Looking for any Northern Athletics conference projections for 2006 for women's soccer and/or volleyball. (Don't mean to bark up the wrong tree, but to the best of this writer's knowledge there isn't enough interest to justify a seperate site for volleyball at this point).
No real rush on this.
WLCALUM83
Just got the closest thing to a projection as to how the Warrior women figure to do--and it sounds like this will be a re-building year for them--middle of the pack at best in-conference. ;)
1. Aurora
2. Edge
3. Conc - WI
4. Marian
5. Lakeland
6. Dominican
7. Wi Luth
8. Conc - IL
9. Ben
10. MBBC
11. Rock
12. Alverno
NathCon's poll (http://northernathleticsconf.com/releases/2006_08/20060829c.html) is out. Below is libero's picks and next to them is what the SIDs had to say.
1. Aurora-Aurora
2. Edge-Edgewood
3. Conc - WI-Concordia (WI)
4. Marian-Lakeland
5. Lakeland-Dominican
6. Dominican-Marian
7. Wi Luth-Concordia (IL)
8. Conc - IL-WLC
9. Ben-Benedictine
10. MBBC-Maranatha
11. Rock-Rockford
12. Alverno-Alverno
Teams 1 through 3 may never change during the whole history of the NAC. Aurora's 2nd team could basically win the conference, I hear.
Non-conference final: UW-Platteville women 2, WLC 0. :(
Yeah, but UW-Platt beat MSOE 9-0
Also heard UW Platt throttled Benedictine, 6-0. (Benedictine is WLC's next opponent--if the match can be fit in between all the raindrops).
Platt is better than every team in the NAC except for Edge, Aur, and Conc-W.
9-16 final: WLC 1, Lakeland 1 in OT.
Either Lakeland is down or WLC is playing really well.
9-23 projections:
1 --WLC over Alverno
2 --Edgewood over Aurora (the Eagles have home field here.)
3 --Concordia WI over Dominican
4 --Lakeland over Maranatha
5 --Concordia, Chicago over Rockford
6 --Marian over Benedictine
My Picks:
WLC over Alverno (but Alverno will score)
Aurora over Edgewood (AU could win games on the men's side of the conference)
Conc - Wi over Dom
MBBC over Lakeland (surprise upset)
Conc-Chi over Rock (will there even be a match?)
Marian ties Ben (Ben's keeper is good)
9/23 Finals:
Aurora 4, Edgewood 1.
Benedictine 3, Marian 0.
WLC 6, Alverno 0. (Way to get off the schneid, Warrior women!) :)
Lakeland 2, Maranatha Baptist 0.
Concordia Chicago 14, Rockford 1
(Couldn't get the final on Dominican/Concordia WI)
Concordia WI women 2, Dominican 1.
9/27 final: Dominican 2, WLC 0.
The last goal was in the 90th minute when WLC was probably all pushed up. Dom continued to squeak out victories because of Mayra and their keeper.
9/30 NAC Women's picks:
Rockford over Alverno ??? (on paper this is the closest the Regent women get to a win, it's at home).
Concordia- WI over Benedictine
Aurora over Concordia- Chicago
Edgewood over Dominican
Lakeland over Marian
Maranatha over WLC.
Final: WLC 1, Maranatha 0. (I'm eating my crow on this one with a smile.) :D
10-04 final: Edgewood 5, Benedictine 1.
10-05 final:
Marian 1, WLC 0. (Ouch!) ???
10-06 Final:
Wheaton IL 5, Aurora 0.
10-07 Picks:
Concordia-WI over WLC
Maranatha over Marian
Edgewood over Lakeland
Benedictine over Concordia-Chicago
Dominican all over Rockford (even Alverno got 14 goals on Rockford--and the Inferno were on the road yet! ??? ??? ???) Guess I really ended up eating crow on that one!
10-07 finals:
Concorida WI 4, WLC 0.
Edgewood 1, Lakeland 0.
Maranatha Baptist 2, Marian 1.
Belated 10/14 finals:
Dominican 9, Alverno 0.
Edgewood 7, Maranatha 0.
Lakeland 9, Rockford 0.
WLC 2, Concordia-Chicago 1. (The Warriors are still in the neighborhood, but they're going to need a lot of help to crack the top 6.)
10/17 NAC finals:
Aurora 1, Lakeland 0.
Dominican 2, Benedictine 0.
Maranatha 3, Concordia-Chicago 2
Concordia-WI 4, Alverno 0
Edgewood 7, Marian 1
WLC 9, Rockford 1. (Believe it or not, the Warriors are still in contention, but I'm not expecting it to last, their last 2 NAC matches are against tough teams and the teams they're battling with have easier NAC matches yet. Still, given this was supposed to be a re-building year for the women anyway, I'm not complaining much.)
The first NCAA regional rankings are out and posted in the Central Region Rankings area. This poll is the only one to use when wondering about Pool B and Pool C candidates.
WLC still has a great chance for the NAC tourney. Ben has to lose to or tie Alverno, though. . .
10/20-21 Finals:
Concordia-Chicago 2, Marian 0.
Edgewood 2, CUW 1
Benedictine 2, Alverno 1 OT (ouch!)
Lakeland 2, Dominican 1 (2 OT)
Maranatha 17, Rockford 1
NathCon All-Name Women's Team (Soccer & Volleyball).
Soccer:
Katherine Craze-Alverno (speaks for itself).
Emily Storm-Alverno (did she have her best game vs. Rockford, per chance?)
Juliane Finn-Alverno (would have been a natural for Lakeland-"Muskies")
Megan Crowe-DF--CUW (speaks for itself).
Angela Pane-FD--CUW (how much of a "pain" is she to opposing defenses?)
Jennifer Harley-DF--MBBC (a natural if she intends to own a motorcycle one day)
Lauren Spurr-DF--Aurora (perfect if she's the inspirational leader).
Amy Enter-DF--WLC--(extremely apt this season--she's "entered" the penalty area often enough to be second on the Warrior women's team in goals).
Volleyball:
Kim Bond-OH MBBC Bond, Kim Bond!
Jill Smart-OH Aurora -- May Don Adams rest in peace.
Kim Linger-MH Lakeland (likes to hang out near the net and move in for a volleyball kill. Leads the Muskie squad in avg kills at just less than 2.5)
Meghan Carson-Alverno (if this kid's into doing monologues, with Ed McMahon unavailable, have the Inferno mascot take his place.)
Jacklyn Sack-L WLC (speaks for itself).
Jessica Judge-S Benedictine, IL (just been doing that type of thing on a different "court").
Ba dumm bumm.
10-22 NathCon final:
Aurora 7, WLC 0.
3 team race for the last spot between MBBC, Benedictine and WLC.
WLC gets Edgewood at home
Maranatha gets Aurora at home
Benedictine gets Lakeland on the road.
On paper, I go with Benedictine.
(Depends on how long everyone keeps their starters in).
Already in:
Aurora
Concordia, WI
Dominican
Edgewood
Lakeland
Out: Concordia-Chicago
Marian
Alverno
Rockford
10/24 final:
Edgewood 5, WLC 0. :( (The Warrior women are done).
MBBC is the better team of the three, but lost to WLC 1-0 while outshooting them 27-7 (or something like that) and tied Alverno 2-2 while outshooting them 38-6 (or so). It pays to finish.
Ben has had an interesting season.
Alverno has come on strong lately. They took Ben to OT last week.
I think MBBC can get in with a win over Aurora. . .not likely.
10/25 Finals:
Lakeland 1, Benedictine 0.
Aurora 7, Maranatha 0.
The Eagles get in as the #6 team.
In: Aurora
Edgewood
CUW
Dominican
Lakeland
Benedictine
New NCAA Rankings posted
Hey!! Our conference tournament matchups and times are on d3kicks.com. Nice PR when you can get it, eh? :) ;) :D :) ;) :D :) ;) :D
NathCon Tournament final:
Dominican 1, Lakeland 0. (on a 90th minute Myra Camacho goal yet! What a heartbreak!)
CUW 4, Benedictine 0.
Dom has been doing just enough to win all year. No one is taking down Aurora though.
NathCon Women's Semi-Final results:
Aurora 3, Dominican 1
CUW 1, Edgewood 0 (2 OT)
CUW vs. Aurora in the final.
If Aurora loses the final, does that team still get in?
I think they still have a chance at a bid, but most likely they will not. They have had a good season, but their strength of schedule does not stack up well against a lot of the other schools.
No worries though, AU will win and it won't be close. Edge probably matched up against them the best and now they are out. . .
I would argue that Aurora's Pool C chances are fairly slim. 4 losses is tough to overcome. As libero says, they ought to just win and win big.
The national tourney has increased to 60 teams - 19 pool C bids are in play. AU just might squeak in. I think the soft NAC schedule will end their chances. A final against Edge would have given them a better shot.

Now Libero, you may be right about AU winning, but don't get too ahead of yourself. As a spectator of all NAC games, dominican had thier chance but it went away, and the game between edgewood and cuw was tough. Edgewood didn't match up against AU very well the first time they played them, in fact cuw did better against AU than Edgewood did. (AU:4 vs EC:1 and AU:3 vs CUW:1) And shown on tuesday, cuw was the better team than edgewood and deserves to be in the championship. Nothing against anyone on the edgewood team because they have great players on the team, but in the end CUW came out on top, especially since they only played each other only 10 days earlier. It was a tough conference for the top 4-5 teams in the NAC, but the two teams in the championship game deserve to be there. Good luck to both teams!!!
You make some good point, however, I will predict that AU wins this one 3-0. Conc-W and Edge have always played great games against each other in the tournament. One of the best was the LMC final in 1998 or 1999 that almost went 30 min. of overtime before CUW was able to get the game winner. A great game in a great venue - Breese Stevens.
NathCon tournament final: Aurora 4, CUW 1.
As a viewer of the Championship game today, AU really were in it from the beginning. CUW was a totally different team, and played a different game than they did against Edgewood. Overall, it was a good match, and the better team came out on top. AU really put their hearts in it, and it showed in their play. Hats go off to them for a great season....undefeated in conference play!
Conc-W knew they had a chance against Edge - no chance against AU no matter how well they played. Playing Conc-W in the final instead of Edge, may have hurt AU in the tourney selection process.

Now please explain to me why it hurt Aurora to play CUW rather than Edgewood...a win is a win. Is it because EC is ranked higher than CUW overall? And plus it didn't just come down to that game....if they would have had more wins in the beginning there wouldn't be a question in their going to the tournament. The NCAA looks a lot for favorable on the non-conference games than they do on conference games. No matter what happens to AU they played a heck of a season and it's a great way to go out for the seniors!
Looks like the Aurora women got in per NCAA Div III site: :) ;) :D :) ;) :D 8) 8) 8)
Anyone want to chime in on the Aurora-Wheaton IL match?
I expect it to be closer than the earlier 5-0 win by Wheaton - but Wheaton will pull it out.

A win is not always just a win. Last year, AU defeated two NIIC teams in their conference tourney and their QWI (quality of win index) went
down. Who you play is sometimes more important than if you win. There are many teams who could go undefeated and still not make the NCAA tourney because their schedule is too easy.
NCAA Tournament Final just in:

Marian College put out a press release indicating they've hired a new women's soccer coach.
Looks like Concordia-Chicago is going to be hunting for at least one soccer coach as well:

Just heard about a Milwaukee-area prep player headed Concordia-WI's direction:

Bre Moulton from Watertown is also headed for Conc-WI

NAthCon Women's Soccer Exhibition Finals:
Concordia-Chicago 2, Robert Morris, IL 1
Marian 5, Robert Morris 0.
Marian 3, Cardinal Stritch 1
Marian could be solid. 5-0 against Lake County doesn't mean much, but 3-1 against Stritch is impressive.
8-31 NAthCon Score:
UW-Whitewater 2, Benedictine 0.
Aurora 1, Westminster 1
Dubuque 6, MBBC 1

Edgewood 2 - 0 Benedictine
Aurora 5 - 0 Concordia Wisconsin
MSOE 4 - 3 Wisconsin Lutheran
Dominican 6 - 0 Marian
Maranantha 13 - 0 Rockford
Lakeland 2 - 0 Concordia Chicago
Some surprising results this year with some teams that are very up and some teams that are down quite a bit.
Anyone have any feedback after seeing some any teams in the conference this week play out their first game or two?
NAthCon In-Conference Results from 9/12-13:
9-12: Aurora 6, Benedictine 1
Dominican 8, Concordia Chicago 0.
Edgewood 3, Concordia WI 1
Marian 2, Lakeland 0
WLC 9, Rockford 0 :) ;) :D
9-13: MSOE 2, Maranatha 1
(After reading the 9-15 results, IMHO, Benedictine's 0-2 start is deceiving because that squad has had tough teams its' first 2 games. Rockford is down and CU-Chicago is probably in re-building mode. At this early stage, watch out for MSOE and Marian if both those teams keep winning.)
Lakeland's 2-0 loss to Marian is surprising, but I really wonder about Dominican's 6-0 drubbing of Marian. DU could ber really good this year (and Mayra is not doing the scoring).
9/18 Women's NAthCon Scores:

Either Ben's keeper is incredible or Conc-W is really bad at finishing. Conc-W have had a brutal schedule early it will be interesting to see if they get back on track.
Both Lakeland and CUW can turn things around in a hurry.
MBBC/WLC is always a very tight match.
How does Alverno score two on MSOE?
I think Edg is going to give AU a run for the money this year.

After factoring in the 10/13 results, it appears that Alverno, Rockford and WLC have been eliminated from NAthCon post-season tournament contention.
10/16-18/07 Women's NAthCon Soccer Finals:
10/16: Aurora 6, Alverno 0
Benedictine 5, WLC 1
Concordia-Chicago 6, Rockford 3
Lakeland 2, Maranatha 0.
Non-Conference:
Lawrence 3, Marian 2.
10/17: Dominican 3, Lake Forest 2
10/18: Aurora 6, North Park 0.
Aurora and Edgewood have clinched NAthCon in-conference post-season tournament berths.
10/20/07 NAthCon Women's Soccer Finals:
Benedictine 4, Marian 3
Concordia-WI 1, WLC 0
Concordia-Chicago 1, Maranatha 0
Edgewood 9, Alverno 0
Dominican 2, MSOE 1
With these results, Dominican moves up to 3rd place, and there's a real logjam after that among Benedictine, MSOE, Concordia-WI and Lakeland for the remaining spots.
Concordia-Chicago, Maranatha and Marian have been eliminated from NAthCon post-season tournament contention. (Marian could still tie Concordia-WI, but the Falcons would advance by virtue of having beaten the Sabers 6-2 head-to-head).
10/22 Women's NAthCon Soccer Final:
Edgewood 3, MSOE 0.
10/24-27/07 Women's NAthCon Soccer Finals:

Marian 8, Concordia-Chicago 2
MSOE 7, Rockford 0
Aurora 1, Edgewood 0
Benedictine 3, Lakeland 0
Dominican 1, Maranatha 0
With those results, the following teams are in the NAthCon post-season tournament: Aurora, Edgewood, Dominican, Benedictine, MSOE and Concordia-WI
Barring upsets, injuries and other unforeseen developments, does anyone think the NAthCon gets more than one women's team in the NCAA D3 tournament?

no
Maybe Concordia and Aurora - depending on the outcome of the Tourney of course. Also, watch for the NCAA Regional Rankings that will be released on 10/31/07.
Central Region Rankings: (10/24)
1. Wheaton (Illinois) 14-0-0 17-0-0
2. Washington U. in St. Louis 8-1-0 12-1-0
3. Wisconsin-Eau Claire 14-1-2 14-1-2
4. Wisconsin-Stevens Point 12-3-1 12-3-1
5. Concordia-Moorhead 11-2-1 12-2-1
6. St. Benedict 13-3-0 13-3-0
7. Carthage 9-1-0 14-2-0
8. Aurora 15-1-0 15-2-1
9. Chicago 7-4-3 8-4-3
10. Carleton 11-4-0 11-4-0
11. Carroll (Wisconsin) 12-2-1 12-2-1
Nationwide there are 18 spots for teams that don't win their conference tournament. Unless someone upsets Aurora in the tournament, there definitely not be two NathConf teams in the NCAA's. Also, if Aurora loses in the tournament, that could knock them out of the rankings all together, leaving only on team anyway. Neither Edgewood nor CUW have in region results that will allow them to advance as "pool C" teams.
NAthCon First-Round Women's Soccer Results:
Dominican 2, MSOE 0.
Concordia-WI 1, Benedictine 0.
Semi-Final Matchups:

Edgewood/Dominican
Big upset tonight:
#3 seed Dominican over #2 seed Edgewood
I think Edgewood's tournament hopes just went up in smoke. They have been having trouble scoring lately. Their last three games:
W v MBBC 1-0
L v Aurora 0-1
L v Dom 1-2
Only two goals in three games. Not a typical Edgewood run.
Aurora 2, Concordia-WI 1 in the other NAthCon tournament Semi-Final:

NAthCon Women's Soccer Tournament Championship Final:

The Aurora v Chicago matchup is compelling.
Chicago is 11-4-3 with one of the most difficult schedules out there - possibly the most difficult in the Central Region.
Aurora is 19-2-1 with a relatively easy schedule. Any predictions?
This poster's going with the Maroons.

Also two very good coaches, different personalities, but both have been successful building programs over the long haul. I think it will be a one goal game either way, but Chicago has a big advantage in terms of experience in tough matches.
Look at the results for both sides versus Wheaton earlier in the season. I think this will be a tough match for the Spartans.

wow you picked a one goal game in soccer!!! I'm taking you to Vegas!
Chicago 1, Aurora 0, in OT.
Now its Stevens Point versus Chicago to see who plays Wheaton. Chicago can win this one if they play their game, but they have to contain the speed of the Pointers.
Pointers on penalties - D1 transfer Jackie Spees hits the winning PK . . . a pretty tough date with Wheaton up next.

Wow. I don't know anything about Alverno as I am very new to this D3 soccer scene, but I've seen Concordia Chicago play (against Augustana) earlier this year, and I can't believe Concordia beat anybody, let alone 4-1.
I don't know how to put this delicately, but there must be some bad teams out there.
Alverno had 2 of its' key players go down due to injury in an earlier contest. To the best of my knowledge, the Inferno sports programs, for the most part, haven't been in existence as long as, for example, Lakeland's or Concordia-WI's.

Alverno has had soccer for at least a decade, but without a full-time coach (or a coach who is on campus full time) and without support from the school they struggle across the board. FWIW, I think Alverno has amazing potential within the NAC.

EC is in with the AQ. Does anyone think AU has a chance for a Pool C? I fear not.
Edgewood's first-round opponent? UW-Stevens Point.
Pointers season stats can be found here:

Live Stats for Edgewood/UWSP: http://sidearmstats.com/edgewood/wsoc/
UW-Stevens Point 6, Edgewood 0.
Eagles had a tough early draw. I read from a press release that the Pointers have the 6th highest scoring offense of all the Women's D3 teams in the land.
The Pointers are a high scoring team, no doubt.

I will be at the Augie/Edgewood game tomorrow night and will chime in with results.
Final score: Augie 3 - 0. This was Edgewood's first home loss in 17 games dating back to 10/31/06. Augie controlled this game in every facet, out-shooting Edgewood 23-5 and 15-0 in corners. Edgewood hung tough though, keeping the score 0-0 at the half.
But in the second half, Augie finally pounced on a few loose balls and put it away. The third goal was a fluke, as Edgewood had just put in their backup freshman keeper and she bobbled the ball with an obvious bout of nerves. She was very impressive after that, making at least 4 point blank saves. I initially felt bad for her, but after seeing her bounce back with some beautiful saves, she'll be fine.
Edgewood scores twice in the final 10 minutes (both by freshman Abby Moder) to beat Ripon 4-3. Moder finishes with 3 goals.

Other 9/5 Finals:
Beloit 4, WLC 0
Nebraska Wesleyan 4, Lakeland 0
Northland Int'l 4, Alverno 1
Robert Morris-Lake County 2, Rockford 0
Glad to hear WLC's women got off the schneid:
Alverno (3-1) gets Concordia-WI on the road in its' in-NAthCon opener--that'll give the Inferno's new staff a measuring stick to see how far it'll need to go.
9/12 Finals:
Concordia-WI 6, Alverno 0
North Central-IL 6, WLC 0
Benedictine 5, Lakeland 1
MSOE 18, Rockford 0 (Rockford had only 7 players available, 14 goals scored in 1st half, per MSOE box score).
Marian 4, Concordia-Chicago 0
Viterbo 4, Maranatha Baptist 0
9/16 Finals:
WLC 11, Rockford 1 :D :D
Marian 9, Lakeland 2 (Marian-7 second half goals per box score off Saber site)
Beloit 5, Alverno 0 (Inferno outshot 19-6 per Alverno press release)

Maranatha 5, WLC 0
Dominican 3, Lakeland 0
Edgewood 2, Concordia-Chicago 0

Alverno 1, Benedictine 0

Good for Alverno. Maybe 2 in a row?
Some 10/3 NAthCon finals:
Marian U 4, WLC 0
Concordia-WI 2, Concordia-Chicago 1
Maranatha 5, Alverno 0
Aurora 2, MSOE 0

Marian U 6, Alverno 0
MSOE 2, Benedictine 1
Dominican 2, CUW 1
Edgewood 12, Rockford 0
WLC 1, Lakeland 0
Some separation between the top 6 and everyone else at this point.
News about a scoring milestone reached at MSOE here:
http://northernac.org/releases/2009/2009_10/20091010a.html

In fact, the six NAC Tournament participants are already clinched. MSOE, AU, DU, MU, CUW and EC.

NAthCon Tournament Champs--Aurora --which knocked off Dominican 2-0 in the final!
Actually, it was 1-0 in double overtime.
Per NCAA Tournament Bracket --
Aurora's got a tough draw in the 1st Round-- a match-up with U of Chicago.
First Chicago, then either Wheaton or a very scrappy Carleton team. Tough bracket.
Here's news about an opportunity for an Alverno assistant coach:
http://northernac.org/releases/2010/2010_01/20100118b.html
I can't find a link for it, but Marian's coach Michelle Jacob is moving on to be the first ever head coach of Michigan Tech's new women's soccer program.

First Round NAthCon Tournament Pairings:
#6 Marian @ #3 Edgewood

Aurora and Dominican have byes.
Tomorrow's MSOE/Edgewood match-up will feature 2 of the leading goal scorers in the NAthCon. MSOE's Axt (25 goals) and Edgewood's Gerry (12 goals). Both defenses figure to be tested a lot here.

Final: Edgewood 2, MSOE 1 (NAthCon match stats indicate Axt scored MSOE's goal, while the Eagles' Gerry was credited with an assist on one of their goals)
NAthCon site indicates 5 teams have clinched conference tournament berths: Aurora, CUW, Edgewood, Dominican, Marian
4 squads are fighting for the last spot: MSOE, Benedictine, CUC, Lakeland
Their remaining schedules:
MSOE: vs. Lakeland, @ Benedictine, vs. Aurora
Benedictine: vs. MSOE, @ CUC
CUC: @ WLC, vs. Benedictine
Lakeland: @ MSOE, vs. WLC, vs. Edgewood
With 2 more wins, MSOE gets the last spot. 1 more MSOE win and CUC and Lakeland would be eliminated.
After tonight's finals, it's down to a two-team race for the last playoff spot.
Benedictine is still alive, but the IL Eagles have to win their last 2 and have MSOE lose twice.
(In that scenario, Benedictine would win on a tie-breaker).
