One would think that the shakeup of the D3Football staff would change the history a bit.  Those who seemed to have a personal stake in the Mount Union QB depth chart are no longer around, thankfully.

I don't really see why a make-up between the only D3FB national brand, and the top D3FB media company is not possible.

Quote from: WRMUalum13 on August 06, 2026, 04:30:56 PMI don't know if any d3 recruits listen to the podcast, but it's such an enforced error to let all the other top tier d3 programs essentially give a nice program pitch while you don't. If I was a recruit id be like "wow the culture at north central sounds great" it just overall a bad look.

If we still had the mystique of "The Machine" I could see the angle of "we're too busy focusing on winning to do superfluous media" but when you get knocked out in round 2 of the playoffs every other year it doesn't quite work.

not to upset Pat, but I highly doubt many 17-18 year olds are listening to the D3FB podcast to make their college decision.  Winning and all the things that come with it are far more important, but you kind of referenced that in your second point

man, the COVID years, NIL and the transfer portal really did a number to high end D3 football.  Just that Mount Union team had nearly the same number of guys getting NFL shots (Lally, Namdar, Jones) as the entire division in 2026

IIRC my senior year 2012, Mount had more guys invited to mini-camps than either Akron or Kent (not combined, but one of those schools, can't remember which) I know it was at least Driskill, Diuesel and Collins, and maybe a few more

Also yeah that 2015 game was probably my favorite win of all time, so cathartic after watching us lose 5 straight against them.

Chris Denton was in camp with the Bucs as well.  Garcon, Shorts and Kyle Miller were in the league at the time as well.

Speaking of 2012, I haven't seen a full game upload of the Stagg Bowl.  But here's a link to the 2012 Semi-Final classic vs UMHB in Alliance

Quote from: D3fanboy on July 19, 2026, 12:51:06 PMMount's been doing a pretty good job of getting old Stagg Bowls uploaded to their youtube page in recent years.  The most recent upload is the 1996 Stagg Bowl.  Since July is basically unwatchable with the World Cup, WNBA and baseball; why not spend a couple of hours with the early days of the most dominant run in college football history?

916 yards and 13 TD in his 2 Stagg Bowl appearances...literally insane numbers

This is amazing. Would be a dream to uncover every stagg bowl replay.

2015 Stagg Bowl from Mount's youtube.  Might have been the windiest Mount game that I've ever been at, literally straight up/down the field.  The Purple Raiders would have dropped 70+ that night in decent weather.  The January Stagg in Salem should be....interesting

Mount Union and Bethel are going to be NPI hunting in IL.  I have a feeling only one of them comes out alive

The jersey sponsor could be Charmin, but bring back the black jerseys with the giant purple logos on the shoulders!

Quote from: Dr. Acula on July 14, 2026, 12:18:33 PMI saw a social media post ranking D3 schools by their followers across social media platforms.  Mount was #1.  The top 20 was full of a bunch of the usual suspects.  Cortland, UWW, HSU, SJU, NCC, etc.  But the one that surprised me?  Muskie at #17.  Good to see the Fish with some good support.

it's not shocking that Mount is far and away the best brand in D3.  But with OSU announcing today a $17m uniform brand deal with JP Morgan Chase...I wonder how much the only recognizable brand in D3 athletics could bring in?

It took Mount a few years to accept the Transfer portal and all those things, so I'm sure that Mount won't bring in the extra $ until somebody else in D3 starts

1v2 and 3v5 week 1, pretty awesome start to the season!

If only one of those would move to a night game on a hot Labor Day weekend.  What a schedule!

With the high degree of probability of temps minimally being in the area of 75, and the fairly high chance of 90 degree weather, the first two games of each season would ideally be scheduled at night.

With specific regard to early season games at NCC in Naperville, I can personally attest to the fact that they can be brutally sizzling even on a 75-80 degree day let alone one with even higher temps. Beyond high temps alone, humidity can, of course, play a role. And this is compounded by the fact that the home stands at NCC face WEST, and there is absolutely no shade anywhere near the seating area. Sit there, facing directly into the sun, for 2 and a half or 3 hours even on a 75-80 degree day and hat or no hat, your brain is going to feel like it has just emerged from an oven and is ready to explode. And this is to say nothing about the danger the players face playing in oppressive conditions.

However, when the visiting team faces a 7 hour bus ride home, night games are basically impractical. And not a lot of D3 schools have the financial wherewithal to pay for hotel rooms for an entire football team and its coaching staff. So there often isn't much of a realistic chance to offer players and fans some relief when it comes to early season games, especially if they might be great early season non-conference matchups like Wheaton/Mount and NCC/Bethel. ☹️

no doubt.  I understand the financial aspect of D3 sports.  Mount used to do one night game each year (typically the OAC home opener) and it was awesome for the players, students and fans.  Those midwest Labor Day weekends are typically equivalent to playing inside of a pre-heating oven.  Oh well, still an outstanding week of D3 football to kick off 2026...even week 2 has some bangers

off-season injuries are the absolute worst, and that one is a doozy. Sucks for McNeal, he was a dynamic player

Quote from: Dr. Acula on June 25, 2026, 01:14:47 PMNot a comment on D3 or Bowden, but in general I like the 5 in 5 rule if it provides clarity for both schools and athletes.  Between COVID and the complete lawlessness D1 is having currently it'd be great to get back to some clear rules everyone can follow.

Also, I saw there are now 4 D1 recruits that have transferred to Massillon this offseason.  Perpetual free agency from D1 down to high school is just how stuff works now it seems.

Massillon's recruiting budget dwarfs Mount's for sure

Are we done with 24-25 year old D3 players?
