Yeah, agreed that it's one thing to play those teams once rather than two or three times where they stand between you and an automatic bid.

Presumably in going from a two-year to four-year school, they will gain some in enrollment?

That is definitely interesting to ponder Marymount going back to the C2C. They were not competitive with Salisbury and Mary Washington in their long years in the CAC and it didn't get better when CNU came in. I don't think those things will have changed. Meanwhile, Marymount has won the commissioner's cup three years running in the AEC.

I know the CCIW is already committing a team to a postseason bowl, but they would also be a good match for an ARC runner-up.

Quote from: blue_jays on June 23, 2025, 01:28:51 PMThis $30K number you're throwing around is not what they're all getting. They're getting a cut of the PPV, it's gonna be more. How much more I do not know.

If so, this is unusual, but it would be a big benefit to the UAA.

I believe wildcat11 was one of those.

I learned about it when I was covering Catholic in 1994. It's a solid strategy.

St. Mary's is a public school in Maryland as well but I don't know the details as to whether they belong specifically to the University System of Maryland.

Quote from: justafan12 on June 09, 2025, 09:27:07 AMSomeone please explain to me how a player can be national player of the year and not even be the player of the year in her own conference.  D3 awards can be a bit strange at times.

One year the national player of the year was only a 2nd team AA.

Guessing it was because she was the national player of the year last year when her team won the national title, and whoever voted this year did so with name recognition as a primary factor.

But from a more hypothetical standpoint -- these things can happen if a player has a great postseason that elevates them above where they were a month earlier. It could happen if a conference votes solely on conference games and ignores great performances by players in the non-conference portion of their schedule.

I am guessing you're referring to 2016 with the other oddity? I do see that was the first year they had a national player of the year, and perhaps they didn't have all of their procedures in place. They didn't have anyone from UT-Tyler on the first team to choose from -- the mistake is probably not having Batten on the first team in the first place, rather than elevating her to player of the year after she posted an 0.29 ERA in the supers and World Series.

I feel like UMFK has been talked about for more than a decade.

As always, we did our own All-Tournament team.

Quote from: cubs on June 03, 2025, 05:48:02 PM18-3 Final....  Whitewater a win away from their first Baseball National Championship since 2016.

Side note....  Neither broadcaster picked up on the fact that the infield pop-up was never touched by anyone before m bouncing off the rubber, making it a foul ball....  (Not a "do over" as one surmised.)

Really, it seemed like nobody picked up on it except Vodenlich. Kudos to him.

Quote from: CNU85 on June 03, 2025, 02:32:23 PMI've been following D3 athletics for about 25 years. I have seen so many conference changes over the years. Someone recently said to me that they wonder when, if ever, some conferences and schools will start to see a value in stability.

You see stability in some conferences. But just look at the list Knightslappy posted (Thanks for keeping us up to date!)

I think conferences are trying to provide stability for their members by getting larger and grabbing available schools when possible. This guards against losing championship access when schools close/drop athletics.

Quote from: HansenRatings on June 03, 2025, 02:09:55 PMWith the way NPI works, if you're trying to make the playoffs, scheduling a team that's likely to have a below-average NPI isn't going to give you a boost - they're likely to get "dropped" from the calculation. So picking up a lot of the MWC's former non-con games against UMAC/NACC/bottom-feeder CCIW/MIAC schools isn't going to do us any good. Now, not having Luther drag down everyone's cumulative NPI will help, though.

What does taking Luther out of the SOS numbers and replacing them with a completely average 5-5 team do for the conference? Would it elevate the NPI numbers that much?

Love the math Logan!

If they can win two non-conference games against decent teams, they can raise the NPI.
