Perhaps that statement is the source of the stars.
Perhaps so. But to my mind, when a program greatly upgrades its schedule (Bard went from 7 NCAA games last season to 16 this season), and shows the ability to play with many of those teams, despite roster-wide injury problems, it is moving forward.
When I went to school at Bard, the coach actually refused to let me broadcast the home game against Becker because he thought it would embarrass the program. This year, at Becker, we lost by a point.
In previous years, Bard has struggled to make the HVMAC tournament- this year, they're playing competitively enough to have a legitimate shot at winning it.
Last year at this time, I was hoping we'd find ourselves a better conference with an automatic NCAA bid. This year, Coach Wood has the imminent move to the NEAC to sell to recruits. The move to the NEAC will also make it possible to have a full slate of NCAA games on the schedule next year. Such a move was unfathomable just a short time ago.
If some people don't see this as progress, so be it. I am well aware that the ultimate judge is wins and losses, and as I think I made clear in my previous post, it has been disappointing to see so many losses (particularly difficult are the close losses- 5 of the 11 are by 7 points or less).
But that frustration, to my mind, is no reason to ignore the progress the program has made, or the potential such progress has made for the future. And I feel badly for anyone who is so intent on running down a program trying to do the right things that he can't see those building blocks.
Howard: Hey, believe me, I'm not trying to run down Bard at all, I wish the best for them, seeing as how I live about 30 minutes from campus.
I've read previous battles with Pat C and the NJAC posters about these issues and found the whole debate hilarious.
I just don't see what it is that you want, Howard. Should Bard get a medal for finally leaving the pathetic HVAC for the still-pathetic, yet NCAA-recognized NEAC? OK that's not fair. Congratulations on joining the rest of the real D3 world, I guess.
I think the problem here is that Bard is making baby steps but you are selling it like they just finished a marathon.
Caz, I wasn't aware that I wanted anything. Hooplafan asked where I was, so I thought it was appropriate to respond. You asked me what I meant about them moving forward, so I gave you examples.
If a post talking about it being a rough year, with losses and injuries, but still being excited about the progress of the program is over the top in your opinion, then we'll have to agree to disagree.
I believe I've made this clear before, but to reiterate- I don't believe that Bard is at the level of an elite D3 program by any stretch. I do believe they've moved forward from what was a program in name only, and I'm quite pleased about it. Also, I believe the move to a better, NCAA-sanctioned conference and more challenging schedule bodes well for the future.
If either of these statements seem to indicate that I am 1) crazy or 2) demanding a medal, then I don't know what to tell you.
It's all good, Howard. I understand. Your initial statement confused me and seemed a little "out there" so I asked for clarification and I got it.
Again, I'll be rooting for Bard to win the NEAC and get to the tournament ASAP. By the way, when does the league get an auto bid and Bard officially join? Next year?
I also hope that the Bard athletic department realizes what a great fan it has in Howard Megdal and that they continue to ramp up their efforts to become competitive and draw more fans like him.
It's like The Voice says, If You Build It, They Will Come. Even Bard students will put down their bongs and hackeysacks and show up at Stevenson Gym for a winning team. The Red Hook/Germantown/Annandale community will as well, we're starved for good D3 hoops in the Mid Hudson Valley.
Caz,
I'm glad to hear it- if you're close, you definitely should come out to the HVMAC tourney at Bard this year 2/19 and 2/20- should be a great time.
Bard joins the NEAC next year, and the automatic bid is also happening in 2005-2006, according to what I've been told. Hopefully Coach Wood can add some depth to what will be the senior year for our four top players, and we can compete for it. Honestly, I have no idea how realistic that will be- it all depends on who we add and who everyone else brings back and adds. Still, Bard's chances for a bid next year are infinitely better than they are this year, just by virtue of being in a league where it is possible.
As far as excitement, you are right on the money. A winning team will excite even the most jaded liberal arts student- and events like Take a Kid to the Game Day have already had SRO community responses. A consistently winning program would offer badly needed entertainment in the Mid-Hudson region.
Thank you for the kind words, both for myself and the program.
The post from Ralph Turner dated 12/15 has the NEAC press release from last march stating the conference will be eligible for an AQ in the 2006-2007 season.
Mike,
I'll go ahead and check that out- I keep hearing two different years. Nice win for Bard tonight, 80-60 at SUNY-Maritime.
It's '06-'07.
Is there anyone down in the NEAC that could give Fisher or Potsdam a challenge in the postseason?
Nobody from this league will be there, Bigdaddy. No auto bid and no Pool B hopes either. And even if there were, there's nobody in this league that could even beat New Paltz on their own floor.
Possibly Keystone, but I haven't actually seen them play - but they're actually out of the East Region. They're on a tear though.

Has Keystone beaten anyone of note outside the NEAC?
According to their schedule page, Keystone hasn't really beaten anybody who's all that great. The closest thing to a solid win they have is at Rowan, who is 9-6 overall and .500 in the NJAC, which means they're a decent, not great, but decent team. That's only one game though and all the rest of their victims stink. Now I'm curious though, does that gaudy record alone make Keystone a contender in weak Pool B? My guess would be no.
Keystone is, however, beating teams convincingly. I've never seen them play, but I'd love to get the chance to. It seems like Keystone, Chestnut Hill & Villa Julie are a few notches above NEAC mainstays Keuka, D'Youville & Cazenovia.
Chestnut Hill snaps Keystone's 14-game win streak 66-64 last night.
Keystone is having a nice season but I don't believe they are eligible for NCAA postseason participation yet. I read on their site that they are also members of the USCAA and joined the ECAC so they should make the post season in one of those two organizations this year if they keep winning. They have only played four teams with either winning or .500 records this year. They played Johns Hopkins and Rowan. This is the way to go from a Junior College to a four-year school and to build reputation and become competitive, play your conference schedule and then schedule a few strong programs every year to test and strengthen your team. Good luck to the Giants as the seasons go on.

As a sidenote, the Keystone women's team beat Polytechnic 89-8 in the first of the double-header for the Giants. Yes, you read that correct - 89-8, en route to going 8-0 in NEAC play.
Baptist Bible downs Keystone 84-74 on the road, dropping the Giants to 17-3 overall. That might hint at what Keystone could have done in the NCAA's if they had been eligible.
Bard takes care of Mass College of Liberal Arts, 73-71, on Drew McCormack's layup at the buzzer. In the game, Adam Turner became Bard's alltime leading scorer. He had 31 in the game, and now has 1234 for his career.
hoopla.... say it ain't so....89-8???? Aww come on ladies score a basket for Poly so they can reach double figures....
Turns out it wasn't so surprising Dirt. Keuka beat Poly 75-11 and 69-10 this season. Looks like a rough season for Poly.

D3hoops Fan's (Poster's) Top 25 Poll next year?
Attn:
I am currently thinking about running a fan's poll for the Top 25 starting next season (may not have a poll until the new year, to avoid previous year's bias, among other things). I am looking for posters who are knowledgeable not only about their teams, but about their conference and even other conferences, and having a familiarity about other regions as well. Obviously, there will be some bias towards the teams you know, but it is very important to become familiar with other teams from other regions of the nation. Though this is a Top 25 poll for fun, it is important to take it seriously and not just vote your team #1 just for the sake of it. I also ask that you not miss sending in your ballots any week. It's not a pick em league where you simply go 0-25 for the week! Ballots would be submitted by Sunday night/early Monday morning, prior to the official D3Hoops poll coming out. This poll would be strictly independent of the official poll.
If you are interested, feel you qualify, and are willing to take this seriously, to a point, please email me to show your interest. Include in the subject line: Poster's Poll, or something like that. Also include your handle, since I most likely won't know your handle from your real name (email address), the conference/team and region you would "represent". I'd like to get at least one poster from each region.
Thanks.
does anyone from this conference write on this page or what? On Tuesday VJC beat a team by 50, yes 50!!!!
GOOD LUCK Villa Julie on Thursday, make us alum proud.

Well, ladies and gents, a new seasonal year is upon us, and it's time to once more direct our attention to the hardwood. I, for one, never stopped looking. Not the point. Anyway, what is the point is that this will be the innaugural year of NEAC sports and is the beginning of an exciting chapter in all the participating school's histories. The soccer, cross country and other fall seasons have already begun, but let's just jump straight to the winter of hoops that lies ahead of us. As my name might imply, I'm minorly biased towards Bard basketball because despite the bong using hackey sack kicking priorly mentioned, the school is great as are the kids on the teams there. It takes determination and self confidence to participate in athletics when the Princeton Review cites your school as one of the least athletically supportive colleges or universities in the nation. The raptors had a lackluster season last year which was both impressively and surprisingly capped by the school's first ever HVMAC tourney championship, and they look to improve upon that in the first voyage into official NEAC ball. After developing chemistry and overcoming various injuries last year, they're poised to make a splash in the coming year.
According to the team schedule Keuka will be playing Hobart again this season. Also of note, KC will be taking on DI Cornell in January. Junior's Corey Edwards and Todd Lincoln (all-NEAC in '04) will team up with seniors Hanif Davis and Josh Whyte to create a very dangerous squad. However, something is lacking from this team, always has and always will. They start out slow, and don't know how to play to win-rather seem to be coached like they don't want to lose. Tough spot to be in. I pick them to finish 3rd in this still weak conference.
It's tough to criticize KC's usual slow start when its a school hampered by its own doing. The college requires that all students participate in a Field Period, or internship, each winter break which runs anywhere from 4-7 weeks long (including the players). They generally only have 4-5 games under their belt by the break and then they play virtually all of their games over the next 6 weeks on the road - they might have one home game over the break and that'll be in front of an empty house (more or less a neutral site) because the students are on break.
Every year the Storm's schedule is backloaded with home games so that the team will have the student body at the games. To start the season out with about 13 of your first 16 games on the road is tough to ask of any program.
KC's slow start every year may have something to do with the scheduling. But a bigger problem is the fact they are a LOW DIII that cannot recruit against or compete with the DIII's in upstate NY that they play against.
Word on the street is that KC has a 6'10" transfer that tried to make it in the higher levels but didnt have the heart, work ethic, or desire to be a student...Anyone have an update?????
If they have any size to go with the athletic Davis and the good guard combo that they have they could be tough???
Whats the word with the NEAC teams. Anybody got any news on any of the teams. Well Keuka could be good with that 6' 10 dude. Reagan was the heart and soul of that team losing him could hurt them alittle bit. Well being near caz i heard a few things about them. I guess they are going to be young having gotten alot of recruits to go to caz.
Well, the DIII News preseason rankings are out. They have Keystone first, Villa Julie second and Bard third. Preseason Player of the Year is Adam Turner of the Raptors. I am excited to see if Bard can upset expectations a little bit and get that automatic bid- it doesn't seem that far out of reach.
there's no automatic bid this year Howard.
In that case, getting the automatic bid will be considerably harder. I wonder however, with the team total up to 59, if the winner of the NEAC does get in this year... I suppose time will tell.
I would say it's probably possible, but the winner of the league would have to probably go at least 21-6 and have a comparably in-region record. Quality of Wins is likely to be low. Villa Julie's was 8.2, and they were 14-6 in-region, the best the NEAC had.
Pat,
What did Keystone finish last year? Were they not on top of the NEAC standings? It's been awhile...
Interesting stuff! Looking at the Bard schedule, 21 of the 25 games are in-region- and the two Keystone games are not among them! Even better, the Villa Julie game is at the friendly confines of Stevenson Gymnasium. So tell me, given the strength of Bard's schedule this year, what do you think is a realistic mark to shoot for to be NCAA-Bound? Would 20-5, 18-3 get it done, you think?
Looking at the schedule, I am sure Mt. St. Mary's will be tough, despite losing 3 of 5 starters. We haven't beaten Vassar in a while, though this is clearly our best chance to do so in quite some time. (And what a pleasure it would be- that campus will go crazy.) We also had all kinds of problems with Baptist Bible last year- I am hopeful that this year will be different, especially since we have them home and home.
Chestnut Hill brings back Greer, which will make them dangerous- it will be interesting to see if/how Collin Orcutt guards him (that one-on-one matchup alone will make that game interesting).
Frankly, it doesn't seem to me that anyone can have the slightest idea what will happen in the NEAC this year, given all the new teams and very little precedent to go on. I feel like a tremendous amount has to go right for Bard to make it to the NCAAs- especially with no automatic bid and lack of tradition with the committee (I don't think I'm shocking anyone by saying that this would be the Raptors' first bid).
But that Bard is merely in position to compete for this, and brings quite a bit of talent to the table to do so, is thrilling to someone who has certainly been through bad times with the program. And I really don't feel like the program, despite its strides, has had everything, or even close to everything, go right with this talented group (injuries, academic casualties, etc.) Such is the magic of October in college basketball- everything seems possible.
hooplafan, since Keystone is not a full Division III member, it doesn't really pertain to a conversation about playoff bids.
well, practices have begun, and teams are beginning to get a feel of what they might have to offer. Bard is going to have a couple of scrimmages before they head to NH for the Rivier tip-off tourney. The first is Adirondack community college, whom Bard defeated last year with an arguably deeper bench than this year, however, trading bodies for more minutes for experienced players may not be a bad shift. As for their other scrimmage, they will face Castleton State College. An NCAA playoff team two years removed now, Castleton will be an interesting preseason match-up for the raptors. I'll keep anyone who might care posted.
Pat Coleman or other knowledgeable fans, as the North Eastern AC stands now, when can the conference anticipate a full Pool A bid? 2006-07?
Thanks! :)
We are told by our representatives at the NCAA that we are eligible for the bid in 2006-07. Hopefully all will go well.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up since it has not been posted yet. 2004 -05 First team all conference NEAC player Wade Henninger, from Villa Julie, is playing pro ball in England for the Manchester Magic. Seems to be doing very well, is one of the teams leading scorers so far this season. Good luck Wade, and congrats to VJC for producing its first professional basketball player.
DIII News NEAC Preseason Player of the Year Adam Turner and the Bard Raptors return to action tonight against Anna Maria College at 8 p.m. It should be a good measure of how the Raptors have grown- last season, Bard fell to Anna Maria, 57-40.

Bard split a pair of weekend games at Rivier's tournament this weekend. The Raptors defeated Anna Maria 65-54 on Saturday, but fell to the hosts 83-64 on Sunday. Rivier's 7 for 10 3-point shooting in the first half was the difference. Adam Turner and Andrew McCormack were named to the All-Tourney team, with Adam scoring 28 points in the opener. Next up- our archrivals: Vassar. I am hopeful Bard can break the losing streak against the Brewers.
Also, Keuka picked up a nice non-conference win Sunday at local rival Hobart, 73-58. The Storm held the Statesmen to 30% shooting from the floor and forced 20 turnovers in the win. The Storm also showed great balance offensively getting all five starters into double-figures: Corey Edwards (19), Josh Whyte (13), Todd Lincoln (13), Steve Willson (12), Hanif Davis (10). Davis also had 12 rebounds, while Lincoln had 6 assists and 4 steals. Edwards chipped in 5 assists as well.
Hobart (1-1) led 26-24 at the break, but Keuka (1-0) shot better than 53% from the field in the second half to pull away. Next up for the Storm is a rekindled rivalry game with former NEAC member, now AMCC rep Hilbert.
Vassar press release from last night's game against Bard.
Brazell, Avitabile & Kieffer In Double Figures, VC Defeats Bard
NEW PALTZ, NY (November 22, 2005) -- Sophomore forward Tyson Brazell scored a career-high 17 points and both sophomore forward Lawrence Avitabile and junior center William Kieffer posted double-doubles, as Vassar's men's basketball team defeated Bard College, 69-52, in the opening round of the Mid-Hudson Shootout at SUNY New Paltz Tuesday night.
The Brewers (3-0), who are the defending champions of the Shootout, will play the winner of the SUNY New Paltz-Mt. St. Mary's game next Tuesday, November 30 at New Paltz. Prior to that game, Vassar plays Connecticut College on the road this Sunday, November 27 at 3:00 pm.
Beside's Brazell's (Salt Lake City, UT/ Waterford School) 17-point, 5 rebound performance, which also included a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, Vassar got 16 points and 11 rebounds from Avitabile (Southington, CT/Southington), the Liberty League Performer of the Week. Kieffer (Chappaqua, NY/ Horace Greely) added 13 points, 13 rebounds and a team-high six assists for his second consecutive game with a double-double. He had 13 points and 10 rebounds against Elms College in the championship game of the VC Invitational.
Vassar held a 39-29 lead at intermission and outscored Bard 30-23 ini the second half. The Brewers held a decided edge in rebounding with a 59-24 margin. Junior forward Evan Hannay (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) had a career-high 8 boards on the night. Vassar helped kept Bard at bay with a 16-for-19 (84.2 percent) outing from the free throw line.
Bard had two players score in double figures, Josef Waldense with 14 points and Colin Oroutt also had 14 points. Waldense added a team-high 8 rebounds.

After defeating Albany College of Pharmacy (far from being any competition) Keuka is a strong 4-0. Lincoln, Edwards, Whyte, and Davis have been caring the team-nobody else seems to be playing any minutes. In a sub par league they should be enough to challenge for the conference title
I was at the 107-62 win last night by Keuka and I must say that's the most athletic Keuka team I've seen in quite awhile. There's a lot of youth on that team as well, which bodes well for the future. And there was little offensive dropoff as the bench entered the game - the defensive pressure may have even picked up a notch. Granted, it was a big win against a weak opponent. A nice confidence booster for the younger guys on the team though.

Could have been much worse. Starters for VJC barely played the second half. All 12 players played at least 8 minutes.
Does anyone know what the record is for most players from one team scoring in a game? All 17 players that dressed for Keuka Monday night scored. I'm assuming there has to be somone who's had more at some point in time. Maybe a Grinnell-type school?
CUA 67
VJC 59
Game was tied at 53 with 5 minutes to play. Anthony Fitzgerald shoots 9/12, scoring 20 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Shane Sowden led CUA with 18 points and 9 rebounds.
Keuka dropped its first game of the season, and now have a tough weekend game vs. Chestnut Hill. My guess is that if they can get some home cooking (which they never do), and then stay within 20 points of Cornell, they can potentially get a 6 or 7 seed going into the Chase. A tournament that George Wunder currently holds a record of dismay (having never won a game in the Chase). Another prediction. If Wunder can finally get a win in the Chase he will get another job offer at the end of the season
So Pat, is this VJC joining the new conference a done deal?
Villa Julie isn't joining the new conference, it's joining the CAC. And yes, we posted on the site last night, it's a done deal.
Keuka trails D-I Cornell 33-28 at the half tonight.
Keuka falls 78-52 tonight to Cornell as the Big Red open the second half on a 14-0 run. Press release & box below.

Congrats to Villa Julie's Anthony Fitzgerald, who reached 2,000 career points tonight.
Villa Julie got the NCAA at-large bid, Pool B. They play Baruch friday. Looks rough, not too good.
Keuka made the ECAC TNMT and plays Potsdam tonight
Don't know much about Villa Julie, but I've seen Baruch and they aren't as good as their record indicates. Their league is pretty weak.
Well I don't think we can say the NEAC is the strongest either. Is there an automatic bid next year? I heard there's talk. Congrats to Villa Julie on the upset with Baruch though, they didn't even win the CUNY I noticed.
William Patterson tonight, who absolutely rocked scranton last night.
Also congrats Fitzgerald once again who grabbed 25 boards for last nights win.
Congrats to VJC on a great season, and congrats to Fitz who should finish the season on one of the all-american teams (i'm guessing 2nd). He has made a name for him self after four great seasons at VJC. He should rank as one of the best post players to play DIII. His stats were so consistant year after year. He scored over 2000 points and grabbed almost 1500 rebounds. It was nice for him to finish up his senior season playing in the NCAA tournament, the schools first trip to th tourny.
Also congrats to the rest of VJC's team and their coaches. Coach Adams has hung in there through the tough times and has really turned things around the last few seasons. Once again congrats on a great season VJC, and congrats to Fitz on a hell of a career.
any word on that Keuka game?
What do we think about the NEAC next year? VJC shouldn't be the same.
Keuka lost to Potsdam, 81-69, on the road. They finished 16-10 this year. And for whoever asked above, the NEAC is expected to garner an automatic bid beginning next season.
for those interested. The NEAC has a new & improved look to its web site, along with a new logo.

Hooplafan, I am looking forward to a great year from a pair of seniors at Keuka College. Both Edwards and Lincoln should pass the 1000 point mark, and they will battle all year to see who holds the 3-point shooting record.

This conference would be a good candidate for D3Scoreboard.com's services.
So who are the preseason favorites? How much does Villa Julie bring back? Anyone have nominations for preseason player of the year? A little over two weeks until Bard makes one last charge through the NEAC...
Villa Julie 71
York College (PA 69
York, PA- The Mustangs traveled to York College for their first match of the season. The Mustangs were trailing behind the Spartans at the end of the first half 35-29. In the second half, the Mustangs came back to tie the game with only 8 seconds left. After two successful free-throws by Phillip Williams (District Heights,MD/Bishop McNamara), the Mustangs took the lead and the eventual win, 71-69.
Five of the Mustangs earned double-figures. Chris Warren (Largo, MD/Bishop McNamara), Kerry Dugan (Sparks, MD/Hereford), and Greg Woody (Baltimore, MD/Mt. St. Joseph's) earned 12 points each while Jason Lambert (Bloomfield, CT/Kingswood Oxford) had 11 and Williams had 10. Senior Steven Segears (Lanham, MD/St. Johns College H.S) contributed 12 rebounds.
With a full team effort, the Mustangs begin their season with a 1-0 record. The Mustangs return to the court on November 21 as they compete in the Pride of Maryland Tournament at Salisbury University.
Yorks new gym seems like a great place to play, I'm sure the players knees were not hurting as much as they are used to after playing a game a York. Boy that old kitchen floor could put a hurting on ya!!
Good game by both teams. Both shot poorly from the feild, but I'm sure opening night jitters in front of a packed crowd may have had something to do with that. I really thought VJC could have pulled away early (they were up by 6 or 7 before York came back to take a 6 point halftime lead) but VJC's point guard, Chris Warren, got into some foul trouble. Seemed like everytime he came back in he hit a big three and picked up a foul. HE CAN FLAT OUT SHOOT THE BALL!!!!!
York shot a lot of free throws, especially in the first half (BRICKS), but they couldn't connect. VJC hung in there late and made a great run on the road and came away with a sweet victory. Good job VJC and good luck defending your title this week in the D3 Maryland tournament.
What does the NEAC look like for 06 07
Who is leaving and why?
What team(s) is/are coming on to keep the league up?
I for one believe that basketball games at this level are won by those who have the best guards. It is always nice to have a pretty good post player, but lets be honest, there are not enough good post players at this level.
With that said, I like Keuka a little bit. Their guards are upper classman and have been playing a lot of minutes throughout their careers. They are also getting solid time from the local boy--Steve Willson, in the post. Who knew?
I am happy to see Brian Miller back in D'Youville, altough I bet the rest of the conference isn't. It will take him two or three years to re-build that program. But in his first five years there he won two conference titles, a COY award, etc... He will get the job done.
As for other teams, I do not get to see many of the other teams. Somebody else's turn...
Well, I'm certainly jealous of teams with tall post players this year. Bard's got a good young team though- best guard play I've seen from them, and everyone is back next year. When they are hitting their outside shots, they are tough. Coach Wood needs to bring in some interior players for next year, and I like that the perimeter players will be NEAC-tested in time for the move to the Skyline. It's a year to consolidate gains for Bard- the championships will and have come in the other NEAC sports this season. But the Raptors are awfully fun to watch.
Bard lost to a team that, before that game, had lost 207 straight games. Yes, you read that correctly. Wow.
207 in a row against D-III teams. 59 in a row overall.
The Raptors are just too vertically challenged this year to compete on the interior. Coach Wood knows he needs to grab some inside players- when you're getting outrebounded like Bard is this year, you have to be perfect from the perimeter to win. Notice that Cal Tech's leading scorer was 6-7. Bard simply didn't have anyone to matchup with him- and I don't care how quickly you double that guy, of both players doubling him are 6-2, he's going to score when he gets the ball.
Most programs would struggle after losing 4 starters, including the all-time leading scorer, assist man and blocks leader (three separate players, by the way). Let's see where they are next year, with a little experience and some incoming big men.
I didn't realize we were evaluating the whole season based on one game. Last night, for instance, Bard lost a heartbreaker, 75-74 to SUNY-Purchase on a missed last-second shot. The Raptors shot 48% for the game, but simply couldn't stop Purchase's interior game, particularly in the second half. They shot 8-26 from 3, about their season average, and 43% 3-point shooter Ray Arocho fouled out just before the last posession, keeping him from taking the shot.
The Cal Tech game was clearly a fluke, as they simply haven't made it a habit of getting blown out, even by better teams than Cal Tech (nearly half of their games have been decided by single digits). Also, however, even one big body inside to defend Purchase's interior players, and Bard wins by 10-15 points- Purchase shot 84% in the second half!
But based on your one game analysis, I have also concluded that 1985 Villanova had much more talent than 1985 Georgetown, the U.S. was obviously better at hockey in 1980 than the Soviet Union, and David did nothing more against Goliath than cover the spread.
Bard wins at Poly, 73-57, behind 4 in double figures. Finished the game on a 60-26 run. Won't be the last one they win, either...
It better not be Bard's last, considering that it's the NEAC. Is there a Pool A bid this year for this embarrassing collection of walking dead bodies (in which Bard is still just 1-3)? I hope not but I thought I read somewhere that there is.
Raptormania, even speaking as tongue-in-cheek as I will hope for your sake you were, the words "Bard" and "Goliath" don't belong in the same book, let alone the same sentence. Man alive, I can't even imagine how bad things are gonna get when these guys hit the Skyline.
I'm glad you can see the difference between Goliath, who has never won at Polytechnic, and Bard, which won at Polytechnic on Saturday.
Truth be told, I'm glad they have a chance to retool this year before heading to the Skyline. But please- even with no improvement, they'll be in the Skyline with Purchase, who they just lost to by 1 point, and Poly, who they just beat by 16 away. They topped Maritime by 20 at Maritime the last time they played there. At worst, they'll be far from certain doormats- and that's without any infusion of talent for next year.
Bard wins again. 64-53 over D'Youville. Since returning from the west coast, the Raptors are 2-3, with two losses by 1 and 4 points. Glad to see them bouncing back like this.
I think it's pretty safe to say that Bard is not a contender in this conference.
What I'm impressed with right now is Chestnut Hill who seems to be owning the conference. Though it looked like VJC would take storm again this year after they beat CHC early in the year (and beat Bard by 35) CHC matched well against and fought down VJC second time around. Chestnut Hill sits at the top of the South Division and beat Baptist Bible by 17 who is first in the North. I think they could take it all.

Chestnut Hill's Greer was first team NEAC last year and is an outstanding player. It's no question that this kid has talent. The team's younger guards are also very very quick. Their post players also seem to be able to match up against any in the conference, but you're right there's not much to it.

The Mustangs are headed back to the NCAA tournament. And a big thank you to D3Hoops (specifically Gordon and Dave) for doing the game today. I hope you guys enjoyed NEAC basketball. What a great, hard fought game by both teams.
Good luck to Villa Julie- show the committee the ludicrousness of admitting just one team from the NEAC. You can't spell "Complete and accurate breakdown of Division III teams in a tournament bracket" without "NEAC."

Hello NEAC ladies and gentlemen, we're collecting previews for each team in the tourney on one of the multiregional boards. If I get them by Friday I may even be able to stick them in one document for people to peruse. A fun little tourney resource of sorts. Would someone here be willing to do one for Villa Julie please? Thanks much!

April,
Unfortunately, Bard only played Villa Julie once, and on the road, so I don't feel qualified to write them up. However, the Villa Julie SID does lurk here- I'd recommend you shoot him a quick e-mail.

As an avid fan, I appreciate the work they already do so much, and I know they work endless hours with little appreciation. So, well, that would be lovely, but I'd feel bad asking an SID to do something in addition to what they are already doing! On the other hand, it would really stink for Villa Julie to be one of the few schools not represented!!! :( If he volunteers to do it... now, that's a whole different story. ;)

Actually, I think that any write-up done by Raptormania would be of utmost quality and would provide a panache that the previous write-ups have lacked.
I hope that you will re-consider.
Thanking you in advance... :)
"I hope that you will re-consider."
Tell you what, Ralph- should any other teams from the Skyline Conference make the NCAA tournament next year with an at-large bid, I will write them up. I thank you as always for the compliment- you are to D3Hoops.com what former Bard standout Michael Mandlin was to college basketball in 2000-2001.
How do teams look for next year? Anybody have an idea on how some of the teams are doing Recruiting wise?
I'm not sure about everyone, but I believe D'Youville has a bunch of newcomers (they need them after last year's showing!). I have heard there are several JUCO's - a few from ECC and NCCC - along with some solid frosh coming in. The program is in a similar situation as when Coach Miller took it over the first time. They will get it going again before too long.
Ps - one of the JUCO's was a former DI signee and one of the top scorers in WNY High School history?? Can you guess who it might be?
I believe it, I like Coach Miller I think he did a good job with that team when he was their the first time. He brought in some good players and won, so i believe he can do it again.
I heard BBC has been working hard all over the country to bring in even better guys to add onto an already good roster that he has.
Keuka added a 6'2' guard/ small foward from the rochester area who is pretty good. Tough play who knows how to score so that is good for George who lost his best two players in lincoln and edwards.
Keystone might not do to well this off-season with the departure of there head coach. He was a great coach and brought in great athletes.
Caz I heard has a real big kid coming in and some transfers and a couple 6'1', 6'2' kids.....I guess they won't be a team with 12 dudes under 5'11" anymore...lol.....it doesn't matter they still won't be any good.
Any body know about any other team
Baptist Bible had a great team last year and returns almost everyone I believe. I saw them when they came to Buffalo and they were tough.
Keuka lost almost their entire starting lineup, so it might be rebuilding time for them. Caz always plays a fast style and is either hot or cold. They could beat good teams by 30 or lose to bad teams by 40. You never know what you could get with them.
Keystone losing their coach, I read that here on D3hoops, could hurt them in recruiting. But I think the one assistant did most of the coaching last year anyway as the head guy was on crutches behind the bench.
BBC is always good. Great coach and he always finds great players.
THe assistant from Keystone may have walked up and down the side line during games but it was Marc Smith who ran the show. He controled the team and ran practices. He hurt his food because he practices with the players to work them harder. I think if their assistant takes over then they might be hurting.
Ya Keuka will have a tough time.
PSU-Berks might be good because they have Joe Askew who is unbelievable, and if they ever get decent guys to play with that kid they will win.
Caz is a run and gun team. they got good scores, can't play much Defense. they can beat alot of teams but only if there on. And they will have some better kids coming in this year to help them so they might be tough to beat.
This league is changing, as some of the powers are leaving the conference (Villa Julie and Chestnut Hill). I believe some of the NYC-area schools are leaving also. Not sure if they have added anyone.
I like what D'Youville has coming in (remember I asked about the JUCO player going there who was one of the top HS scorers - that would be Greg French who won state titles with Traditional and was a region III player of the year at Erie CC). They have a long way to go, but with French and a couple of the other guys going there I know of they should be a contender for the title. Keuka will be rebuilding, Caz is up and down, BBC is always tough, Keystone has a new coach, Berks is a 1-man show. The Spartans should be a major player in this league next year.

http://www.d3hoops.com/dailydose/2006/09/07/more-conference-dominoes-fall/
when did French play at Erie CC?????????????
He played at Erie two years ago. He still has two years of eligibility left. He originally signed with URI out of high school but forced to go the JUCO route. Still lives in B-Lo and wants to continue playing. Another of his backcourt teammates at ECC, Derrick Ware, will also be joining him at D'Youville. With Kowalski and Butler returning in the paint, along with these guards and a couple more recruits Miller has coming in, I think they will be fun to watch again.
I used to watch them play when they had players like Sanquin Starks and Justin Cooke before the NEAC actually started. They were always very athletic and played at a fast pace. It looks like that is the way they will play again based on the athletes they have coming in next year.
bball fan your right on. BBC is very well coached. As a former coach in the conference I have a lot of respect for the BBC coach.
And coach Smith at Keystone was also an excellant coach. Keystone is in some trouble now that he left.
Anyone know who will be the next coach at Keystone?
What happened to him after ECC? If he is so good why didn't someone else grab him.
I think their assistant coach will take over the job, only because he did do alot of stuff for the team because Marc Smith was hurt most of the year.
Ya i know not to many people think highly of the NEAC but some of the teams are starting to come around. Keystone and BBC can compete with alot of programs when it comes to basketball and we know how good Keystone is at baseball(beat Cortland). Keuka can usually play with schools. With Coach Miller back at D'youville you know they will compete once he brings in his kind of kids. And Caz is starting to come around and beating teams. And i believe the other teams will start to come around like PSU-Berks because of the area their in they can get some good athletes, i mean look at Joe Askew, if you get a chance you should watch that kid, he can score any way he wants. So just give it some time and this league will be able to compete with the other leagues in New York specialy since they just got rid of the schools at the bottom who stink(Poly, Bard, Pusrchase).
bballfan44,
After ECC French had some family issues to deal with. He was going to walk-on at Canisius when Miller was there, but when he returned to DYC it seemed like a good fit for him to get back on the court. He is a terror in the highly-competitive men's leagues around the city I play in. I can tell you this, there will not be a better guard combination in this league than Greg French and Derrick Ware. French can score at will and Ware is the ultimate handle who sees the floor well. Both are solid team players. They should kill it at this level. I know Coach Miller has some other guys coming in to to help their surrounding cast. That is why I think D'Youville will be really tough to handle next year if everyone stays on board.
You are right about the league in general. Some up-and-coming programs. Keuka is always in the mix, BBC has a tradition of good teams and Caz is streaky enough that when they get hot they can beat anyone. Being from Buffalo, I'm just glad DYC is getting back on track so I have some better games to watch during the cold winter months up here!
Well WNYHoops, i hope your right about those to guards so it will make games better in the NEAC next year because DYC had a tough time last year. But we will see2 years off could put a little rust on him plus you never know what shape he will be in, he might be in good physical shape but what about conditioning, teams like keystone, bbc and caz love to run all day. But if they are as good as you say they are DYC can be good. I am a big fan of Kowliski(not sure how to spell it). Big Kid, can take the ball to the hole and can take you in the post.
well its good to see that DYC is getting better, I know some of the kids caz has coming in so they will be better then last year. Keuke last some key guards but the freshman they are getting I have checked out and they seem like they can be better then the guys they lost. I think next year will be a good year for the NEAC
With all respect bballfan44, I can't imagine Caz being able to replace their little point guard Wynans. That kid made them tick! Without him on the floor sharing the ball and getting it to the right spots, they struggled. And I don't know if Keuka will be able to replace someone like Lincoln with a frosh. He played nearly every minute of every game and also ran the show. Guards dominate at this level, and point guards in particular. Losing senior leaders and handles like these two might leave both in a rebuilding mode. That is why I am so high on DYC. They have proven guards coming in next year with legitimate experience and track records. Trust me when I say French is in great game shape. If teams want to play fast against the Spartans next year they are playing right into their strengths. DYC will be dynomite in the open court if everyone shows up to campus who says they are coming (and that is always an issue once financial aid packages are sent out!). Think of the Phoenix Suns at the DIII level and that is how I picture them playing.
I know what you mean, Winans is a personal friend of mine and I have known him since he was averaging 30 points agame at afton high school. It will be tough to replace him, but they do have a freshman point guard coming in who can do everything winans can but just not as quick.
And your right lincoln was good but the new kid coming in from HF-L is good, you should look for him and u will notice that during his senior year he will be better then Lincoln.
Well your guards may be able to run and so can the big man Kowalski, but i am not sure about some over the other guys, i am not sure about butler, he didn't play against caz when i saw them play. but i hope they can run and gun, cause thats the still i like to watch.
WNY hoops lets not get carried away with DYU . They wont be like the suns and they wont be contending for the conference title. I used to coach in the conference so I am not a fan just saying this stuff. DYU may be better but not that good. They were 3-13 last year. And who are these guards with legitimate experience and track records. They had no one in the top ten in assists, assists to turnover ratio, steals or threes. If your a good guard in any conference you will be in the top ten in your conference in one of those areas or lead a winning team and no one at DYU has.
I hear caz is getting JV squad for next year.....anybody else hear that????
millikin 33,
I do believe DYC will compete for the title BECAUSE I agree with everything you just posted. They were 3-13 last year and the guards on that team were horrible. They did not have anyone in the top 30 in any statistical category ... BUT NONE OF THOSE GUYS WILL EVEN BE ON THE ROSTER NEXT YEAR! The team last year was leftovers from the previous coach who allowed the program to go down the tubes. I would be surprised if more that 3 guys from last year are even on the team, and nobody but Kowalski and Butler will see any time. It is an entire new team with a lot more talent. Again, this is only word on the street and knowledge of guys who say they are going to school there next year. If you are talking about stats, Kowalski was in the top 6 in 5 different offensive categories last year. Imagine how he will do with someone who can actually get the ball down the floor to him. I'm not one to go big with predictions either, but I can tell you DYC will be much better than last year and should content for the NEAC title in 07-08.
And it is great to hear Caz might have JV. Feeder programs for the varsity can only help the program as a whole. They must be bringing in a lot of recuits to field a team of JC's. That is normally done at the larger state schools or Fisher.
well thats what caz wants to do they want to work their way to being one of the big programs, and they think JV is the first step towards that. And they brought in 8 guys this year, and the word is they already have 9 for this coming year.
Keystone new head coach is Jason Leone. He has served as the assistant coach at D2 Mercyhurst College for the past four years where the team went 61-50 and 37-20 the last two years. He was also an assistant at Clarkson Univerity. He played two years at Lafayette and then transfered and played at U of R.
Sounds like they got themselves a good guy. He seems like he might now what he is doing any he is taking over a very talented team. So thats good for keystone and the NEAC.
Well it looks like the NEAC is getting smaller. Keyston and PBU will be joing the PAC for the 2008-2009 school year. That just leaves the NEAC with the original 3 Keuka, Cazenovia, D'youville and then Wells, BBC, PSU-Berks, PSU- Harrisburg, and Wilson who is an all girls school. The league started to show improvement when it went to a 12 team league but is not falling apart.

I was looking for potential candidates to join.
Have you heard about any overtures towards Point Park, Lancaster Bible College PA, SUNY-Cobleskill or even St Joseph's New York?
As for women, the AWCC will disband. The team that I do not recall joining another conference is Trinity DC. That would preserve the women's AQ if they join, because Wells doesn't play basketball.
I think we should refer to that school as St. Joe's (Brooklyn) for clarity's sake.
SJC-Brooklyn would be a good NEAC candidate, but also a good Skyline candidate. And with apologies to the AWCC, Trinity is not in a position to be a member of a real conference. That department has a lot of work to do.
However ... in the new NEAC Trinity won't be far out of step. It will be a haul geographically, though.
I reviewed the Wells College website.
I see Men's soccer (Fall). Men's Lacrosse becomes varsity in Spring 2008. I see 2 men on the Swimming team. (That covers the winter requirement).
There were no men pictured on the 2006 Wells Cross Country team.
The women's sports are: Cross country, Soccer, Tennis and Field Hockey in the Fall; Swimming in the Winter; Lacrosse and Softball in the Spring.
It seems that Wells needs to add 2 men's sports. Basketball (Men's and Women's) and Baseball seem to be the most strategic additions that Wells can make for the well-being of the NEAC. After all, they will need 5 men's teams, one in each season.
Cross-country would be cheapest, but IMHO, basketball and baseball are most important to the NEAC.
One other thing that we saw was the value to a conference to ask a college to join. Kinda like the junior high school dance...as soon as someone gets asked to dance, then his/her dance card fills up.
As noted above, the original 3 (Cazenovia, D'Youville and Keuka) cobbled a 12 member conference out of some independents. Those indepedents who had no home now have parlayed their NEAC membership in (shall we say) an "upwardly mobile" fashion to the ranks of the PnAC, the Skyline and the CAC!
Well i know Wells will be adding basketball for the 2008-2009 season.
Any school added would be nice because a league looks better when it is bigger, but Trinity would be a long travel like you said.
Lancaster Bible might be a possiablity since BBC is already in the league and I know Caz has played them in the past.
Well as an alumni from caz i hope they find some teams to join the league.
bballfan44,
Let me welcome you to the boards. I realize that you registered back in 2004, but your continued contributions will help spark interest.
Please post any hyperlinks to news releases and game updates this fall and winter.
I really hope that the NEAC survives. The conference model of D3 has done much to improve the student-athlete experience. I think that the D3 experience is the most appropriate model in American athletics and especially collegiate athletics.
Let me be candid. The value of the NEAC is to provide peer institutions for the athletic experience. As the NEAC matures, I believe that the member institutions will also improve the quality of the student-athlete experience. The leadership of the member institutions will be critical in its success. I think that the Presidents of the NEAC may actually be doing a better job in growing and adapting with the changes in the NEAC than possibly any other conference in D3. I wish them vision and luck.
Well thank you Mr. Turner,
I am just a big basketball fan, and I love the college game. I will def. be talking on the board everday from here on out.
Talking with someone in the NEAC they know they are losing some teams this year and next year but they are alrady searching for schools to take their place to keep the leageu big plus keep the Automatic Bids, because those bids will help the team grow because it is a big recruiting tool.
Anybody got any word on recruits for the NEAC. I heard caz got Toombs. He played Class D and was named to the all-state 1st team this past year. He is a guard, they say he can score at will, but is alittle weak, hopefully he bulks up.
Being from Buffalo, I can just tell you where I have heard some of the local guys are going ... not all to the NEAC obviously.
Medaille got a bunch of new players in. I heard a couple guys from Fairport in Rochester (one a big guy like 6-6 and wide), but they also landed Milicki from Pioneer and Adrian Wood from Will South.
Hilbert got a little guard from the southern tier who was 1st team all-state in Class D.
Kendrick, the long-range bomber from Jamestown HS is going to Nazareth.
D'Youville got Shane Canahai, the all-time leading scorer at Starpoint who has an old-school game, and DeJuan Hardy from Riverside, a big upside point who really sees the floor and plays strong but inconsistent. They also have at least 4 JUCO transfers, including Greg French and Derrick Ware from ECC who will combine for a great backcourt in the NEAC.
Buff State landed at least a couple city kids I am aware of. John Whitlock and Vic Arroyo, both of Lafayette, will play for the Bengals. Fredonia got Julius Bryant from Hutch-Tech.
And I don't know if you have heard of Jonny Flynn from Niagara Falls???!?? But he will be running the show at Syracuse next year!!
Yes i know who Flynn is, being from the Syracuse area and being an Orange fan i know who he is.
Well it sounds like the teams in Buffalo made out pretty good with some of their recruits. To bad Medialle and Hilbert don't join the NEAC so you guys could have a battle of Buffalo, just like it use to be when it was the original NEAC made up of Hilbert, Medialle, D'Youville, Keuka, and Cazenovia.
Medaille and Hilbert may be better fits for the NEAC then the conference they currently play in. All those teams are from PA. At least in the NEAC you have a little NY connection with Keuka, DYC and Caz along with Wells just coming in.
The schools still all play each other non-conference ... but it just is not the same. Medaille has really stepped up its efforts, but their indoor facility is very small and like DYC they have no outdoor fields. Hilbert has the space, but their school only offers like 8 majors ... so they are limited that way. But you are right, it would be great to see all three back together in the same conference to foster those old rivalries.
Early perdictions for next season:
1- BBC
2- Cazenovia
3- Keystone
4- D'youville
5- Keuka
6- Penn. St-Berks
7- PBU
You forgot Penn State-Harrisburg as the 8th team. But I do like where you are going with the predictions. My 2-cents:
1) BBC
2) DYC
3) Caz
4) PBU
5) Keystone
6) Keuka
7) Penn State - Berks
8) Penn State-Harrisburg
Baptist Bible, on paper, is the favorite on this first day of summer. They have virtually their entire team returning that was one of the top 4 teams last year in a tougher league. DYC will be much improved ... enough to contend?? That will depend on how their talented newcomers come together. As I stated before, I think they have the talent to get it done. Caz could beat anyone on any day, but also loose to anyone too. They are so up and down, but have to be scary for opposing coaches. But I have a feeling they will really miss their little point guard Winans. PBU has probably the top forward in the league, but lost their perimeter shooter. Keuka is in total rebuilding mode but always competes. Keystone is unknown with a new coach. How many of the guys remain on the squad?? They have a great backcourt, but a new system. Berks has one good player and not much else. Harrisburg struggled in the league they were in last year which is below the NEAC.
Your right about PBU they do have one of the best forwards in the league but that is about all they have......their is no way they will be better then Keystone and Keuka, and I think DYC has a better big men then PBU does. Well Keuka maybe look like their in a rebuilding year but you might be surprised when they do good next year but I won't be. They have some good kids coming in and even two transfers that will be big time threats....And your right about Caz, they can beat any one on any day. They do i think have the second best player in the league behind Askew of course. And I think Berks will do better then you think because Askew is that good to where they will win plenty of games just because of him.....but we have a long time before we find all this stuff out....can't come soon enough
I'm not really sold on Askew as the "best player in the league." Looking at his stats, he does score a lot of points, but takes a ton of shots to get them. He is a slashing type player who you can control if you force him to take a jump shots. I think teams will be able to focus their defense on him since he does not have a lot running with him.
And who do you refer to as the second best player in the league from Caz? I hope you don't mean Harris. Too 1 dimentional for me. Great stationary jump shooter but that is all. Make him put the ball on the floor and he has trouble.
I love talking basketball in June. And like you said, the season can't come soon enough for me. I just hope the NEAC will survive with teams shuffling conferences so much.
No i don't mean Harris, all he can do is shot three's. Yes i know he shoots alot of them but he shot 39% last year that is pretty good for a guy who shot almost 240 three's.
The guy I ment was Eric Latendress. You might not have seen him play cause he was a transfer and last year was his first year. He can do about it all. He stands at 6'1", can shot the three, take people to the hole, post up, and rebound and defend. He might not have the best numbers but i think he is an all around player. But of course if Tom Kowalskit could shot the three he could be considered as the top player.
Well hopefully the commisioner and the AD's are hard at work and looking for other teams to join in. Well they must be working on something big because BBC hasn't joined the PAC yet, and they did get an invitation to join in. So their must be something that is keeping them in the NEAC
rumor has it Wells College is fielding a Mens Basketball team slated for varsity play in 08 09
would they be in the NEAC as i believe their womens teams compete in the conference??
Perhaps not the first year out of the gate -- that would be consistent with some other schools adding men -- but eventually, sure.

sounds like an uphill battle, but not a bad way to enter your NCAA membership walking into a conference with an automatic qualifier...most new programs struggle to even find a conference.
As I understand it Wells will have a club team in 07-08 and a varsity in 08-09. I'm not even sure they have a gym on campus. The might have to play at a local high school until something is built.
The NEAC will lose both Keystone and Philly Bible after this season, but gain Wells. This conference shifting is crazy. Will it ever settle down??
It probably won't settle down anytime soon. BBC might move to the PAC league but the NEAC is trying to keep them around, the league is working in on getting more teams to join. But there might be a while before they announce anything. But all that matters is that they have enough schools to keep the automatic bid, having that bid will help the schools and the league get better.
Some of the schedules are out on each school's web pages. I see Keuka is opening at Medaille (a good test) and D'Youville is going to Buffalo State's Tournament (where I'm sure they are playing the hosts in the first round). Cazenovia also plays host to Medaille before Thanksgiving. I saw D'Youville playing in a summer league last night and newcomers looked impressive. Derrick Ware is a ball of energy at the point, and NCCC transfer Charles Walker is long and athletic on the wing. He was the best player on the floor and can score from a number of spots. Returning players looked a bit more confident with solid guys around them ... although I'm not sure how many will be on the roster once they all arrive. Kowalski was solid, but no sign of French. Coach Miller was in the stands watching. I'm sure he feels a little better about his team this season with a full year to recruit.
Welcome to PSU-Harrisburg as they begin their first year in provisional status (http://www.hbg.psu.edu/news/NCAA2006.html).
The news is Kueka lost their head coach..........
I heard that also, although Wunder is still listed on their web page. The rumor is that Tom Flood, Wunder's top assistant, is taking over the program. No idea what happend here. I felt Wunder did a great job with that program. They have been a contender the past few years ... but did face a rebuilding year this season losing 4 starters.
In other NEAC news, I watched D'Youville win a summer league Monday night. They defeated a group of former Buff State players from a few years back (Konst twins, Josh Becker, etc.) in a great 2OT game in the semifinals. Then went on to crush a team that included former UB star Darcell Williams (6-7 with skills) in the finals. Kowalski was tough on the glass and G French dominated the action in transition. Derrick Ware is a sparkplug and one of the best on-the-ball defenders you will find anywhere in this conference. Coach Miller again in the stands salivating over his team's prospects. They could be one of the most improved teams in the NATION. But then again, they were rock-bottom last year!!
With Phila Bible and Keystone leaving after this season, the NEAC MBB membership will drop to 6. Add Wells' new program to the mix and they are back to 7. I have heard SUNY Cobleskill is looking for a home and might be a good fit ... as they have been a JUCO power and now going 4-year. Not sure who else would be looking for a conference in NY state. The pickings are slim.
Did you hear the news, the NEAC added two new schools for next year.
Good for them. Who are they??
a Suny that just became NCAA and another suny school that decieded to leave the SUNYAC's
Well some of you have probably already heard the news but SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY IT will be joining the NEAC in 08-09 school year. Those two schools I think are two very good schools and will help the NEAC become a better League. They might not be the only teams joining, I know their are talks of maybe one or two more teams joining the NEAC. I think that the NEAC did a good job getting two good schools after losing so many.
They got one Division III athletic department. Not sure what Cobleskill will add other than numbers.
I was curious as well so I went to the Cobleskill web site and found this.
http://fightingtigers.cobleskill.edu/champions.html
May not indicate success but at least it looks lke they take their sports seriously.
We've seen in recent years that junior college athletic success as a program doesn't necessarily translate as a four-year school.
Case in point...Morrisville State football and men's ice hockey.
Cobleskill teams would kill morrisville teams. I can tell you have never seen any Cobleskill games. This is one JUCO that will stink when they move to the D3 level. Cobleskill should never be compared to morrisville that is just wrong.
Check back with us in 2010 and we'll see.
it may not translate to immediate success for most but remeber Keystone was a juco as recently as i believe 02-03 and we won the NEAC our first two years in that conference(04-04/05-06) not to mention the womans team won conference in 04-05 and the baseball team has also been dominant

I actually think Charles Edwards of Keystone is better than Askew
But Cobleskill is remaining a 2-year school?
Millikin 33, I would agree that Edwards is a better player than Askew. He can do many more things. In the one game I saw each player last year, I definitely think Edwards is more complete by the fact his J is much better and he slashes as well as Askew. Askew is a little bigger and better on the boards, but as a 2 I would take Edwards over Askew every time.
And Cobeskill is a 2-year JUCO this year. They will be going 4-year next year. I wonder how many of those JUCO kids will stick around and how does that effect their recruiting??
I saw Caz play the other day, they look good. Got bigger at every position. They brought in 11 kids and it looks like 6 of them will contribute on the Varsity team, and three of them might actually start, which is good for caz because they return 3 kids who scored double digits last year. They are quicker, bigger, and more athletic so i think they will be able to stop some guys on D this year. And they brought in a 6'8" kid who averaged a Double double in high school so i think he will help on the rebounding. so i think caz will be pushing BBC as the best team on the NEAC....
I think Eric Latendress is the best player in the NEAC, he can shot the 3, post up, drive, and out jump anyone who gaurds him.........
16 pts/game, 48% fg, 30% 3pt, 5 rpg, 25 blk, 38 stls

Latendress is not better than Edwards check the stats. Edwards averaged more points, rebounds, assists, had a higher 3 point % and higher free throw % and edwards is just as good or better of a defender and he has a great work ethic and a good attitude. He will certainly be in contention for conference player of the year if Keystone contends.
Actually u might want to check that out......they averaged the same amount of points per game..... he only averaged 1 more rebound per game, only 1 more assist per game. And Eric is the same player Edwards is, has a hard work ethic and a great defender..... they will both be in the running for player of the year
Is Locorini one of the guys Caz is counting on? Has he gotten quicker?
Locorini might play a few mins but there are two many freshman that are to good. Like I said in my message earlier, they brought in a 6'8" freshman who is good and played against guys going D1. Plus their back up center from last year is a great rebounder and shot blocker so it will be hard for him to get in the game.
D'Youville is going to the AMCC in 2009-2010. This gives the NEAC a chance to find some members somewhere.
At least the NEAC seems to be an entry point as a conference in that part of the country. We can watch the legislation that the NEAC has sponsored at the Jan 2008 Annual Meeting that helps with AQ requirements by counting provisional members towards the AQ, even though they will not eligible to receive the bid. They will count towards the "7" members necessary, if the legislation passes.
This leaves Keuka and Cazenovia out on the northwestern edge of the conference.
I have come across the press release (http://php.scripts.psu.edu/dept/iit/hbg/athletics/NEACmembers.pdf) announcing that the NEAC will admit SUNY-IT and provisional member SUNY-Cobleskill. SUNY-IT leaves the SUNYAC.
Tough loss for the NEAC, great for D'Youville. At least they are giving the NEAC some time to replace them. Boy, just when SUNYIT and Cobleskill come in to give some more legitimacy to this league, it takes another hit. D'Youville better be prepared to step it up some moving to the AMCC. They did not compete well last year in the NEAC, and most would agree the AMCC is better overall. As someone who follows college basketball in Western New York, I love the idea of Hilbert, Medaille and DYC all being in the same league again. The rivalry will be even better and the games more meaningful. The AMCC now has 5 schools of its 11 located in WNY and Northwestern PA. The big question is ... will they come courting Keuka and Caz too??
Back to the courts, how is pre-season going with some of the NEAC schools? I read some about Caz and their impressive big guys, and about the coaching change at Keuka. Anything else happening in the pre-season??
Well I am not surprised that D'Youville is leaving the NEAC because they have the longest to travel when it comes to playing most of the other schools. But good luck to them in the future.
Well i heard that PBU lost their big man for the year, whcih hurts them because he was the bes tplayer on the team. BBC should be good, they only lost two guys, Petrovich and Clarke, Clarke is a big loss for them cause he was one of there top scores but i have a feeling they will fill that up. Keystone only returned only 5 players, edwards is one but they got nothing else. Should be a good year.
And don't worry about the NEAC with their teams, the word is they will be adding two more schools from New York that are in another league that will help the NEAC out.
You are right about the travel issue. D'Youville was by far the most Western school and had to make long trips to almost everyone.
Big news about PBU. Their big guy was one of the top players in the league last year. They had a little guard that shot lights out against DYC the game I saw last year ... but he was a senior. D'Youville stayed in a zone and the kid lit them up. Hit about 7 3's. Their big guy (can't remember his name) was only a soph I believe and one of the all-league players. Did he transfer??
And how did you hear about Clarke at BBC. He was one of their top players too. On paper they have the best team with most returning from 18 wins last year. I would call them the favorite going into the season with powerhouses like Villa Julie and Chestnut Hill gone now. Keuka lost a lot (including their coach), but Caz sounds like they might be tough. DYC will be better, but how can they be any worse? I also don't think Greg French is at D'Youville this year. He played with them over the summer, but rumor is he is not attending classes. Not sure what the problem is. Maybe he did not get admitted. My source says everyone else I saw this summer is playing in their open gyms including Chuck Walker and Derrick Ware ... 2 possible all-league guys. They also got two guys from Virginia my buddy tells me can really play.
Well the big guy from PBU hurt his knee, most likely out for the year, word is he might red shirt. I played in the league so i become friends with a bunch of people that played in the league and a couple that still play in the league so I always hear a few things.
Keuka is in a rebuilding year but from what I hear they have two transfers that are going to try and lead the team this year. One is a 6'2" shooter and the other is a 6'5" post player. The shooter is know for his long rang shooting, and the big guy i hear from is JUCO days is a beast on the boards. But they lost alot and will need alot to help them out.
I think this year the league is up in the air, with BBC leading the way since they return, there top 3 big men in O'Keefe, Penley, and workman. Less then three weeks till the first practice. It should be a good year.
Caz looks to have a tough schedule this year
Non- League games---Home against Medaille, Oswego, Clarkson, Utica, and Hobart
Away against Alfred, St. John Fisher, SUNY IT, Skidmore, Morrisville.
Then they got all there league games.....looks like it could be a tough year.
Keuka always has a chance, they dont have any academic standards. It might as well be a four year junior college
Only a few more days till practice starts. ANybody got any new news before the 2007-2008 year kicks off
I had posted earlier that Greg French is NOT at D'Youville this semester. That might hurt the Spartans some. But I am told the open gym runs have been good. Some of the Buff State guys have been going down to DYC to play. Derrick Ware could be the best point guard in the NEAC this year. He is electric on the floor, from what I saw this summer. The Spartans are athletic on the wings. There are two frosh from Virginia Coach Miller brought in. One is a long, 6-2 guard and the other is smaller but shoots the lights out! Add in JUCO transfer Charles Walker from NCCC and retuners like Kowalski and Butler, and D'Youville might surprise. They are the only team in Western New York and so I don't have any info on other teams from this league. I do know Medaille has a lot of talent coming in with everyone returning, Hilbert has arguably the area's best DIII player (Dallas Reinard) and Buff State is athletic as anybody with local boy Santo Lamar from Maryvale HS looking to have a breakout year.
Caz schedule does look tough. Being right in the middle of the state, they can probably schedule teams from all over since they will be fairly close to everyone. And ease up on the Keuka academics haterinthehouse. Everyone needs SOMEPLACE to go to school.
Hater,
Don't make reckless generalizations. I don't see ANY Ivy league members in the NEAC. If anything, being a strong academic institute would probably help athletics (and recruiting) with schools in this conference.
Keystone is the first team to put up there 2007-2008 Roster.
http://www.keystone.edu/athletics/teams/roster.dot?teamId=74054
Lot of new guys
BBC is leaving the NEAC, looks like they are losing everyone. Teams should look to join other leagues.
I agree, however, if we look at the formation and configuration of the NEAC, it is made up of a bunch of small schools that nobody else wanted in a conference, thus they formed a reject conference.
This so-called conference has no niche. No academic standards or praise, and where is the athletic tradition. Most of these schools should form a new NCAA level, maybe Division 4
Well why don't you calm down haterinthehouse. The reason they didn't have anything like academic standards is because the Bible schools don't have any and don't plan on having any. So with them now gone the league will be changing and will turn into a better league.
Pretty quiet in here lately. The BBC news is pretty big for the league. At least D'Youville gave the NEAC another year to find a replacement. BBC is bolting next season. From what I understand, the academic standards at all these schools is pretty similar. The each have a specialty ... like DYC with PT and nursing and Keuka with their field experiences. So to say the Bible schools have lower academic standards I think is unfair.
More importantly, has anyone got any news on the teams now that practice has started?? I did see the post on Keystone's roster going up, any other gossip. Scrimmages should be starting soon.
Actually the NEAC has always wanted to set academic standards for the league but the Two bible schools said if the league tried to enforce the rules on them they would leave. So the league never set any standards. But now with them both leaving the league might set some.
I see caz put there roster up but seems that no one else but them and keystone have
Conference is a JOKE! Go D4 or NAIA, but stop pretending to be DIII competitive. To bust on Keuka yet again, what is there record in the Chase Tnmt? Better yet, get an exemption and compete at the NJCAA DIII level, or put Wells on the schedule 5-6 times, or finally...compete in only winter sports, there the ones that get all the money at that school anyway. Wonder why?
Haterinthehouse must have been cut at Keuka!!
I only know that in the past Keuka has wins against Nazareth in their tournament and a berth in the ECAC, D'Youville has beaten RIT, Oswego, Fredonia and won the St. John Fisher tournament a few years back, Caz beat Oneonta just last year. So there is a history of victories from this league over SUNY and Empire 8 schools. They don't have the tradition, history or BUDGET of some of those schools, but on occasion they can creep up and bite some of the "big boys."
Ya i noticed he is not a fan of Keuka,
but WNYhoops is right most of these schools don't have the same budget as the other schools. I mean Fisher has about 4 full-time assistants.
But I have been around caz for about 6 years and during that time they have beat some good schools like:
Clarkson (4 times)
Hobart
Tufts
Union
Ithaca
Utica
Cortland
Western Conn. State
Potsdam St.
York College
Oneonta
So its not like they haven't been able to beat some schools in the bigger leagues. Ya the NEAC might not be overall better then the other leagues but some of there top teams can hang with the other leagues
any news on the teams. Anybodya have a scrimmage? Caz scrimmaged OCC the starters dominated the OCC starters. Beat them by 20 every quarter they played. Sauer looked really good and their new starting center Marshell also had a good game scoring about 23 points. There JV team beat Cayuga communty college 64-60. which is a good start for there new JV team
I can tell you from my area that Buff State plays an exhibition game at UB Friday night. Hard to imagine what UB, a Division I program, can get out of that?? I think the coaches are tight. Medaille is playing McMaster from Canada on Saturday and D'Youville is at NCCC. Not sure on Hilbert's plans but they normally face Roberts Wesleyan early in the scrimmage season.
I have been hearing good things about Medaille ... which could be bad news for D'Youville as they prepare to move into the AMCC. They have a bunch of new players, most of their guys returning and a new JV program as well.
I don't know where bballfan44 got his info from, but I saw the Caz-OCC scrimmage. They played 10 min. quarters, and OCC won 6 out of 8. Caz only won 2 quarters (both by big margins), and they were when OCC had their bottom guys in. In fact, OCC's best big guy, Williams from West Genesee HS, got hurt in the first couple of minutes and didn't play the rest of the night. Caz looks pretty similar to past years, maybe a little better. Sauer, Marshall, and Hughes all look improved and Marshall did score some, but a lot of his points came against OCC's bottom guys who were giving up half a foot to him. In the end, though, it looks like Caz is again going to live and die with how well their guards, especially Latendress and Harris, shoot the ball. They will be dangerous because if they are on they can hang with anybody, but if they are off they don't have a lot of other options.
Caz has gotten better each year that Bowser has been there, and I think that they will take another step forward this year. Keuka lost a lot of guys, and some of the better teams in the league either left or are on the way out, so it's hard to predict how things will go, though. Time will tell.
Actually I was at the game........Caz did loss 4 of the 6 quarters, by 3,5,1,3. And then Caz's starters blew out OCC starts(without shane) by 16 and 17. The occ coaches said caz was alot better then last year. Everyone said how caz is a better defensive team then las year to. Caz's main three sauer, latendress, and harris weren't even the best players for caz. they had a new kid that came off the bench and hit about 6 or 7 threes and seems to be a very athletic kid. Caz didn't even have there whole varsity team there, i guess they sent a few players to play with there JV squad, and one of them was there 6'8 freshman who will see alot of mins.
And i think keuka will surprise some teams and be better then people think. they just got to make sure one of there transfers doesn't shot the ball everytime from three like he did when he played juco ball.
I think that the guy that you are talking about is the transfer from Cayuga. I agree that he looked good - played with a lot of energy. He might push Caz's starting guards for time once he gets more familiar with what they are doing.
Not to beat the horse to death, but the two periods that Caz won big OCC had guys on the floor that didn't see any time last year and won't see much of any this year. It wasn't against their starting 5 or even their 2nd five. When OCC had all of their top guys on the floor (even without Williams) they won every period, most of them close, and the last one by 20+.
Like I said before, Caz does look a little better, and I think that they will continue to go in the right direction, especially if Marshall, Hughes, or someone else can give them consistent inside scoring to balance their perimeter game and take over on the nights that they aren't shooting the ball well.
You might be right with Keuka. They are tough to predict right now though with a new coach and a lot of new players stepping into big roles. They might be a team that starts slow but comes on as the season progresses.
Lamin Zulu played at CCC from 03-05, I believe. He is from Ithaca
PSU- Berks has update there roster on there website. It seems that Askew is either not eligiable to play or has transferred to another school. Scoring and athletic wise he is good enough to go to a better school. But that hurts berks, he has been the leading scorer since he been there.

I am guessing that you meant Suny Utica?
Against Utica College the last 6 years I believe Caz has lost to UC every time, with blowouts in all but one game.
Actually UCgrad in 01-02 caz beat Utica
Good catch bballfan44 on the lack of Askew on the Berks roster. I have been checking to see who has them posted on web sites ... and the only ones who do not now are BBC, Harrisburg, DYC and Keuka. I think the league will have a lot of new faces and it really will be up for grabs. I still like the experience and savy of BBC. Caz can play with anyone on a given night and lose to the worst team the next. They are the wild card. I hear Keuka will have to rebuild. Keystone will contend with BBC and Caz with DYC and all their new players making some noise also.
Keuka finally hase there updated roster. They added some size but a few of those guys sat the bench in high school or played limited mins. THey do have a few kids that are good, if they can play well they can compete in the NEAC. But they don't have much depth.

Actually UCgrad in 01-02 caz beat Utica
No they didn't. That was the one UC won 91-89. The only time it has been within 25 points since the 90's.

Hey UCgrad. Actually that game score was for the 00'-01 season. The game I am talking about is the 01-02 season. Caz beat utica 87-83 in OT.
http://www.cazenovia.edu/default.aspx?tabid=1188
Nice job BBallfan44. That team which beat Utica had, from what I remember, Chuck Cassidy and a mad-man named Justin Stowers ... who was like 27 years old. They actually got an at-large bid to the NCAA and were pounded by Williams.
Your right WNYhoops they did get an at-large bid, and they did get pounded by Williams. Cassidy and there starting point guard did not play in the NCAA game, Caz still would have lost but i think Cassidy who was there leading scorer and there PG who was there best defensive player would have made it maybe a 20 point lose instead. And that year they did beat Utica, it was probably the best team to ever play at Caz.
They didn't play in the game because one or both were involved in an off-campus fight where several basketball players beat the hell out of someone.
Sorry John McGraw, the fight that you are talking about was the next year. And there was 5 basketball players supposely involved in that fight and they all went to court and 3 of them were found not guilty. The reason Cassidy didn't play was because the game before that he got two technicals and by rule he had to sit out the next game. The point guard did not play because he had the flu.
If three were found innocent, Captain Math says that means two were found guilty.
Your right good to see you can do your math, but still the fight was during the 02-03 season so it had nothing to do with the NCAA game
WNY......saw Dyouvilles roster. looks like they are chaning back to the team when Miller first coached which is a fast past athletic team like when he had guys like cook and starkes.............BBC is the only team with out an updated roster
I just checked the roster myself. About what I expected from the summer league. Like I said earlier, they have some major athletes. Kind of small, but they make up for it with speed. I heard they scrimmaged Geneseo Saturday and held their own. Lost one 20 minute session by 5 and the second by 3. Geneseo won 15 games last year and has 4 starters returning. The kid I know who goes to school at DYC told me they had chances and were playing without Derrick Ware, who has been hurt. He is the spark plug to that team. They open at Buff State Friday night. A tough task to open with them, but could be entertaining. I will give you a report after the weekend.
Here is what everyone in the NEAC has for there first game. Goodluck to everyone in the NEAC, hopefully they can make a stride this year to making this league better.
D'Youville @ Buff State (12-13)
Keuka @ Medaille (11-14)
BBC vs Marywood (5-20)
Keystone vs Hilbert (14-14)
PSU-berks @ Elizabethtown (9-15)
PBU @ Muhlenberg (10-15)
Cazenovia vs Medaille (11-14)
PSU-Harrisburg @ Dickerson (7-15)
Let's make some predictions (and thanks for the schedule) Here is how I see the openers going:
D'Youville at Buff State - Loss. Buff state too big and athletic for new-look Spartans. I expect DYC to hang in for a little while, but in the end I believe hosts will continue to dominate their cross-town "little brother."
Keuka at Medaille - Loss. Keuka has so many new faces with little experience. MEdaille gym is tough to play in and the Mavericks have everyone back from a decent team last year plus a very strong recruiting class. Tough opener on the road for Coach Flood in his first game.
BBC vs. Marywood - Win. Defenders should be able to handle future PAC rival Marywood in their opener. Unlike DYC and Keuka, BBC has a ton of experience back and even without Clarke they have a strong inside game with Workman, Penley and O'Keefe to dominate the paint. Coach Show keeps it rolling for the NEAC favorites.
Keystone vs. Hilbert - Win. The Giants at home are pretty tough. Although Hilbert has a great player in Reinhart, I still see Keystone winning on their home floor for their first-year coach. Another very athletic team that will surprise some in this conference.
Berks at Elizabethtown - Loss. Don't know anything about E-town but Berks without Askew will struggle to score. Could be a long year for the Lions.
PBU at Mulhelberg - Loss. PBU still stung by the injury of Arthur. Also a host of newcomers. Tough to win on the road in an opening tournament. Eagles might be in trouble too.
Caz vs. Medaille - Win. Medaille making its run thru the NEAC is the opponent for Caz in their home debut. Wildcats a different team at home than on the road and I think they may have the firepower to take down the Mavs.
Harrisburg at Dickerson - Loss. I know absolutely nothing about PSU-Harrisburg so this is just a guess. They are new to the league and come from a conference that Berks used to dominate. I would assume they would be similar in style and level as Berks. Put them down for a L at Dickerson.
Interesting news about BBC, they scrimmaged Villa Julie and Scranton. They played both schools like a real game. They beat Villa Julie by 5 and beat scranton by 1. The word is they look good.

Bballfan44, that's correct. I was at that game. Caz got blown out in the NEAC Championship game up at Erie CC. The game got ugly at the end with technicals being assessed all over the place, including multiple Caz players & the coach.

Nice Job on the predictions. all of them right so far. Keuka/Medialle game was alot closer then i thought it would be. Either Keuka is better then I think or Medialle is not as good as i thought. WNY did you watch any games?
I should go to Vegas and bet some of the D3 games from this conference. I did go to Buff State and saw D'Youville and the Bengals. What a track meet. BSC ended up winning by 30 but it did not seem like that much. Very entertaining. Both teams with some athletes. Buff State just bigger and stronger. Wore them out on the boards. Rebounding will be an issue for DYC all year. But if they get in the open court they will be dangerous in this league. There were a bunch of dunks from both teams. Derrick Ware from DYC still hobbled by leg injury which slowed him down some. Spartans also missed a lot of 3's. Scored most of their points in transition.
I was also surprised by Keuka showing. Maybe they are better than most thought. A lot of new faces in the league. I see PBU got hammered twice in a tournament and BBC split. Caz opens tomorrow with Medaille at home. Maybe we can get a read on them by comparing that score with the Keuka game.
Medaille @ Cazenovia
Cabrini @ Penn State Berks
TCNJ @ Keystone
Hartwick @ Keuka
Valley Forge @ Penn State Harrisburg
D'Youville @ Fredionia St
Lets see how the NEAC does tonight hopefully they can win a few more then they did over the weekend
Caz got blown out by 20 points. they looked awful
they will be the bottom feeder of the NEAC.
Caz loses to Oswego By 29. they were only down by 9at half. played good the first half. Oswego went on a run to start the second to run away with the game.
Sounds like Caz had a decent showing vs. Oswego ... at least in the first half. They are playing a tough schedule, but they are at home. Harrisburg seems to be putting up a ton of points. Not sure on the level of their competition, however. DYC with a big win at Fredonia last week. Charles Walker was huge down the stretch. Spartans trailed by 15 with 10 minutes to play then turned up the heat. Big game Thursday night in Buffalo as Keuka comes in for first league game of the season. Banks from Keuka is putting up big numbers (29 ppg.). I will be at the game to check out both teams.
It seems like PBU and Berks will struggle based on early scores. The rest is up for grabs!!
Keuka beats D'Youville 78-72. Looks like it was a good tough game for both teams. D'youville must have played some good D forcing 35 turnovers.
WNYhoops wondering if you went to the game and what you thought.
I saw the Kowalski didn't play. Anybody know why? he is a big part of their team and I think if he played they probably would have won.
Interesting you should ask because I did go to the game last night. Very entertaining. Keuka jumped out fast in the first half mostly from the free throw line. I was very impressed with Keuka. I thought with all their losses to graduation they would be in major rebuilding mode. But they have some real players ... starting with the kid Raquan Banks, who came in averaging 30 ppg.
DYC did a nice job on him, Charles Walker in particular, and held him to 16 points. He was visibly upset and flustered throughout the game. He turned the ball over 12 times by the Spartans relentless D. They really put a lot of pressure on the ball. As I have mentined before, Derrick Ware is one of the best defenders in DIII basketball for putting pressure on the dribbler. But the Spartans killed themselves from the foul line. Missed 4 straight down the stretch after trimming the lead to 3 with the ball.
Kowalski was on the bench in street clothes ... on crutches. No idea how long he is out or even what the problem is. But you are right, with him they probably win that game. Looking at early scores, I would think Keuka, Keystone, BBC and DYC will battle all season for the NEAC title. Caz seems to be the darkhorse. Berks, PBU and Harrisburg look to be a couple notches below.
Harrisburg beats BBC by 2. Big shock to me didn't see that comeing.
Berks beat up on PBU
Caz beats clarkson by 12
Hobert beats Keuka by 30
Cazenovia beat Hobart 73-72. Eric L. hits a lay-up with 4 second in the the game for the win. Caz played great defense in the game to keep hobart thinking. Latendress- 23: Sauer-17: Harris-15
NEAC standings-
1. Cazenovia (lost DYC)
2. BBC (Lost Caz, PSU-Harr)
3. Keystone (Lost DYC, PSU-Harr)
4. DYC (Lost Keuka, PBU)
5. PSU-Harr (Lost BBC, Keystone)
6. PSU-Berks (Lost BBC, Keystone)
7. Keuka (Lost Caz, BBC)
8. PBU (Lost Caz, Keystone, Berks 2)
League looks pretty open, should be interesting coming down the stretch
Actually Kolowski plans on coming back this weekend. If he joins the team health and his knee is better, they are the best team in the league in my opinion. Keuka is a mess with out wunder, coach can't control anybody. And stop Caz's three headed monster and you will win hands down. Their big men stink. Can't score, can't rebound, and can barely make it down the court.
big day in the neac...
baptist bible defeats DYC at home with a big performance from freshman greve, gotta wonder how much the travel affected DYC... but the big news is berks upsetting Caz at caz... is askew back for berks? if not, that is an absolute shocker...
Cazenovia pulled out a big win against Harrisburg to move themselves back in to first place. The league is close, and i think it is up in the air. Should be a good month of basketball to see who gets the top 4 seeds to advance to the league tournment.
what happened in the berks vs caz game?
Caz came out ugly in the first half. They couldnt make a basket or defend a thing. Berks came out and couldn't miss. They shot 7-9 from the three in the first half. shot 55% over in the first half and caz went in to the locker room by 11. They brought it down to 6 but couldnt get any closer. I think they might have been over looking berks, and were thinking about harrisburg.
Oh ans Askew is not back. He is sitting ouut this year because he is going to be in school for 5 years and the team is going to be pretty good the next two years so he wanted to sit out so he could play
it's good to see this conference still together. that's all
big game tomorrow night with keystone playing at bbc... especially after caz knocked off keystone on saturday... dyc is also at caz on tuesday
Tonight is a big night. If Keystone gets the win it will make a three way tie between keystone, BBC, and Caz. Of course Caz will be in first because they own the tie breaker between both teams, then keystone in second because it has the tie breaker over BBC. But i dont believe Keystone will win tonight. playing at BBC so i see BBC winning by 12.
Plus the word is that caz and d'youville game has been moved to tommorrow night.
I think first place for the league will not be clear till the end of the season when Caz travels to BBC, and the winner gets first
keystone vs. bbc has been rescheduled for friday the 22nd, which makes that weekend huge, as bbc will host keystone and caz on back-to-back nights... looks like we will be waiting to see where the tourney is until the last minute
Cazenovia grabs the #1 seed for the NEAC tournment with a win over BBC. Caz was down by 13 with 7 mins left in the game to tie it with 45 seconds left in the game. Then Zulu hit a three pointer at the buzzard to win the game 76-73.
I believe the seedings for the tournment will be
2 BBC vs 3 Keystone
1 Cazenovia vs PSU-Berks
all games will be played at caz.
Should be good. BBC and Keystone split the season series which were both close games. and of course berks beat caz twice this season. Games are friday
NEAC Play offs are tomorrow night:
My Predictions-
Cazenovia 87- PSU-Berks 68
Baptist Bible 68- Keystone- 59
Coach Of The Year- Mike Show (BBC)
1st Team-
Charles Walker- DYC
Raquan Banks- Keuka
Tom Arther- PBU
Eric Latendress- Caz
Seth Lewis- PSU-Harrisburg
2nd Team-
Abe Hitz- PSU-Harrisburg
Charles Edwards- Keystone
Tim O'Keefe- BBC
Steve Harris- Caz
Adam Fusco-PSU-Berks
Honorable Mention-
Robert McDowell- Keuka
Eric Sauer- Caz
Josh Workman- BBC
Nathen Penley-BBC
Tercel Taylor-Keystone
Why the BBC coach for coach of the year? I would think Coach Bowser @ Caz is the more logical choice when you consider the fact that Caz hadn't beaten BBC at all in the last few years, then manages to beat them twice while tying BBC as co league champs with a 10-4 record? I'd call that a major breakthrough. The 2 wins may have been by a combined 6 points, but they still count the same. This is the first time in years Caz will finish .500 or better for the season; they've never had 10 conference wins before. And if Caz wins this tournament I don't think there should be any discussion at all. I'm not taking anything away from Coach Show-- he's a good coach running a good program. It's just that I think he got out coached this year.
Coach Show is the better coach. BBC had the overall better record. Ya Caz beat BBC but they got lucky in the last game. BBC is the better team and show is the best coach so thats why ithink show will win the award. As for the championship game:
BBC 71 Caz 56
well, again. nothing against coach show, but I'd have to argue who's the better coach. They are both very good. And it takes more than luck to come back from 13 down, then from 8 down with 2 minutes to go, then be in a position where the luck actually can make a difference in the outcome. . .especially on the other teams home court, where you haven't won before.
It took some luck, but it also took a lot of effort and a win is a win. Actually, that's 2 wins now. I wish I could be there tomorrow. I'll be surprised if either team gets a double digit victory. It should be a good game. Knowing how hard it is to beat a team 3 times in a season BBC will probably be the favorites, but that's ok. Lets see them make it past Keystone for a 3rd time, and Caz avenge Berks and then we can talk.
I think the season performance Caz put up took more than what BBC's season took. Again, no offense to Show (who I believe won the award last year as well). You are right that BBC had a record that's 3 games better than Caz. I assume they played a difficult non conference schedule, and I know Caz did. Still, BBC fared better against non conference foes. They have the better record. They did last year as well. And I bet if I looked into it, they've had a better record for years. They are a more established program.
It took more for Caz to get to this point. To me, that's the deal breaker.
For the record. . .I think you're right that Show will win the award. I just don't agree with the decision.
Hey bballfan44-- looks like I got the coach of the year right, and you called the final outcome right on the game. You also did a decent job with the players who got honors. It was a good game Saturday. Caz got used to coming back from 13 down, but 20 turned out to be too much especially when BBC was perfect from the line down the home stretch. It was a good season, and they both get post season bids. The NEAC should be happy with both schools.
what are everyone's thoughts and predictions for next year?
League gets a little tougher. They loss BBC, Keystone, and PBU but add Wells, SUNY IT, and SUNY Colbiskill. Wells will probably be bad, but IT and Colb i think are better teams then BBC and Keystone. I mean IT beat Caz by 20 who was the number one team in the league. Plus D'youville loses no one and if they add some to the team they will be good. PSU-Berks loses no one and askew comes back who was the best player on there team his first two years. Harrisburg returnes the player of the year and everyone else. Keuka loses only woodley which isn't much of a lose. Caz loses there best player in latendress but still bring back two big scores. I think it will be up in the air on who will be at the top of the league. It all depends on who brings in the best recruiting class because I think everyone is equal right now. Whats your thoughts???????????
Congrats to BBC on making the NCAA tournment. to bad they couldnt pull a win out. To bad they aren't staying in the league next year because if you throw them in with the two new teams, and the others staying it would be a very competitive league. Good luck to them in the PAC
It has been awhile since I have posted, but I like the discussion of the NEAC you guys bring. I did not get to see as much NEAC basketball as I would have liked, but from the teams I did see and from looking at web sites, etc. I would think SUNU IT will be the team to beat in this league next year. They play in the SUNYAC and get beat up on, but they did have the frosh of the year and pounded Caz late in the season. Losing BBC, Keystone and PBU is a blow to the conference, as I feel Keystone could be pretty good and BBC (even though they lose nearly their entire starting lineup and will not be as potent next season) have a great system and coach. They always play hard and smart.
Cobleskill is a mystery. They are traditionally good in the JUCO ranks, but how does that spell over to DIII next year. My guess is they cannot get the same type of players as they have had. If they do, they would have to be at the top of the pre-season rankings along with SUNY IT. Wells most-likely will be bad as a first-year program.
Of the returning team, DYC does bring back everyone and you know Coach Miller will add to the group. This is the team I see most often living in Buffalo and hearing things thru the grapevine. Word is Greg French (a JUCO player-of-the year at ECC a couple years ago and former 2,000 point HS scorer at Traditional) will show up on campus next fall. But we heard the same thing last off-season so who knows. Even without French, the Spartans return all-everything scorer Charles Walker and will have Kowalski back to full strength. They should be tough. Caz loses Latendress which is a major blow for them. I saw him put 31 on DYC scoring from all over the court. Without him the defensive attention can go more toward Harris, who is hot and cold. Keuka's situation will depend a great deal on Banks. He was super last year early, but disappeared at times and missed some games too. Will he be back?? If so, they could contend. Berks and Harrisburg are similar, but I think a notch below IT, DYC and Caz at this point.
From my vantage point, IT is the favorite right now, with DYC a close second. Caz and Keuka have some question marks, but should be able to contend in a balanced league. It should be fun and I hope to take in more games next season.
Hey good to see you back on the board WNYhoops. I believe SUNY IT will be oneof the top teams next year, the only problem they could have is keeping kids. They get alot of transfers but most of them have trouble staying in school. There was only one kid on this years team that played against caz last year. So who knows who they will return, i mean i know its still early but the freshmen of the year isn't on the team roster anymore(kind of strange). I kind of think Cobleskill will be the team to beat next year, they are loaded with alot of talent this year, so if most of them come back they will be stacked. Plus they are a SUNY school which means it is easy for them to get anyone they want. But that is a long ways away. Maybe one of the NEAC teams will get some stud recruits
Actually SUNYIT should be very good. They have three solid bigs, SUNYAC ROY Dave Golembiowski, Derek ahn & Savion Torrance, all freshmen plus Devon Moore & Maceo Hayneworth coming back. If they can find a point guard, they should dominate that league. Although they didn't have a great record, they were in most games, and feared by most of the coaches in the league.
P.S. SUNYIT is actually very selective in Freshman admissions, and becoming increasingly so in transfer admissions. Cobleskill is transitioning from two to four year, but eventually they will be upgrading their standards as well. Coby is very well coached and play great defense, that will be enough to contend in the NEAC in most years.
I agree with thebear's assessment of SUNYIT. They can score with anybody, but cannot consistently defend
That should make things interesting in their game with DYC. D'Youville can also really score ... but defense is not their strength either. They led the conference in scoring at around 75 ppg. Their last two games of the season were both over 90. That should be a fun game next year when those two hook up!!
I think next year should be a good year for the NEAC about 6 teams fighting for first (SUNY IT, Colbeskill,Caz, DYC, Berks and Harrisburg). I think berks and harrisburg will be up there because they return so much. DYC will be good again, Coach Miller is a great Coach and recruiter, he will turn the team around and they will be like they use to be, fast pace athletic players. Caz should be ok again, they have gotten better each year under bowser so i dont see a big drop to the team. I just dont think Keuka will be any good. They really dont have a great coach and none of the guys like him. If Banks is smart he will get out of there and go play for a good team. But still along time till next season starts
There's a new kid on the block next year - should be interesting with their coach - could upset your thinking - will a first year team compete for the crown?
I hope your not talking about Wells....... i mean i wish them luck, but they will have no chance to play for the championship
Anybody have any word on recruits for next year. I take back my statment i made before about Wells. What I have heard through the grape vine the coach has been doing some good recruiting and is brings in some good freshmen with some good JUCO kids to get the program starting. They should be in the middle of the pack next year.
I just watched some summer league basketball at Daemen College. This league is the tops in the area. A lot of former D1 players, pros home from overseas, top talent in Buffalo. ECC, Daemen, Medaille, Hilbert and D'Youville all have teams, as do groups of guys in their mid-20's to early 30's who played at very high levels.
Sticking to this thread about the NEAC, I can tell you D'Youville won tonight against a group of former Daemen players like Dewan Stroud and former Oswego standout Eric Roberson. The Spartans are athletic as ever but seem to have better chemistry than last summer at this time. Charles Walker was outstanding, but the team has some new faces I did not recognize. One of the frosh I do know is Greg Osika .. the point guard and All Western New York 3rd team from Depew. The kid is pesky and really knows how to handle the ball. Shane Canahai, who played at NCCC last year and I thought was headed to D'Youville, is with them again this summer. Not sure if he will be playing for Coach Miller in the fall. There was another kid who I guess is from the Batavia area (Oakfield-Alabama??) who is around 6-2, shoots it and is athletic as well.
They did not have a big guy but a lot of players around 6-3, 6-4 and long. The new 3-point line did not seem to phase them either. But their game is transition. They fell behind early and trailed by 13 at the half before blitzing the Daemen group in the second 20 minutes. From what I saw tonight, I would have to think they have a good shot at winning this league after making some strides last year and coming on strong at the end of the season.
Hey WNYhoops.....i hear coach miller is one of the final four for the Alfred job. That would hurt DYC if he gets it. that program has only done anything when he is in charge of the helm. Great recruiter and coach would suck if he goes.
Some Rumors; I hear Keuka could be losing alot of big pieces. one of there starters looks to be transfering to another NEAC school. i think this upcoming year the team will struggle with the coach they have.
new member SUNY IT, loses sme players from grades.
Askew is back for berks and they return everyone plus another big athletic freshman. They lok to be the team to beat.
Caz brings in another big group of 10-12 players but who knows if they are any good. Some freshman and some transfers. There might be 2 guys in the group that will show impact. i do know they stole a PG that medaille really wanted.
Wells brings in some athletic transfers. I feel that they will not be in last place as there first year.
Good stuff bballfan44.
I don't know about Coach Miller and Alfred. All I know is what I see posted on the Empire 8 board. That would be a tough loss for the Spartans, but I can tell you he was back watching their summer league team play last night ... so the Alfred thing puzzles me if he is spending time watching the DYC players. Interesting note, D'Youville played a team of guys last night that included Jason Rowe who plays pro in Europe and Damone Brown who was a star at Syracuse and had a stint in the NBA with the Sixers. And the Spartans lost by 2, had the ball with a chance to win it but turned it over with less than :10 left. Charles Walker was outstanding and has to be the frontrunner for POY in this league. A couple frosh were not intimidated and one kid, Louis Megna, was taking it at Brown. Of course, Brown was not going full-tilt, but once the game stayed close they were going hard to win it.
What Keuka starter transferred and to where? I had heard Banks might not be back.
I agree that Berks will be good. Especially if Askew returns as you say. SUNY IT is interesting with their big kid who hits a lot of 3's and their athleticism. I would want to keep an eye on Cobleskill ... they are the widcard in this league. A good JUCO going DIII is hard to project how they will do. Do they keep the same type of kids or start over?? I still like DYC to be in the mix, simply because I am from Buffalo and Coach Miller has a lot of local kids on the squad ... plus I see them the most. One of the guys told me last night they have a 6-6 frosh coming in from Germany to play. He is a PT student and was a member of one of their junior national teams. Are the Spartans going global???
I'll keep posting anything else I hear. Anybody else on this board know any summer gossip??
Yeah i also heard Banks might not be back....but from what i heard is Mcdowell is going to wells now to play with his high school teammate antonio parker(Transfer from TC3)
It looks like Coach Miller is staying put at DYC. Alfred has hired its new coach.
If McDowell does leave Keuka and Banks does not return, they might finish last in the conference. Maybe Wells does have something going, but it would be hard for a first-year program to win the league ... wouldn't it??
I still think SUNY IT and Cobleskill, both newcomers, will be near the top. Berks will be solid and normally do well within the conference. DYC will be very good and should challenge. Harrisburg has two of the top players in the league returning ... but they really struggle on the road. The team nobody seems to mention much is Caz. Remember, they are the regular season champions. They do loose their top scorer and rebounder in Latendress, but everyone else should be back. It's July, but I'll take a crack at the pre-season standings with the little I know about who actually will be on rosters (assuming the info posted on this site is indeed true):
1) SUNY IT - ROY in SUNYAC back along with most of team that smoked Caz by 20.
2) Caz - defending champs find ways to win big games. Returning backcourt is best in the league.
3) DYC - Walker will be POY. Athletic newcomers and Miller's up tempo style wear teams down. If they get any play from their posts they could win the league.
4) Berks - everyone returning from playoff team. If Askew is back, they have the main scorer they lacked last year.
5) Cobleskill - Just a guess. Always a good JUCO. How does that transfer to 4-year school???
6) Harrisburg - Last season's top scorer and POY Lewis returns along with hot shooting Hitz. They can score ... but have trouble defending.
7) Wells - If McDowell is definitely there they will beat some people. First-year program feeling their way.
8) Keuka - Decimated by loses according to posters here.
Hey not bad for some early perdictions. Mine will be alittle bit different.
1. Caz- return 2nd,3rd,4th leading scorer. and rumor is they got a kid who got a few scholarship offers. But i also heard they lost there biggest kid, that might hurt in non league but def not in league games.
2/3. I am not sure here, its between DYC and berks. If berks returns askew they can be good, he is a real good player. But DYC with walker can be good. I like Coach Miller he knows how to recurit and how to play.
4- SUNY IT- rumors say they have lost a few starters because of grades. ROY is going to be back, he is good if they have a good recuriting class they might move up.
5 Wells- I think they will be a surpise, bringing in alot of transfers. should be interesting.
6. Harrisburg- Got two good players but thats about it, wont do to much this year, everyone knows how to beat them now
7. Cobleskill- New coach will hurt, and they lose there best players because they transfered out.
8. Keuka- Lost to many good players, bad coach. Smith and stern probably only good players returning and they cant do it themselves
Sorry WNY, i made a mistake, Mcdowell wanted to go to Wells to play with his good friend from high school but for some reason decided to stay a keuka probably cause its his last year. So they might be better then last. Sorry for the wrong information
I have heard that sometimes wrong information gets out on a message board. No need to apologize. If McDowell stays at Keuka they will not finish last. But one person alone cannot get it done. He would have added a nice flair to the Keuka/Wells game tho.
Saw D'Youville again last night and they looked bad at times, good at others. Very inconsistent in their play. Medaille had a solid summer and made the playoffs in the ultra-competitive Daemen league. Many pros and former DI and DII players in the 12-team league. Paul Harris even made an appearance with Jason Rowe and Damone Brown's team last week.
What has anyone heard about Wells and their prospects for a successful first campaign?
I have been out of the loop for the summer, but what happened at Cobleskill? I assumed Coach McCarthy would continue to coach as they moved up to DIII...Any news on who the new coach is? Why did he step down? Is he still the AD? What players are coming back?
University of Dallas? Really?
yep its true, it was approved about a month ago. It was a way to keep the bid. The deal is for 2 years.

2 years?
Thanks for the info and +1!
That does not shut out UDallas for availability, if the SCAC tries to expand then.
This seems crazy to me. How are they going to determine seeds for the tournament if they are not even playing a regular-season schedule? Are they just going to flip a coin to see who goes to the NCAA's. It is the NORTH EAST Athletic Conference ... and the last time I checked Dallas was located in the Southwest United States.
Plus living in Buffalo and being Bills fans, we hate everything about Dallas!!
Yeah it stinks for the kids, there will be no all-league teams now. And the regular season doesnt mean to much now because everyone makes the play-offs.
Further proof that Dallas is an east coast city unfortunately trapped in the state of Texas. The University of Dallas Crusaders join the like of the Dallas Cowboys who play in the NFC East and the Dallas Desparados from the Arena Football League and are in the Eastern Division.
Does anyone know where Wells got most of there players from for this year?....and wat will the seeds look like for the conference tourny in your eyes?
Wells got most of there players from JUCO schools. most of the kids are good players but couldnt get in to any other school so wells took them.
The seeding is going to be tough this year. It goes by strenght of schedule. You could have the best record against your confrence teams but still might not get the number one seed because you sucked against your non-confrence teams. So who knows But this is what i think the seedings will be.
1. Cazenovia
2. D'youville
3. PSU-Berks
4. SUNY IT
5. University Of Dallas
6. Wells
7. SUNY Cobleskill
8. Keuka
9. PSU-Harrisburg
Not sure how they are seeding the tournament and, of course, practice is still more than one month away. I have not seen any rosters posted on web sites yet, but I will take a stab at it judging by who is supposed to be coming back at each school:
1) SUNY IT
2) Caz
3) DYC
4) Cobleskill
5) Dallas
6) Berks
7) Harrisburg
8) Wells
9) Keuka
I will applaud the commissioner and the presidents of the NEAC for trying to keep the AQ bids in the sports which have them now. The conference exhausted all of other legislative avenues that would have permitted them to keep the AQ. The "Rent-a-University" was close to the last option to maintain the AQ.
If the conference had not done this, then the NEAC would have been competing against all other Pool B schools, including the Landmark Conference schools this year, the UMAC schools, the GSAC schools, including Maryville TN which has 10 straight Pool B bids, and the New England Collegiate Conference schools.
Last season, I thought that Chapman CA men were more serving than the two Landmark schools (Scranton and Moravian) who got Pool B bids last year. We do not know whether there will be 3-4 bids in Pool B in 2009.
As for this season, these are the schools that are eligible for the NCAA tourney from the NEAC.
1) SUNY IT
2) Caz
3) DYC (Moving to the AMCC in 2009-10)
4)Cobleskill Provisional year #1
5) Dallas
6) Berks
7) Harrisburg Provisional year #2
8 ) Wells
9) Keuka
You barely have 7 full members including Dallas as the affiliate. You actually need to borrow Dallas for year #2 and #3 of Harrisburg's provisional status, then hope that Harrisburg is a full member in 2011-12. That will be stretching it too close for comfort. (As I understand the provisions, a conference may fall below the required 7 members for two years. This gives the NEAC a chance to maintain the AQ.
I recommend that the NEAC look at inviting Lancaster Bible, currently in Provisional Year #3 and Penn State-Abington which could start provisional year #1 in 2009-10.
Abington was already invited.
Abington will start participating in the league next year. And Lancaster wants to join the league BBC and PBU went to

Lancaster Bible College? The CSAC, nee PennAC? That makes sense.
It would be a smart things for Lancaster and the NEAC to join forces togather because Lancaster isn't a strong program right now and the NEAC needs the members.
WNYHoops, i am surprised you don't have DYC higher up then three since your a big fan of them. I actually had a hard time chosing between Caz and DYC because i know how good a coach and a recuriter coach miller is. THe only reason I picked Caz is because i know someone who is in there and I heard what they got for this year.
ANd i wouldn't put Wells that low, they have a bunch of JUCO players. A couple that couldn't get into any other school. Some of them had some good JUCO years. They will beat up on some teams even some of the good teams. But there attitudes will hurt them sometimes.
It should be an interesting year, everything is up in the air. Can't wait to see the new rosters when they come out
Well I would have DYC up a little higher and I actually think they have the talent to win the league. Charles Walker had a great summer from what I saw and Coach Miller has added some athletic kids around him. Their point guard play will be improved, but they lack a true low post threat. That is why I am hesitant to put them at the top of my list. A lot will depend on the rehab of Kowalski and how he comes back from a knee injury that had him playing at around 50% last season.
Well it should be an interesting year for DYC, i think they will be good. I mean Caz won the league with no true center. THis year they will have to do it again with out a real strong post game. They return 2 of there three big men. Tom Wilk there freshman transfered out because he lost his scholarship and couldn't afford caz. They did get a freshman from a small school in central NY who is 6'5'. Kid has a good offensive game and can run the florr but might not be ready for the college physical game. Of course the league is pretty weak at the center position so i think if you get an ok center with some good guards you should be able to run through the league tournment.

Can you tell us who the kid is or where he went to school?
Yeah his name is Dustin McClure from DeRyuter High school
Wells has a Junior G that got asked to play at the U. IOWA....hes goooood.just dont no why he went to Iowa..i also forgot his name
Do you mean "why he went to Wells" rather than Iowa? Who else did Wells bring in?
I am not sure if I beleive that, If the kid was good enough to go to the U. Iowa he would have got a ton of scholarship offers from small D 1 and D 2 schools. And even if he went D 3 why would he go to wells, there are cheaper and alot better D3 schools then wells. and its a first year program. No way
Wells also brought in some solid players...this year could be streaky..im thinking around .500...but next year watch out..you might be reallly surprised...the G from Chicago is pretty legit..prob playing SG instead of PG because of his ability to score..but hes the size of the PG
I've been off the board for some time, but it sounds like Wells might be a player in this league. I did not know what to expect from a first-year program ... but apparently the coach has been working hard recruiting some big-time players. A guard from Chicago and a guy who had a chance to play in the Big 12?? I might have to adjust my predictions if that is true.

Somebody is going to have to explain how a legit DI guard from Chicago gets to Aurora NY. Not saying it's impossible. After all look at the University of New Englands roster. Kids from Austin Tx in Biddeford, ME defies logic as well.
Morrisville will be joining the NEAC starting in the 2009-2010 season after a very short time in the SUNYAC. They will be replacing the departing D'Youville.
wells has a big man who is goood..but i think he is not elgible for a couple games..it should be interesting..im going to there first two games next week

Do you have a press release?
I think that Morrisville will thrive in the NEAC. Better to have a thriving program than to get slaughtered each week! The SUNYAC is strong!
If true (and I am only giving into my own obsessive-compulsive nature), then that helps keep the AQ for the NEAC in 2010-11.
does the winner of the NEAC automatically get a spot in the ncca tournament this year too?

I believe that they retain their AQ.
SUNY IT has no reason not to win this conference. When I hear that Caz is being picked at the top of the conference...... wow.
Well SUNY IT has a chance to win it, The NEAC is probably tougher then they will expect.
PSU-Harrisburg does not have Seth LEwis on there roster which hurts the team since he was the player of the year last year.
Wells finally has there roster up and they have a few good players. The player to watch out for it Juan Paulino. He played two years at Finger lakes. first year he averaged 21 pts, 21 rbds, the second year he averaged 17 pts, 20 rbds. He got him self in a little trouble so he dissappered for two years. And they dont have a D1 player from Chicago, the only kid from there playd D2 Juco.
Season starts tomorrow should be a good year:
Perdications:
PSU-Berks vs Rutgers-Camden: Berks wins by 6 (with Askew). If Askew isn't back then i think Rutgers will pull out the win.
Wells vs Alfred- Wells will start there program off with a win, probably by 15
D'Youville vs Lancaster Bible- Easy win for DYC, should be up by 20 at half and wont look back.
SUNY Cobleskill vs SUNY Oneonta- Lost to many players, Oneonta wins by 18-20
Cazenovia vs Utica- Utica returns alot, Utica wins by 10
Sunday:
Wells vs PSU-Harrisburg- Wells wins another game by 15
Tuesday
SUNY IT vs Paul Smith- Starts the year with the NEAC playing a light weight, should be easy win for IT
Keuka vs SUNY Canton- Going to be a tough game for Keuka, so thats why i think Canton will win by 8-10
Is Askew back with Berks? I saw him play a couple years ago in Buffalo and I thought he was pretty good.
Wells has a loaded roster that looks good on paper for a first-year program. They are huge up front (6-10, 6-6., 6-6). They are a surprise team in this league.
Harrisburg also has a new coach. If they don't have Lewis and Hitz they will be in trouble. Neither is listed on their web site roster.
Interesting to see Smith from Keuka transferred to Caz. That hurts one NEAC program while strengthening another. He should help make up for the loss of Latendress.
SUNY IT will be a factor, but to say they should win it hands down just because they came from the SUNYAC is a stretch. Remember, they were pounded in the SUNYAC. It is not like Brockport or Geneseo joining this league.
I will be at the DYC game tomorrow and report back. I guess they won their exhibition game over a Canadian school by nearly 40. I don't have any details on it however.
I think if askew is back he will be battling Paulino (wells) and Walker (DYC) for player of the year award.
Don't worry about the 6'10 kid, he didn't play alot of mins at Homer High School, so the only thing the kid has going for him is he is tall. I saw him play, no basketball skills, might be good in a few years with alot of work.
Well i live in Utica, so i will be swinging in to watch the Caz game. I will let you know how they do and how they should compare to the rest of the league.
Good Luck NEAC
What do you know about this Paulino kid from FLCC?? What happened to him and did he drop out? How in the world is he going to cut it academically at Wells?? That is a pretty elitist school. Looking at their team pix on the web site ... I can't imagine it reflects the profile of the entire student body!
I know he is good, He was a beast at FLCC and alot of big schools wanted to give him a scholarship to play but he couldnt get by the NCAA academic rules. But i know wells let anyone in to get the program going. The kid from TC3 barely had a 2.0 and he got into wells. They let everyone in
paulino isnt eligble till the 2nd semister..so wells will prob struggle till then but they do have talent...just a youung team to win with....a lot of turnovers i saw on there stat sheets on wells.edu...tonight they play hilbert...they need a win
I saw D'Youville Saturday and they really struggled against a decent Lancaster Bible squad. The Spartans jumped out 23-10 by pressing and trapping ... then they fell apart. Had trouble scoring, missed a ton of jump shots and turned it over like it was their job. Maybe I have overestimated this team. They did not look too good at all and they are small. No sign of Butler (last year's starting center) and Kowalski was on the bench in street clothes again. A couple of the frosh looked promising and started, but overall they lacked a lot. Maybe middle of the pack in the NEAC judging by this performance.
Wells got there first win ever tonight defeating Hilbert 77-59....Darrell had 25 pts(Chicago)JR....greg jones 20(VA)FR.wells is 1-2 now and could easily be 3-0

NEAC has the AQ this season.
SUNY-Morrisville (http://www.uscho.com/news/college-hockey/id,16513/ThisWeekinSUNYAC.html) to join the NEAC.
Third-year provisional in 2008-09.
Does UDallas have a two-year deal? SUNY-Morrisville could fill the void.
I think that College of St Elizabeth (NJ) is the other team that joins the NEAC in 2009-10.
Quote"...The NEAC has also accepted four associate member institutions and will be adding two additional full members in 2009-2010...."
http://www.neacsports.com/Admin-Facts.shtml
I wondered when that Morrisville move might happen. If SUNYIT, whose programs I would describe simply as "not good", decided to leave the SUNYAC for the NEAC kiddie pool, then Morrisville making the switch is beyond obvious. The 'YAC is not for the faint of heart.
In two years, the Mustangs were 2-30 in league games in men's basketball and 0-32 in women's hoops. As long as the league lets them remain associate members for those 2 "left behind" sports (I think it was ice hockey and field hockey as per the article), then everything is copacetic for them. It reads as if FH had to keep Morrisville around to maintain their auto bid.
Can someone post your NCAA team's profiles in here:

Hello everyone, I hope your enjoying your summer. Just wondering if you heard any news around the NEAC and the teams for next year.
I heard that SUNY IT got Matt Potter from OCC which is good for them because he is 6'6' and could score and rebound for OCC. SO he could play center for them if they wanted to go more fast pace.
Form What I saw on the syracuse forums for high school basketball, Cazenovia got Matt Perry 6'4' from Massena who averaged 16 points a game. Then i found an article on-line that Caz also got a kid named Bobby Rohrig from Vermont who i guess is 6'5" http://www.rutlandherald.com/article/20090218/SPORTS/902180373/-1/RSS10
I wonder what everyone else has got. Hopefully some good talent so this league can grow and be respected
This is what i am guessing
09-10
1- SUNY IT
2- Wells
3- Cazenovia
4- Keuka
5- SUNY Cobleskill
6- PSU-Berks
7- PSU Harrisburg
8- Dallas
9- Morrisville State
10- PSU Abington
Congratulations to new D-III full member, SUNY-Morrisville

Current status of the NEAC...
Thanks to affiliate UDallas, the NEAC will keep its Pool A for another season, as the provisional members work their way thru the provisional pipeline.
2009-10
1- SUNY IT
2- Wells
3- Cazenovia
4- Keuka
5- SUNY Cobleskill (Provisional Member Year #3 #2)
6- PSU-Berks
7- PSU Harrisburg (Provisional Member Year #2 #4)
8- Dallas
9- Morrisville State
10- PSU Abington (Provisional Member Year #1)
Formal press release announcing SUNY-Cobleskill's and PSU-Harrsiburg's promotion should be out in the next 7-10 days. EDIT: Formal press release came this morning (http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?key=/ncaa/ncaa/ncaa+news/ncaa+news+online/2009/division+iii/four+schools+achieve+active+diii+membership+for+2009-10_08_10_09_ncaa_news).
The big news is that PSU-Harriburg jumped "two grades" to move to Year #4!
They could be eligible for full membership in 2010-11 and it might cause the NEAC to reconsider (? dissolve ?) the affiliation that they have with UDallas.
Hearing about another JUCO transfer to SUNY IT. U-ND's Steve Campbell from Herkimer. He is another big body for them at 6'7"
I am sorry but i have given some bad information, Potter is not going to SUNY IT he is going to another tech school. I saw that on the OCC website but it seems Brand Haughton is going to Cazenovia to play basketball
http://www.sunyocc.edu/athletics.aspx?id=4169
I think wells and sunyit will have a battle for 1st place all year as long as wells can keep all there players eligble all year.
I think it will be SUNY IT but i am not sure about wells, have there team will not be able to play first semester and who knows who will be back
Good morning BBALLER, do you have any idea which TECH school Potter is going to.....RIT, Stevens Tech????? Thanks ;)
Potter is going to Wentworth Institute of Technology, i believe it is MA.
Thanks BBALL.......... ;)
Any insight on the NEAC schools now that practice has started. Will Wells have eligibility issues and even then it seems like their coach is a good recruiter. SUNY IT on top...what about Morrisville and Cobleskill, two former JUCO powers in the state that seem to have fallen off since going D3. I see Caz lost a lot to graduation but it is probably the right time for them to be rebuilding anyway after last year.
The Penn State schools are dedicated to athletics and they don't seem to be losing guys after their soph seasons anymore...any word on a surprise from south of NY.
opening weekend perdications:
Nov 15th:
Cobleskill vs Western Conn. St- Cobleskill looks re-loaded but not sure how they will play togather. Conn lost alot and have a young squad so this game could go both ways but i will say Conn by 8.
Cazenovia vs Clarkson. Cazenovia looks to have a young and maybe the biggest team it has ever had, but they will be playing against a good clarkson team. So i say Caz loses by 18.
Wells vs Hartwick- Wells returns its center pieces and if they play they will beat a bad hartwick team by 15.
Abington vs Millersville- Abington will probably lose by 30. I beleive Millersville is a D2 school
Berks vs Alvernia- Berks will lose by 23. Alvernia has been good in the past and NEAC teams dont do well outside of conference.
Man I can not believe this league has an automatic bid. No offense but ur league is made up of a bunch of teams that tried to make it in other leagues but didn't. Give me some feedback I need some controversy, something to battle about..
(oh and you can't count UDallas)

Good morning FreddyState.
The NEAC is one of the really interesting stories in D-III. The "modern" NEAC came together in 2004-05 from the old 5-team NEAC. You may remember the old NEAC was Cazenovia, Medaille, Hilburt, Keuka and D'Youville. When Hibert and Medaille left for the AMCC, the conference re-thought its focus and expanded to pick up all the independents in the northeast, from DC north and eastward.
The interesting thing about this move is that it brought value to some teams that had not been sought as conference members, such as Villa Julie (now Stevenson) Polytechnic, and Philly Bible. It also became the entry point for new NCAA members such as Keystone and PSU-Berks. Many of the 2004-05 members have now been invited to join other conferences as a result of the "Landmark Conference shuffle", when the Landmark Conference plucked 8 teams from other conferences to make its own conference. It was NEAC members that filled some of the voids left after the shufling.
Once the NEAC had an AQ, they began to work with their membership to provide access to the playoffs for their student athletes. The SUNYAC does not offer Tennis, so the NEAC has accepted SUNY-Oneonta as a men's tennis affilaite. The NJAC does not sponsor men's golf, so Rutgers Camden has affiliated in that sport with the NEAC. Medaille has returned to the NEAC as an affiliate in Men's and Women's Lacrosse. Also, the NEAC has a creative agreement with the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) to provide AQ access in multiple sports via affiliation including baseball.
The UDallas move was brilliant to keep the AQ. UDallas has been an independent since 2001 and wants to get into the SCAC. They will travel anywhere. What the NEAC needed was a "placeholder" as its provisional members came into full membership. When the NEAC has enough full members to maintain the AQ, I sure that the affiliation agreement between the NEAC and UDallas will be revisited. I know that UDallas has benefited from the deal. I think that the NEAC has, too.
The good thing about the conference format and the AQ is that the conference makes competition among peer institutions possible, with the reward being organized conference play and schedules, and access to an NCAA playoff game. Sure you may be the #16 seed in a bracket, but as a Pool A, you get your chance.
SUNYIT looked at its resources and what it could offer as an intercollegiate athletic experience and moved from the SUNYAC to the NEAC. Gallaudet, which joins the NEAC in 2010-11, has determined that their student-athletes may be more competitive in the NEAC than they were in the Capital AC, especially if the Capital AC adds football. Galluadet had its best football season since 1930, by
not competing against teams that are in the Capital.
Here is your argument. Two years ago your boys lost to Morrisville, Hilbert and D'Youville in the same season. Your school pop is 4 x the size, your budget is on average 3-5 x that of these schools. The price of your school is half. The SUNY schools in the NEAC have populations centralized in one or two majors so what you see is what you get.
Your school couldn't compete on the national level either so instead of getting on par with the best teams in your conference you decide to pick on how unfair it is that these smaller schools beat their peer institutions for the #16 seed.
You are bragging about being average - nobody in the NEAC is proclaiming world beater status, just enjoying their experience. Your current run as a contender in the sunyac will be done within a year or two. If enjoying it while it lasts means ragging on small schools, go ahead but in two years you'll be back as the 5th best D3 school in Buffalo.
And the more I think about it - SUNY IT has regularly been a better team than FSU. I see an edge in the series to IT since 02 and that is as far back as I can look. Last year IT beat a cortland team pretty easily that beat Fredonia during the year so even though I wont contend that the neac is a better conference than the sunyac, I would gather that SUNY IT is not a failed experiment in basketball. And most of the schools in the NEAC didn't fail anywhere, this is their only opportunity for a conference and most of the teams recently added sports or took the leap from two-year schools. Give them a couple of years Freddy.
I for one enjoy the "crossover games" between all conferences and just like the A10 compared to the ACC, it makes for a good story every now and then - and if you asked I bet most NEAC coaches would take your budget, facilities and student pop, plus the phys ed majors in the sunyac over a liberal arts, tech or agricultural school and a part time salary.
So make sure FSU doesn't fall off of the map again this year, and don't forget the losses over the years to all of those teams you can't believe have their own conference.
OK enough of the SUNYAC comparison - Fredonia seems to be lost in their own world taking on Davidson this week.
Early on with rosters out and a few games in the bank I thought I would make a run at the rankings:
1. SUNY IT - clear front-runner, I have D. Brown as league MVP after a strong tournament last year and a hot start
2. Wells - seems as though everyone is back, basically a two man show
3. Cobleskill - totally reloaded, playing a tough schedule early on they have some serious size for the league
4. Dallas - I don't know where they will be seeded in the tournament but they are a clear top 4 team to me
5. Keuka - usually a top team they have fallen off a bit, they have some talent though
6. Cazenovia - too young, no go-to scorin threat but a whole lot of size down low and they always grind it out.
7. Abington - I have a strange feeling about the new psu school in town and they played Millersville (d2) fine and a Neumann squad tough that would be a top half contender in this conference
8. Berks - good team in conference last year can't break the top 7 scoring under 50 points a few times this year
8. Morrisville - their shot at rebranding the college seems to be a flop on the athletic side of things, they were much better off as a juco
9. Harrisburg - seems like the step child in the psu/neac family - they don't seem to have the same commitment as berks and abington
SUNYIT moves to 4-0 coming back from an early 21-4 deficit to down Hamilton 82-69. Hamilton hit 9 of their first 10 shots including 3 treys but Wildcats claw their way back with a 21-4 run of their own to tie the game at 25 with 7:00 left in the 1st half. The teams went into the break still tied at 36. Back and forth play for the 1st few minutes of the 2nd until Floyd Thorne layup gives the Wildcats a 41-39 lead they would never relinquish. Up 69-65 with 4 minutes to play Diloo Brown hits back to back 3 pointers sandwiched around a Hamilton miss to extend the lead to 10 with 2:14 left. SUNYIT hit 7 straight free throws down the stretch to close out the Continentals. Brown and David Golembiowski shared the game's high scoring honors with 24 pts each to lead the Wildcats. Brown who came up just short of a rare triple-double added 12 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and a block with only 2 turnovers. Golembiowski's stat line also included 7 boards, 5 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals, with no turnovers. Thorne chipped in with 16 pts on 4x4 fg, 1x1 3's, 7x10 ft.
Hamilton placed 3 players in double figures led by Dayne Harris with 15 pts and 8 rebounds. Pat Sullivan scored 14 pts and Jay Simpson added 10.
The Wildcats have now beaten a contender from all 3 of NY's D3 leagues. Would have been interesting to see would this team would have done in the SUNYAC this year. They'll take on a couple of SUNYAC Red Dragons with back to back games against Cortland and then Oneonta on Dec 18th and 21st.
See where it was announced today that Diloo Brown was named NEAC Player of the week. This was for the period ending Nov 23rd. His stats for the 2 games during that period were, 21.5 pts per game, 12.5 rebounds per game and 7.5 assists per game. Pretty good numbers that will usually get you the weekly award in any league . For the period ending Nov. 30th Brown has exceeded those figures in the 2 games that took place this past week. He averaged 25.0 pts per game 9.5 rebounds per game, and 9.0 assists per game. Sounds like he might get back to back weekly honors. I believe Dave Golembiowski was a D3hoops pre-season
All-American, (and he's having a pretty good season himself so far) but Brown might end up with a post season award, if he continues to shine like he has. Saw both Brown and Golembiowski play 2 years ago when they were in the YAC and they were impressive then. Hope the Wildcats have a great year.
Hey guys Im back...I dont really understand ur arguments because I wasnt saying that Fredonia has been better than SUNYIT i was just saying morrisville, abington, berks, cobleskill, harrisburg come on!!! Thats like me picking the best team out of the sunyac... Yea I know SUNYIT is good and Im not saying Fredonia has been amazing but I am saying the SUNYAC is much much better league and fredonia competes. I guess everyone and every conference has to start somewhere good luck and hope SUNYIT does well this year
Man, the worst kind of poster is the one that only talks their team up and then when they struggle, disappear off of the board, it wastes everyones time. Actually Freddy - you said you can't believe this league has an automatic bid because it is made up of teams that couldn't make it in other conferences. There are only two teams in this league from another conference and one of them is SUNY IT...so I was pretty sure that was one of the teams you were criticizing so I thought I would point out that in comparison to SUNY IT in SUNYAC play, your team is actually the one that struggled in comparison over the years. And I didn't only bring up SUNY IT, I also mentioned that your team has lost to "NEAC" schools regularly. I don't have a team but I know about both conferences. What if every year when you were losing to D'Youville and Medaille, that the SUNYAC decided that you were not good enough to be in their basketball conference.
As for Morrisville and Cobleskill, they didn't decide to go division III until they became powerful NJCAA teams and the transition was in line with their College's move to four year academic programs. Wells is a pretty good team already and they have been around for what...3 years. Who is to say that in a few years, Wells or Cobleskill do not also represent the NEAC well regionally.
Your comment totally got under my skin because 've heard it before - mostly from schools that could not finish better than 2nd place in their conference. That if the NEAC didn't have an automatic bid, that the extra bid could go to a school from the much, much better conferences so I am happy to point out when each year, the top few NEAC teams would be playoff contenders in all conferences and regularly take down a few regionaly bid contenders each year. This bid gives those schools a fighting chance in recruiting. what is the big deal with having an automatic qualifier for these schools with lower budgets, populations and a much shorter history. The weaker schools aren't winning the conference championship and receiving the auto anyway.
man it really got under my skin...haha.... talk about talking up a team or a conference wow....and ur right about the weaker schools arent winning the conference but the stronger teams are garunteed like 8 to 12 wins a year..im not gonna lie the first comment that I made about the neac was alittle inappropriate and I didnt really mean it the way it came out but ur replies have been just as inappropriate.
ps. Its a DISCUSSION board you are supposed to discuss lol... u must have "wasted" alot of time replying
all those teams that you say freddy loses too all the time are listed below hahaha
all time record against medaille 10-0 (never lost)
vs. SUNYIT 24-14
vs. Hilbert 10-2
vs. D'Youville 4-2
Penn State Harrisburg had a great weekend minus the outcome of the game today. They looked good in both games and were able to pull it out against Cobleskill. With the way they played vs IT today, they EASILY should have beaten them. However, with some missed free throws and a couple of questionable coaching calls, they fell short in overtime. I still think they will be a surprise team this year, and not so much the "step child" of the NEAC.
Well, agreed that I probably went a little too far trying to prove a point and in the end I probably lost some credibility. I don't spend enough time posting to count it as wasted time though, this board is a lot of fun to read I probably shouldn't get in to banter...
So in the end, agree to disagree on having an automatic bid. I think it is good for smaller conferences, just as in Division I.
Oh, and I am looking very wrong on that Harrisburg squad - a few freshman pick ups leading the way.
So I may not only have been wrong, but should change tune about Harrisburg for years to come with 30-35 points a night coming from three freshman.
I will move them as well as Keuka up the list and in turn move Cobleskill and Caz down a few notches...in my book at least

At the very least it has two decent teams and four pretty good players.

NABC selects All-Americans differently than D3hoops. They pick one player from each region for each All-America team. So the best player in each region is 1st team, 2nd best is 2nd team, and 3rd best is 3rd team.
D3Hoops announced this year's All American Teams prior to Saturday's National Championship Game.
Corey McAdam from Nazareth was named to the second team. He was the only player from the East region who was honored. I was surprised that David Golembiowski of SUNYIT was not on the list anywhere. The Preseason All American list had Golembiowski on the 4th team and McAdam on the list of honorable mention players. After the year Golembiowski and SUNYIT had I fail to see why he was omitted from the post season all american awards.
No surprise for the Player of the Year honors as junior guard Steve Djurickovic of Carthage College won that award. Good chance he'll win it next year as well.

Anybody know anything about the new coach at Keuka? Seems like his only head coaching experience is as a freshman coach. Interesting choice. Just looking for some insight.
Obviously wasn't going to be the new coach at Rhodes.
Just wanted to let everyone know that the NEAC has come out with a new website, ( www.neacsports.com ) it looks good. Now only if the teams could look as good as there website.
Buck,
I am alittle surprised with the coaching pick at Keuka, I figured they would have choosen someone who atleast new the area. THe hard part for Keuka is recruiting enough talent to play there and compete against the rest of the New York teams. New York is a tough place to recruit because of the amount of D3 schools. I mean Keuka has to compete with all the rochester schools (Naz, Fisher, RIT, U of R) plus all the state schools. With money being an issue for parents alot of kids will be going to state schools. But maybe this guy is a good X and O kind of guys and can take the low level players and turn them to stars by the time there JR or SR.
Here is a little video of Cazenovia's newest wildcat

D3hoops released their preseason All-American teams today. Only East region player to get mentioned is Dave Golembiowski from SUNYIT who was named to the 4th team. Golembiowski surpassed the 1500 point mark last season and will most likely be one of the few players to top the 2000 point total for his career.

Anyone think Harrisburg can win it all up in NY for the conference tourney? I saw them versus some local MAC teams here in PA and thought they were really good.
The NEAC actually has three teams that are playing really good basketball right now. Wells has won 9 of 10 tens games todate and Morrisville is really talented as well not to mention already beat Harrisburg. Then they will be playing the games in the comfort of their own gym. Gallaudet has the talent to win games as well. The NEAC tournament will definitely be up for grabs. Will be some really good games!!!

I only saw Harrisburg since there are a few MAC teams they played here in Harrisburg but did venture to see them play last week versus Gallaudet. Gallaudet didnt deserve to be on the same floow. Seems like a lot of athletes in your conference. Good luck to all NEAC teams. Wells beast Mville by 20 i just saw and Harrisburg beat them so this should be a great weekend of basketball for you. When is the NEAC tourney?
There are a lot of athletes in the conference and some very good basketball. Anyone can win in the conference on any given night and it is what makes the NEAC so much fun. The tournament is February 21st with one Tuesday night play in game and the that weekend is the four remaining teams vying for the NEAC automatic bid. Should be a really good tournament.
Posting the NCAA matchups for the East Region Teams:
The East region comes out smelling roses as Hartwick, Hobart and NYU all recieve a Pool C bid to the dance. The following eight teams from the East Region are all dancing:
Oswego State--Ithaca--Skidmore--Medaille--Morrisville State--Hobart--Hartwick--NYU
Oswego State as I thought gets to host a first round pod with their opponent being the Endicott Gulls who won the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in the Northeast Region and got a Pool A bid.
Medaille, winners of the AMCC conference will take on Eastern Connecticut who won the Little East Conference from the Northeast Region, in the other game at the Oswego site. So all four teams in the Oswego pod were Pool A winners
Hartwick in a bit of a surprise also gets to host a first round pod as they will take on Farmingdale State from the Atlantic Region. The Rams were the winners of the Skyline conference championship.
The other game at Hartwick will feature the #3 ranked team in the country the MIT Engineers. MIT was the champion of the NEWMAC conference and they will take on the winners of the Liberty League, the Skidmore Thoroughbreds.
Ithaca who won the Empire 8 championship will travel to Staten Island to take on the Saten Island Dolphins, from the Atlantic region and winners of the CUNYAC championship. The other game in that pod will have two Northeast Region schools squaring off as Rhode Island College takes on Salem State. Rhode Island College from the Little East Conference received a Pool C bid, while Salem State won the MASCAC championship.
Hobart will travel to Radnor Pa. home of the #6 ranked Cabrini Cavaliers. The Statesmen will face off against Ohio Wesleyan University who received an at large bid from the Great Lakes Region. The Battling Bishops finished in third place in the North Coast Athletic Conference and bring a 20-7 record into the dance. Host Cabrini will play Castleton State who won the North Atlantic Coference Championship, in the Northeast Region.
NYU a Pool C winner will host the Misericordia Cougars in a first round game. The Cougars, winners of the Middle Atlantic Conference-Freedom are making their first trip ever to the NCAA tournament. The winner of this game will travel to Amherst for a 2nd round matchup. The Lord Jeffs were one of the two teams that received a first round bye. (The other team was Virginia Wesleyan)
The Morrisville State Mustangs, winners of the NEAC championship are making their first appearance in the NCAA tournamnet and will travel to the Middlebury Panthers and face the 4th ranked team in the country.
I don't see a lot of wins here for the East Region. Oswego is a double digit favorite in their matchup against Endicott. NYU will be favored by about 8 points against Misericordia and Hartwick is a slight favorite (5 points) against Farmingdale State. Morrisville State is a 25 point underdog, while Medaille, and Skidmore are both about 10 point underdogs. Ithaca (+7) and Hobart (+3) won't be favored either but upset possibilities are there. Good Luck to all the teams from our region.

Wow first post on this board in nearly four years and it's " no comments" !!!!!!! :o
Here's a team that looks legit, and no one is saying anything. I've seen them play twice, and they killed the team I follow(and they are in the top 25).
Lancaster Bible looks extremely legit but they do not have any good wins besides a great win in Franklin and Marshall by 28 points a 10-2 whos ranked 17th in the country. Lancaster keeps this up they are going to be regionally ranked easily.
Unfortunately, their schedule provides little in way of a challenge, and that lack of a challenge might hurt when it comes to having to play quality teams back to back in the play-offs. Right now they can rest players and take the pressure off players with minor injuries. No one should challenge them the rest of the way in the regular season, and they should be undefeated heading into the NCAA playoffs.
As the basketball spins... there continue to be incredible stories around Division III as we get further into conference schedules. Teams leading conferences that no one suspected, programs finding success with alums at the helm, and Division III making national headlines but not for the obvious reasons. Tonight on Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com), Dave McHugh talks to those still proving people wrong as the season enters the second half.
Dave is in San Antonio for the NCAA Convention, so tonight's show is pre-recorded. Dave talked to most of the guests before some played their midweek games. The pre-recorded show along with podcast will be available starting at 7pm ET here: http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2015-16/jan14

And the Hoopsville Fundraising project is in it's closing days as well, but we have not met the goal. Please consider helping us cover Division III basketball the way it deserves to be covered: http://igg.me/at/hoopsville-fundraiser/x/6029509.
Thanks!
Don't let up now, Lancaster. I want to see what you can do against the big boys in the NCAA tourney. Good luck !
People rarely come in here but congrats to LBC! It's quite an accomplishment, no matter what, to go an entire regular season undefeated!
Glad to see the Chargers won't have to wait to see if the NCAA deemed them worthy enough for a Pool C bid, because they probably wouldn't have gotten one, with all the East teams that are looking for an at large entry.
I watched a large portion of this game and the Chargers can do some damage in the NCAA tournament. I wouldn't want to face them in the first round.
I'm asking all the people that visit this board to take the time to help get the East Region another player in the All Star game that takes place during the Final Four weekend in Salem Virginia. Go to this link and cast your ballot for Kyle Richardson from Plattsburgh State:
http://www.d3hoops.com/notables/2016/03/nabc-all-star-voting
You may have to click the refresh button if the vote totals already show up. So if they are showing a percentage for each player click refresh.
You can vote once for each browser you have, so if you have 2 computers vote on each of them. We can only vote from now until noon on Wednesday, soDON'T wait and DO spread the news to your friends.
We need all the help we can muster to get Kyle to Virginia.
You don't have to be a registered user of the D3hoops website. Just pull up the page go to the link and cast your ballot. So get your wives, girl friends, mistresses, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and every friend you have, or ever did have, to jump online and vote as well. Kyle will need all the help he can get because the other regions have more schools than our region does.
Thanks for your help. 8-)

Six of those schools are in the NEAC... is this a statement of lack of interest from conference SIDS? Geesh...... I'm sure that the players and their families would enjoy seeing where and when they're playing in the upcoming season!!

I don't know about a lack of interest from SIDs in the NEAC Conference but there sure is a lack of interest on this board from a conference that has 13 members playing Men's Basketball. Since the start of the 2009-10 basketball season there have been 44 posts on this board and Dave McHugh and I have made about half of them.
Juniata, SUNY Cobleskill, Medgar Evers, and Pine Manor get their schedules posted..
18 schools who have not yet posted schedule... and it's October!!
Note--- the schedules that D3hoops have for these schools are either incomplete, or blank...
What is St John Fisher, MIT, Stockton, Cal Lu doing on this list????

Stockton is still scrambling for opening tourney participants, but they're short four games, so that doesn't explain all of them.
Green Mountain shows up, cutting our list to 17... SUNYIT promises theirs today... we'll see... ;)

Yep SUNYIT gets posted, as well as Regis (Mass.) and MIT... 14 left on the list
Stockton now posted!!!... 13 remain (including non post time favorite Rust College)!!
St. John Fisher is up...12 remain
I had one coach from the list of 12 send me his schedule on a word document... apologizing that the SID was just too busy... wonder how long it takes to post a schedule? Hard to understand...
Another of the 12 hasn't responded to me, despite being a MAINSTREAM program, and despite the fact that I also informed them that they have a significant discrepancy on their schedule (a game verified by their opponent is missing on their schedule)... again, makes me wonder.....
Hopefan:
Can you forward me the schedule by email or PM me with whatever games we're missing?
And thanks for your help here. I completed the Stockton schedules (men and women) when I saw your post this morning.

Greek,
This could have been the first contest of the new season - pick the school last to produce its schedule; probably still enough time to run it this year.
Gotta be Rust, right?

Yes History tells us Rust is the prohibitive favorite... in an attempt to defy the odds, I have contacted them 6 business days in a row... with very friendly notes... nothing back to me, excuses, apologies, any day now... NOTHING... maybe they just show up unannounced?!
One of the other schools is the one which the Coach sent me the schedule, because the SID was too busy... nope, doesn't count, it's got to be posted...Which of the 5 will finish 2nd? Which SID is 'the busiest'.. or cares the least about his basketball program...
Goucher won't post their's anytime soon... they don't have an SID (Director of Communication) right now... though, I have the schedule, so D3hoops may have it shortly.
Hooooaaaahhhhh.....
Wheelock gets to work and there's is up, though sitting behind the 2015-16 sked.. also concerned they show only 23 games... are they still looking?
SID from another school indicates Thursday or Friday (probably hitting Golf Balls on Wednesday)
Up to 7 emails to Rust with no response
Rust
Goucher
Wells
Wilson
Greensboro
Woohoo Wilson comes through!!! It's up!!! Wells remains missing in the NEAC.
Goucher up, though sitting behind its 2015-16 schedule
So that leaves Wells (they of the Thursday-Friday promise), Greensboro (Why?), and everybody's favorite... Rust
Goucher's won't be shifted until they have an SID (Dir. of Communication) in place and settled. Probably a few weeks.
As promised, Wells Schedule is up
AND YES Greensboro is up too!!!
Leaving... yes... Rust
As always there are a lot of shake ups in the NEAC. 3 New coaches (1 still to be hire), tons of player turn over and one new team to the men's side. North top 3 (no order) Wells, Morrisville and Poly. South top 3 (no order) LBC, Gallaudet and Wilson

Don't know too many SIDs who have time to do that this time of year. (Unless they're also the golf coach.)
Usually I make sure to alert people of who is on Hoopsville prior to the show. Unfortunately, Thursday was a challenge production wise and I was a bit distracted. So, I hope you don't mind finding out after the fact considering you can watch the show On Demand or listen to the podcast(s).
As the season turns from the first to the second half, we are starting to see which teams are doing more than just getting off to good starts. Now conference races are starting to take shape and we get an idea of how the rest of the season may play out.
On Thursday's edition of Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com), Dave chatted with several coaches whose teams are either leading their conferences or in the battle for first place. Are these teams going to still be near the top come late February? What do they have to do to maintain their level of success. Dave even hit the road to Washington, DC to chat with several of his guests.
Dave also talked to a coach who now has the second-most wins in Division III history. Wooster's Steve Moore won his 787th (700th at Wooster) Wednesday night. Moore joined Dave in the NABC Coach's Corner to discuss the incredible milestone and all the milestones along the way.

Dear D3 Faithful ;D,
I have read many of your posts throughout the years and even met some of you in person, but for those who I haven't met, let me introduce myself: my name is Michael Rejniak and I have spent over 14 years coaching Division 3 basketball and love what our division has done and continues to do for the sport of basketball. One of the greatest things about Division 3 basketball is the brotherhood that we all have with one another (coaches and players alike). My wish is to showcase the talents of D3 on a national stage in
The Basketball Tournament (TBT). You may have heard me speak about this on the Hoopsville Marathon with Dave McHugh of D3hoops.com (at the 6:11 mark). The TBT is a national tournament that is televised in July/August on ESPN after the NBA season is over. My goal is to put forth an all-star D3 team (current players are ineligible) and have them compete in this tournament to take on Former D1 / semi-pro's to prove that D3 deserves the same respect as other NCAA divisions. The team is mostly complete with former student-athletes from all over the country competing. Once the roster is complete we will be sure to release it through d3hoops. Former Babson College National Champion Matthew Droney '17 will also be assisting me on this journey.
How YOU can help our former elite D3 basketball players
While the end prize of this tournament is a monetary prize, being a D3-lifer, the goal is not the money (we all know that's not why we get into coaching), the goal is to bring an end to the stigma of Division 3 basketball, an awareness of how talented our student-athletes are and that we can compete (and win) against the best. We do need to raise funds for an entry fee, travel, meal and housing expenses for the athletes. In order to do this, we are conducting a crowd-funding campaign through GoFundMe to help make this a reality. These athletes need your support! Just think -- if every Division 3 school donated just $10, we will have raised over $4,000!!!! The link to the GoFundMe Page is below and please SPREAD THE WORD and email me with any questions/concerns at WeAreD3TBT@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your support and Dave and I look forward to this "D3 Dream Team" taking the court this summer.-Mike Rejniak

The basketball season now finds itself square in the middle of not only the holidays, but also finals. Teams are taking breaks to focus on academics and either not playing until the new year or finding openings to fit in games here and there.
And while the tempo of games subsides a bit, there is still plenty of news swirling around Division III. Tune in as Dave and guests tackle all of the news this week in what should be a jam-packed Hoopsville (http://www.d3hoopsville.com) on Thursday night.
Topics will include the latest news of two Capital Athletic Conference members announcing they are leaving for other conference homes. What is next for the CAC which will be down to just three members by 2021-22 season. The rumors about St. Thomas's future continue to swirl, we at least try and put some of those rumors to rest. And a MIAC president finally speaks out about the decision to push UST out the door. Maybe he should have not said anything.
Plus, there is a new number one team in women's basketball, a team that nearly completed an undefeated season has reemerged, another former champion is showing they may be back in the hunt, and a program we haven't talked about in a long time has made it known they are ready for the season.

Nice article on Jack Anderson, formerly of Keystone, who walked on at Marquette.
In United East conference play yesterday, Penn State Harrisburg defeated Rosemont, 73-55.
This was the only conference game played in DIII this weekend, as most of the DIII action was on the holiday tournaments.
Yesterday, December 22, 2024, was a very light day in DIII-- the absolute last day before the Christmas holiday break, which runs from today through Thursday, with DIII action returning on Friday. In addition to this conference game, the only other news of note was the final day of the 2024 Don Lane Classic at Transylvania U in Kentucky, where the host school lost in the championship game.
No quality win bonuses in the NCAA Power Index were on the line yesterday in this United East conference game between Rosemont and Penn State Harrisburg as of right now, since both teams came into the match with NPI scores below 50, according to D3DataCast. Penn State Harrisburg got an adjusted win game score of 0.9 wins for the conference home victory on the men's home/away multiplier, while Rosemont got an adjusted 1.1 losses for the conference road loss.
Matt Snyder of D3Datacast noted today that the United East conference entered all of the conference tournament games played last night into the NCAA statistics system as non-conference games on today's official NPI report.
Can we clear up whether conference tournament games are considered as conference games for purposes of the home/away multiplier or not? I thought that all conference tournament games counted for a 1.1/1.0/0.9 home/away multiplier on the men's side, not 1.2/1.0/0.8. At least, that is what a lot of us think it is.
Can someone reach out to the RAC representative for the UEC on the Region IV committee to check into this, and correct it if the coding of the UEC tournament games last night was a mistake (which a lot of us in D3Nation believe that it is).
