Final:  Farmingdale State comes back from 2 sets down at home to stun Merchant Marine!
                (16-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-12)

Farmingdale State:  Outhit USMMA .227 to .107 in Set 5 to pull this match out at home
(There were some big-time adjustments made before Set 3,
(USMMA hit .400 and .524 in Sets 1 and 2 respectively, but
no better than .118 a set in 3-5. Farmingdale State also hit .296
                                                     in Set 4 as well.)

Rams start out their in-conference season with a bang!

Bard's 4-set win at Union tonight was hugely notable for it being Bard's first Liberty League win since they left the Skyline 10 years ago.

The Raptors had been 0-93 all-time in LL volleyball, but they are 1-0 and tied for first place tonight.

WLCALUM83

My congrats to that squad as well;  (Skamsa and Lum had .333 or higher hitting pcts. in the win, I noticed. They keep that play up, they'll continue to make their share of noise). Clarkson and Ithaca will be real tests for that squad.

                            (18-25. 25-22, 25-19, 25-20.)

St. Joseph's-Brooklyn: Adeoye .273 hitting pct.  Took advantage of 20 Old Westbury service errors.
Old Westbury:  Sam  .250 hitting pct.

Per Bard site, Ryan Lum got the "Liberty League Rooke of the Week" award for her play. (58 digs on the week)

Both St. Joseph squads are now tied in conference with 2-1 records.

Region III "better than expected in-conference squads" at least to this point:

SUNYAC:  Cortland and Fredonia:  (Red Dragons have New Paltz, Oneonta, Plattsburgh and Postdam), Cortland should be OK unless it goes 0-4 in-conference the rest of the way.  Fredonia has already played 7 in-conference matches, has Geneseo and Brockport to play yet, and, believe it or not, is only 1 conference win away from clinching a playoff spot. Fredonia can finish 1st by winning out if Cortland loses twice in-conference.

Empire 8:  Keuka (have Houghton and SJF left in-conference, could finish .500 in-conference, 1st year in E8)

Liberty League:  RIT  (has Vassar and Bard in-conference yet).

Skyline:  No pre-season poll. USMMA is in good shape at the moment. Real dogfight at the top of this conference. Purchase is the only squad out of conference tournament contention.

Geneseo vs. Fredonia (SUNYAC action) up shortly.

Also keeping tabs on Cortland/New Paltz.

#12
SUNYAC Finals:

Geneseo over Fredonia in 3 sets:
     (25-14, 25-12, 25-23)

Geneseo:  12 service aces  Outhit Fredonia .329 to .071

Cortland over New Paltz in 3 sets:
       (25-19, 25-19, 25-18).

Cortland:  Outhit New Paltz .374 to .160  3 Red Dragon players hit .571 or higher

With those results, unless I'm missing something, Fredonia, despite today's loss, has clinched a SUNYAC Tournament spot. Even with a loss vs. Brockport tomorrow, Fredonia would have tie-breaker advantages over all but Cortland, Brockport and Geneseo. Buffalo State can't catch them. Cortland and Geneseo both need one win to get in. Should Buffalo State and Oneonta finish tied for the last spot, Buffalo State would advance on the tie-breaker, but Oneonta's got 2 fewer in-conference losses at this point.

Skyline Conference Race Update:

USMMA has clinched a spot in the conference tournament.
Manhattanville: has both St. Joe's squads, Sarah Lawrence and Old Westbury yet. 2 wins and they're in.
Farmingdale State:  Old Westbury, Sarah Lawrence, Yeshiva and Maritime yet. Should this squad end up tied at the top with USMMA, FSU would get the top seed, having knocked off USMMA head to head. 2 wins and they're in.
Sarah Lawrence:  Mt. St. Vincent, Farmingdale State, Manhattanville, St. Joe's LI. (SL is in good shape at the moment, the danger would be if they lost all 4 of these matches.

From 5th St. Joe's LI to 10th Maritime, that's the dogfight section at the moment.
