Region 1 men's basketball / Re: MBB: NESCAC
Last post by D3BBALL - Today at 01:51:34 PMCongrats to Amherst huge win. They are in every game and I think with a win today very good shot at the 4th seed. By far biggest surprise of the league
Trinity has a shot at second seed. Tufts on the road against Bates to finish the season. Will be big game.
Bates played well against Trinity shot 46% from field and over 50% from 3, tied rebounding but 26 turns overs a killer

There was a time when I didn't speculate about possible outcomes of games. Looks like it's a practice I should go back to.

Still gun shy? You can't even conclude that VWU will win at Randolph

Last post by iwu70 - Today at 12:17:19 PMYes, interesting on NYU. They also tied the Wash U record for consecutive wins in D3 women's roundball -- at 81. Remarkable. I agree they seem to be coming back to earth and might be beatable if they have an off night. Still favored to go out this year undefeated.
Senior Day 'all round at The Shirk today. Some great kids heading out into the "real world." I'll especially miss watching Ava Bardic and Sawyer White play for the Titans. Unique athletes at the D3 level. The future of the IWU program is very bright, with all the key freshmen playing this year and others waiting on the bench for their chance to shine. Mia Smith will just reload and soon become the winningest coach in CCIW history.

Last post by doolittledog - Today at 12:17:10 PMQuote from: MediaGuy on February 05, 2026, 04:41:06 PMI just learned that in the year 2000, Wartburg Mens Basketball beat UCF in what seems to have been an exhibition game in Florida and feel bad since i was on campus at the time and dont even remember. Anyway, since its the off-season and I love stories like this I thought I'd ask the group...what is your schools best "beating a bigger school" moment from any sport?
(And im not counting a win over Iowa Teachers College in 1949)
For UD, nothing you would consider recent.
Football
beat Illinois State 25-14 in 1938
Basketball
beat Illinois State 61-49 in the 49/50 season
and Illinois State again in the 58/59 season 81-74
beat Drake twice in a home/home series in 01/44 50-41 and 45-41
beat Northern Illinois in the 49/50 season 45-43

Last post by Bartman - Today at 11:50:54 AMCongrats to the top three, Union,Vassar and RPI. It looked like Hobart was going to break their 5 game losing streak with some healthy leads, good shooting , defense and rebounding, but after 30 minutes they let it slip away again, this time against RPI making it 6 consecutive losses. I hope the team shrink can talk to them before the Union game and they can play a full game. They are tied for the last spot for the tournament and have no chance for a home tournament game now. Hopefully they can pull off an upset tonight against a great Union team. If not, they'll likely need to win out, but at least they are finishing the season at home. Not giving up, but "it is what it is".

Last post by Green Beer - Today at 11:27:03 AMA follow-up to my previous post about NYU, another team took them to the limit last night. Case Western Reserve played them hard for four quarters and had them within 4 points in the last 3 minutes. CWRU has an 8-11 record. It would take the perfect combination of preparation and luck, but I think NYU is beatable.

He's too nice of a guy to make a foolish scene like Jeff Gard does. If Dernbach acts like Gard I will dress him down too. When Miller (forgot his first name) left Whitewater I thought all the jerks were gone, guess not. Win at all costs isn't acceptable here. NPI doesn't measure that, unfortunately. Eye test pretty bad from this vantage point.
Did you think UW-Whitewater coach Pat Miller's antics on the sideline were acceptable? I'm amazed the institution didn't censure him. FYI, for those of us outside Whitewater, he will be remembered for his behavior more that winning titles. I was a teenager going to Point games when he was coaching and I was amazed he could get away with his antics.
This was about berating referees. Nothing else.
Ok, shouting the F bomb to rally your supporters isn't foolish and you wouldn't dress them down. Thanks for clearing that up.

Region 5 women's basketball / Re: WBB: Landmark Conference
Last post by Augie2020 - Today at 11:21:49 AMQuote from: deiscanton on Today at 09:54:16 AMThanks Deiscanton. I totally agree about the Landmark .Quote from: Augie2020 on Yesterday at 11:25:41 PMMassey has Scranton #2 and NPI has them 7th with a two loss team and a one loss team in front,But will let it play out. To the Landmark guys this is something I have been trying to figure out.Massey gives you game by game . NPI will not. So I'm looking for how did they count that Susquehanna game as a neutral game for Scranton or an Away game? The Landmark justified that Susquehanna be home Scranton away so do you get more of a multiplier for that game even though it was played at the Palestra Scranton was still away .
DIII Women's Basketball does not use a home/away multiplier in NPI calculations. In DIII women's basketball, a win counts equally whether the game is home, away, or on a neutral floor. Once a team reaches 15 actual wins, that team on the 16th win can drop a win that hurts their NPI calculations.
DIII Men's Basketball uses the home/away multiplier, and the multiplier is different for conference and non-conference games.
Scranton is currently ranked #7 in the DIII Women's NPI national rankings this morning and the unofficial number this morning according to D3Datacast is 62.703 as of 9:09 AM ET this morning-- the most recent run of the D3Datacast numbers using the scores from Massey.
Scranton is 20-0 going into their home game vs Elizabethtown this afternoon, and since the NPI ranking uses Scranton's best 15 wins for purposes of the NPI calculation-- Scranton is no longer counting the win vs Wilkes, the win vs Penn State Harrisburg, the season sweep vs Goucher, and one of the 2 wins vs Juniata. If Scranton beats Elizabethtown today, the other win vs Juniata will be dropped.
Scranton is hurt in conference because so many Landmark teams are below the top 150 in the national NPI rankings, so the Lady Royals have to win out as many games as they can because a lot of Landmark Conference opponents do not carry quality win bonuses.
The official NPI summary report for games through February 1 as published by the NCAA DIII Women's Basketball Committee can be found at
http://stats.ncaa.org/selection_rankings/nitty_gritties/48515
You can get to Scranton's NPI resume afterwards on the NCAA page by clicking on the NPI rank number for Scranton, which is #7 as of games through February 1.

I can't see the connection nor am I in the stands behind his bench. If he said LFG you can find that everywhere in today's dialogue; whether you approve or not is your call.
The WIAC needs to embolden officials to penalize coaches immediately who are overexuberant in their efforts to change calls, interfere, etc.
