It seems Guilford hasn't announced anything yet, but this came across the desk today:

https://www.colby-sawyerathletics.com/news/2021/5/24/mens-basketball-longtime-mens-basketball-coach-bill-foti-accepts-athletic-director-position-at-guilford-college.aspx
Hopefully he can right the ship down there in the sports information department, it was disgraceful this year.

Guilford and Southern Virginia opted out of their upcoming seeding matchup.

The Game will decide who plays for the championship!  Congratulations Tigers on another fine victory!
The winner will host the championship, the loser will host the #3 vs. #4 game. #4 will be Bridgewater if they win next week. If they lose and Ferrum wins, then it will be Ferrum. If they both lose, it will be Bridgewater.
So here's how it breaks down now for next week's game with only one game left before the title game and seeded games. Highest seeded team hosts each game.

#1 Winner of H-SC/R-MC vs. #2 E&H - should be a good one

#3 Loser of H-SC/R-MC vs. #4 Ferrum - shouldn't be particularly competitive based on comparative scores

#5 Shenandoah vs. #6 Bridgewater - Literally a rematch of this week's game that SU won 19-18 by scoring the winning TD with 32 seconds remaining

#7 Southern Virginia vs. #8 Guilford - I imagine this will be some grotesque football but SVU should win handily because this Guilford team is about as one of the most uncompetitive ODAC football teams I've ever seen

Former H-SC top assistant Larry Blunt's current team Drake, where he is the top assistant, just beat Wichita State in the First Four, and did it without two of their three best players.

R-MC probably should have won that game by double digits easily, but for some reason they went into their burn offense with 4-5 minutes left and it frankly produced horrific offense, allowing Lynchburg to gradually chip away at the lead. Went 1-6 with two turnovers before Lynchburg started fouling. If they had stuck with what had been working, that 12-point lead with 4:47 remaining probably ends up being extended to 20.

And the only make  in the final 4:47 was when Funderburg fell down on offense, didn't have time to get back on defense, and scored a wide open layup with no Lynchburg player past halfcourt after a teammate got a steal.

Ultimately, the terrible burn offense didn't matter as R-MC hung strong on defense and closed the game on the foul line as Lynchburg was forced to foul to extend the game.

Buzz Anthony took over in the second half after a largely nondescript first half, scoring, I believe, 16 of his 20 in the second half. That's why he's the best in the league.

Ian Robertson could have easily had 20, but he missed a few open threes. For some reason the Lynchburg players played him like he couldn't shoot when the coaches were screaming at them to stop leaving to over help and to stop doubling off him. If you had to pick ONE thing he could kill you with on offense, it's three pointers, and they kept giving him open looks. I don't think he attempted a single three pointer that you could say was ideally contested unless he happened to force one up at the end of the shot clock. Meanwhile, Lynchburg largely did a pretty decent job guarding everyone else beyond the arc.

Well the picture for the championship game is starting to become pretty close to complete.

E&H is 3-0 and has no more games scheduled, so they are locked in for the championship game. Wouldn't surprise me if they tried to pick up a game either next week or two weeks from now with the W&L game being cancelled. Not sure you want to have two weeks off before the championship game when you've only played three games. It won't matter for the ODAC standings though as even if they pick up an ODAC team it won't be an ODAC game.

H-SC and R-MC the only other two teams undefeated. H-SC has Guilford next week and R-MC has Shenandoah next week. If they don't choke in those games, they'll be playing for the #1 seed and hosting the Championship game on April 2.

Well looks like W&L has cancelled their season. So every team is going to be able to get in that extra game at the end of the season then.

I heard yesterday WL only had 40 or so players. Is this true?
I mean they have a roster that clearly has more than 40 players listed.

Did you mean 40 available to play? There’s a big difference between having 40 players and having 40 players available to play.

R-MC survives at Roanoke. The Jackets had an 11 point lead with about a minute left but didn't handle the Roanoke press on the inbounds very well. Definitely the most challenged the Jackets have been in 10 games.
Macon barely beat Ferrum, only led by 1 with 32 seconds to play and never led by more than five in the final 10 minutes of the game. Actually trailed for several minutes over the last 10 minutes.

Ferrum was up 8 with about 2:20 left in regulation and ended up losing in OT. TC Thacker with 23 points and 26 rebounds, breaking the ODAC record for single-game rebounds. Second chance points was the big difference, Lynchburg led 23-6 in that stat, largely because of Thacker as he scored or got the offensive rebound that led to a score for 18 of those 23 points. That guy is just a ridiculously dominant rebounder, fewest boards he's had in a game this year was 12 in his first game back from having COVID., also has games of 18 and 19 rebounds this year.

Now Lynchburg will be hosting both the men's and women's ODAC title games. Will be interesting to see if they will host both on Thursday or not, schools have the option to play them on different days.

Odac is adding another member....Averett University. Starting next year they will be a full time member.

https://www.odaconline.com/general/2020-21/releases/030821-averett-membership

With the amount of teams in the odac (will be 14 on the men's side) they should think about splitting the conference in 2.

Article says full-time member for 2022-23 academic year, so that's two academic years from now, and that will give the ODAC 13 members for male sports.

And this is a good move from a geographic perspective and for football scheduling and will be a plus addition in a few sports, but Averett is pretty dreadful at quite a few sports. They were 1-17 in baseball last year and 8-30 the year before. Men's lacrosse has annually been quite possibly the worst or very close to the worst D3 lacrosse team in the country ever since they added the sport, but at least they are showing signs of improvement and beating other teams that are in that annual discussion, so perhaps they are D- caliber team instead of an F. Men's soccer has lost double-digit games the previous two seasons, and women's soccer has lost 22 consecutive games.

Word in the back alley is W&L is backing out of spring schedule. :(

2 games cancelled already. Men's BBall gave up the season early. I think W&L is being very, very conservative. Most winter sports had multiple cancellations. I think a few soccer games have already been cancelled as well. If you can't keep a few players on a basketball team from breaching whatever threshold you set, it's going to be almost impossible to keep 70 football players from doing it.
To be fair to W&L, there were more games cancelled than played in men's basketball for the entire ODAC. All but three programs had to go on at least one COVID pause - Ferrum, Roanoke, and Shenandoah. Though Roanoke or Shenandoah may have had a pause in preseason, I have no idea on that though.

On the women's side it wasn't as bad, but two teams also opted out for the season. I think generally smaller rosters helped with that as that reduces the # of people who could get COVID, could be other reasons away from the court, but that is merely speculation, of course. Lynchburg, Roanoke, E&H, Virginia Wesleyan, Shenandoah, Randolph, and Ferrum never had to go on a pause unless they went on a pause before games started.

VWU a late opt-out. Nothing on their website about it so I assume they had some positive tests come back.

2021 ODAC MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT PAIRINGS AND SCHEDULE - LIVE BRACKET
Quarterfinals | Saturday, March 6 | at #1-4 Seeds *
Game 1: #8 Emory & Henry at #1 Roanoke | TBD
Game 2: #5 Randolph-Macon at #4 Bridgewater | TBD
Game 3: #7 Shenandoah at #2 Ferrum | TBD
Game 4: #6 Eastern Mennonite at #3 Lynchburg | TBD

Semifinals | Tuesday, March 9 | at Higher Seeds
Game 5: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2 | TBD
Game 6: Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4 | TBD

Championship | Thursday, March 11 | at Highest Remaining Seed
Game 7: Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6 | TBD

* The start of the men's tournament is fluid given the number of teams competing in the field and subsequent lack of first round games. The default date for quarterfinal play is Saturday, March 6. However, upon agreement of both teams in each quarterfinal matchup, those games can be played as early as Thursday, March 4 and Friday, March 5. If an earlier alternative date is not determined, the game will be played on Saturday, March 6 as originally scheduled.

I knew Roanoke would be on the same side of the bracket as RMC. Crazy that the other side of the bracket seems to be way weaker.

Y'all didn't play R-MC, VWU, or Lynchburg in the regular season.

Maroons got W&L coming off a lengthy COVID pause for their first game of the season after Roanoke had been playing games with virtually no interruption for three weeks

Got Guilford, Emory & Henry, and Hampden-Sydney coming off a COVID pause.

It was also Emory & Henry's first game of the season, after Roanoke had two weeks of playing games.

Guilford only had two games under their belt, Roanoke had a whole month.

Got Bridgewater at the end of the month, after they had only been able to play in two previous games for the entire month

Barely beat a Shenandoah team who didn't win a single game, giving Shenandoah their closest margin of victory for the season

Please save me the complaining.
