine test and, equally as important, fun road trip to kick off the season that would be.

If that's out of the question then for totally selfish reasons I would love to see the Raiders schedule Walsh.  I'm not sure of any potential pitfalls of scheduling a NAIA school, but I don't think it's uncommon for non-conference games in D3.  I think anyone that grew up in or has lived in Stark County knows there's a certain level of arrogance over in N. Canton (and some of my own friends are included in that group).  I would love to see the debate settled on the field.

Thanks for posting your observations.  Regis should be ashamed of himself for letting things get that bad. 

I wonder how much the recent state of things in their pipeline (i.e. the Cuyahoga County parochial schools) has effected them.  The last few years it seems like there's 1 of the traditional powers that's good, but the others may be down by their standards.  I guess I'm just saying that I think the success those schools have at the HS level is a factor in the talent JCU gets.  Just a thought...

Capital downs Musky 19-13...a little closer than I was expecting there. 

I've seen Cap 4 times this season (Witt, ONU, Ott, MUC) and I cannot say enough about their defense.  Very impressive.  Especially when you consider the relative lack of a running game and injuries hurting the passing game on offense has caused them to be on the field often.  IMHO that's the best non-MUC defense I've seen since I've followed the OAC.  Granted that's no where near as long as some have been around, but it's still over a decade...even if just barely.
