Whitman

If this is accurate, Whitman has to have agreed to the craziest three game travel schedule I have ever seen.  First, they fly from either Walla Walla or drive 45 minutes to Pasco (or 2.5 hours to Spokane) to fly to Colorado Springs or Denver and play at Colorado College on Thursday, Sept 4.  Second, they hop on a plane in Colorado Springs or Denver and travel to (I assume) Austin and then take an hour bus ride to Belton, Texas to play Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday, Sept. 5th.  Third, they fly from Austin to Los Angeles or Burbank airports and drive 1-2 hours (depending upon traffic and time of arrival) to Thousand Oaks to play Cal Lutheran on Sunday Sept. 7.  Then they have two weeks off before conference play.  I'm envisioning some travel agent's Rubik's cube of one way flights on regional jets to pull this off.  Three games in four days in three different time zones and 5000+ feet changes in elevation.  Maybe the Admissions Office was offering a subsidy to any coach who could visit several different metropolitan areas for recruiting events this year?

Beyond the logistical nightmare of the trip, that's a nice opportunity to play three strong schools from three different conferences.  Whitman traveled to SoCal last year and beat Chapman and La Verne, while losing to Redlands, so Cal Lutheran should be a good matchup for them.

General Division III issues / Re: Future of Division III

Siena Heights, an NAIA school in Adrian, Michigan that routinely plays DIII schools in the area such as Adrian and Albion, announces it is closing after this upcoming academic year

QuoteSiena Heights University, with the full support of the Board of Trustees and General Council of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, will close at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 academic year.

Senior leadership has assessed the financial situation, operational challenges, and long-term sustainability. Despite the dedication of our board, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters, continuing operations beyond the coming academic year is no longer feasible.

"For 105 Years, Siena Heights University has been a beacon of light in a world sometimes cast in darkness," said Dr. Douglas B. Palmer, President. "The spirit of Siena Heights will continue long after the institution itself closes its doors because it lives in every graduate, faculty member, and staff person who has been on campus – whether in-person or online."

The University's top priority will be students' academic progress and working with partner institutions to establish transfer pathways that allow as little disruption as possible. Faculty and staff will be supported with transition assistance. The intent is to have as full and vibrant an academic year as possible, including academics, athletics, support services, and extracurriculars.

They will get the visa as long as they have not posted pro-Hamas or anti-Israel sentiment on Instagram, Tik Tok, or Twitter.

Greta Thunberg would not get a visa if applying today.

Quote from: art76 on June 24, 2025, 09:12:14 AMInitial Team Standings about IREC teams from ESRA. Some schools from Australia took home some bling, as did the U of MN. Sorry, I don't remember which team you had some affiliation with Oz. Complete list here: https://www.soundingrocket.org/news1

The Aussies did all right.  I scanned the list of schools in the registration spreadsheet and didn't see BU.  Is this the comp your squad participates in?

My two youngest are still attending Monash University, and the eldest graduated from the University of Melbourne. Not one of them is close to rocketry. As they freely tell me, they're not nerds like their old man. Well, this old nerd loved model rockets (regretting only that he didn't have collegiate rocket competition experience), and he did alright for them.

BU was forced to drop out of this competition from lack of funds back in January. It costs a lot to send even half a dozen students half-way across the country for a full week. It's got to be that much more to send students overseas via commercial airline - oof-da! We're still awaiting word on how we did in the regional competition, which happens to be held here in MN, so travel costs are quite a bit more manageable. As I hear more, I'll share.
What does it cost to send 70 football players around Minnesota 6 times a year?  Figure out the other sports on your own.

Is the point here that if they can afford to send the football team to away games then they should be able to send the rocket team to nationals for a week?

I'm all for the rocket team going to these events, even nationally. But the football team is a totally different budget, and a fixed/known cost that doesn't change much YOY. In a perfect world it'd be a yes to all of them.

In a similar vein, Bethel had to do some locker room expansion work this year with the size of the incoming class. Sounds like around 50+ incoming freshman/transfers. Knowing it'd require additional space, coaches were still trying to be picky about who was invited. Quality and quantity of recruit seem to be trending up. Which is good, since there are plenty of gaps to fill with all the Covid SR's graduating out.

Nil  :o  ;D  will be my posts about NIL until its closer to the season.

Hot week in WI means we keep watering the chickens aggressively.  We mist them near the outdoor area but they are smart enough to stay in when it gets near 90 and sticky.

Would love to offer tours but risks of disease are enhanced by strangers being in the pens.

Quote from: Flying Dutch Fan on Today at 10:12:07 AMAgree about Hope's schedule, and it looks to be a bit better than Calvin's - at least based on last years records and NPI.  Quick comparison below:

Calvin:
9 known games (Kuyper doesn't count being non D3) and a TBD in the Wisc Dells Tourney.
Those 9 opponents last year had a 0.550 W/L, NPI average of 129, and 1 of them (Denison) was an NCAA tourney team last year

Hope:
All 11 oppponents are known.
Last year they had a 0.596 W/L, NPI average of 111, and 3 of them (Franklin, UW Platteville, and WashU) were NCAA tourney teams last year.

Kuyper 👎

Looks like they couldn't fill the Thanksgiving weekend like they were trying.

Typical tough schedule for Hope.  Assuming they get Carthage and IWU in the TBD tournament, they are facing (based on last years stats):

4 NCAA tournament teams
5 top 50 in NPI
7 top 100 in NPI
Avg NPI rating of all 9 opponents is 86
Those 9 teams avg 0.690 W/L

Derek Slywka with a day and a half for the Toronto Argonauts.

First he returns a fumble 104 yards for a touchdown — the fourth longest fumble return in CFL history

Then he returns a blocked field goal 108 yards for another touchdown — the longest blocked FG return in CFL history.

Big time players, big time plays
