Quote from: SoCalLance on April 11, 2026, 11:46:34 AMI believe APU and Cal Lutheran are the only Colleges/University in the SCIAC that require students to take to take religion and philosophy courses.

APU has a very unique opportunity with what was D2 sports and facilities now moving to D3. I would imagine due to the decline in enrollment (similar to Whittier) they are going to be letting just about anyone in to build the football program back up. 2.5+ GPA's should do the trick.

Also, any word on how APU and Whittier are doing in terms of overall numbers? I would hope each team will have 60+ on the roster for the 2026 season? Who knows.
In the broadcast, the coach said they had 26 players at spring practice.

Quote from: hazzben on April 10, 2026, 12:30:48 PMD3Podcast had an episode not to far back with AJ Parnell, new APU head coach.

Interesting to listen to AJ, a former teammate, talk about his vision. Similar to Bethel in the MIAC or Wheaton in the CCIW, carve out a niche recruiting pitch / footprint and hammer away at it. My gut reaction was that this would be a pretty unique pitch in the SCIAC correct?

Not just D3:
Syracuse University is closing or halting enrollment in about 20% of its academic programs, in a move that the school's provost said was designed to create a university that would be "more focused, more distinctive and more aligned with student demand." The humanities and the fine arts represented the largest share of programs that will be closed or paused.

Includes Classics, Ceramics, and Italian.

LOL I missed the typo.  It should be "SCIAC".

Maybe some of that million should go to a new SID.

Quote from: olddog on March 24, 2026, 11:56:18 AMAdvise for APU fans and coaches, take that 1m and go find some linemen. I keep seeing post for back line players going to Whittier and APU...Best O line in the SCIAC wins league. CU, CMS, UR, even CLU and PP will play good defense, but it comes to the O line.

CMS Sports Bowl, they have started and raising funds for naming rights, btw I have seen more renderings and the FB Field will sit in a bowl, now sure how good the views will be.
If OXY had an OL they may still be playing.

UCSC would fit into the SCIAC if they were closer.
In it's history, the SCIAC has included UCLA and San Diego State.  But that was long ago.

Quote from: Ralph Turner on March 04, 2026, 11:38:32 AMThanks for the response.

I recall the 2022 Gallaudet season when they won the ECFC.

Sure, DelValley beat them 59-0 in the first round, but Gallaudet played their peers and won a conference championship. Del Valley beat everyone in the MAC by 3 TD's including Misericordia by 41 and FDU-Florham by 35, so that score was no surprise.

Sure 2022 was special for the school, but D3football.com ranked the ECFC 26th out of 27 conferences that year. Gallaudet has 5 seasons over .500 in 25 years, only one with more than 7 wins. You can put lipstick on the bison, but it's not going to get prettier.
They do have a limited recruiting pool.  But if they can get one or two DI type players they will win their share.

Quote from: Ron Boerger on February 19, 2026, 09:59:14 AMThis isn't relevant to recent discussion, but as the ASC schools do not participate in the annual NACUBO endowment study (prompted by D3Playbook recently listing endowments by conference), I went through each of the school's most recent audits (for the period ending mid-2025) to dig up these figures:

HSU:  $223.5M
UMHB: $132.3M
HPU: $46.7M
ETBU: $39.4M

in addition, the two schools joining the conference next year:

Schreiner:  $88.6M
McMurry: $81.4M

With the exception of HPU, all endowments showed some growth from 2024 to 2025.  HPU lost around $7M which given the small total is not a good thing.  All schools showed either revenues in excess of expenses (ranging from around $10M for UMHB to $0.6M for McMurry) to relatively small deficits ($0.2M for HSU to $2.8M for Schreiner).  All schools have a good ratio of assets to liabilities.

Interesting.....I'd have to do some digging and asking around....but I've always understood ETBU's endowment to be more in the $65-70M range instead of the $39M listed.  That seems really low.  But I can't say with any certainty that it isn't correct.  But that's almost half what I understand it to be.
Data USA says it is $70.9 M
East Texas Baptist University has an endowment valued at about $70.9M, as of the end of the 2023 fiscal year. The endowment of East Texas Baptist University declined 15.5% from the previous year. The value of their endowment was $19.4M higher than than the median endowment of Baccalaureate Colleges according to the Carnegie Classification grouping.
