Title: A VERY BIG Thanks do the D III Sports Team!!!
Post by: Teamski on December 19, 2007, 11:19:54 AM
I don't see it anywhere else here, but I wanted to thank the D III crew, Pat Coleman, Keith McMillan and crew for the absolutely outstanding job they do to promote D III football.  Without you guys, D III would be rather faceless.  It was great seeing Keith in the box at the Wesley games.

The amount of information and knowledge gleaned from the site and it's podcasts is simply irreplacable.   Being the new boy on the block, I know that without the crew, I would be completely clueless.   Once again, thanks for being there for all of us fans out there in D III land!!   :)

I may have spent "alot of time complaining" this year, but I don't want you all to think that I don't appreciate the work of the Three Amigos! (is it still permissible to say that?  Don't want to get Imus'd or anything...)

I covered D3 football for a lot of years before d3football.com.  And, believe me, it was no picnic.  Getting a two-deep that actually had THIS year's players on it was a chore in and of itself.

So, on this Christmas Eve Eve, let me add my ditto's (mega and otherwise) to what's been posted.

Gentlemen (and the ladies that tolerate all that they do--that'd be YOUR ladies, not mine), thank you, and have a great holiday!

Thanks to all of you.

It is nice to see you all posting in the offseason. Means someone will be here to read the Year In Review installments when they finally post, and I am not wasting holiday nights working on them for nothing.

In all honesty, without you, the interested parties, our work would be rather useless, so thank you as well.

Thanks to Keith, Gordon, Pat and all at D-3football.com for all you do to add to the D-3football experience for players, families and fans. Your site has allowed me and my family to make friends across the country and helped add to so many wonderful memories that will never be forgotten!   Thanks for everything!

Same from this guy. By the way, I see postings from people like Ralph Turner, Bob Gregg and others, and admit to my ignorance of just who they are and how they fit into the mix. I have a feeling, based on their posts, that they have been around here for a long time, and have some great institutional knowledge that they often share with us. Any one place where I can get a little bio info on these and others like them?

Is this your way of saying they sound old?  :P  (and who else is in that group?  Am I?)

You young whippersnapper!  ;D

Watch who you're calling young! :D I was issued a leather helmet my freshman year in high school. I never wore it since we did get in some new plastic ones before the first practice. I'm reletively new to the site though (3 years or so) It just seems that some of the contributors use their real names, and seem to be a part of the site in at least an auxilliary way.

I became active on the message boards in 2000.

When I was deciding on a screen name, I noted that some of the posters whom I admired most were those who had used their real names.  I appreciated their posts for the content and their contributions to the discussion, their enthusiasm for D-III, and their "I sure would like to go to a D-III game with that guy" demeanor.

David Collinge, Gregory Sager, Titan Q (Bob Quillman of the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans as deduced from his email address) and Warren Thompson were my inspiration.

Over the years, I think there has been a persistent fraction of posters who have used their real name or their professional identity (e.g., tu_sid for the Trinity TX SID).  These include Matt (the "kid") Barnhart, Ron (Bedtime for Bonzo) Boerger, Ric (Brienza of Mount Union fame) who have used a nickname or moved to their real name as we have come to know them better.  (There are numerous others, too.)  Using your real name does give a straightforward forthright impression to what you post.

I don't know if we will ever know the impact that these web sites have had on D-III sports, but I wouldn't want to go back to when I did not know they existed!   ;)

Yet my user name is my online presence everywhere so I want to keep it consistent and I don't think I have credibility issues anywhere.

Same here. I use this name (or a similar form of it) on most of my message boards. Almost everybody on the East Region boards knows who I am anyway.

My comment on using my real name as my handle was oriented in the nature of the boards in 2000 and 2001.  Sheriff Warren Thompson had just cleaned out the varmints on the MAC boards, as the story goes.  I understand that he was a legend back when these boards were really wild! ;)

Ron, I hope that I didn't call you out!  Sorry if I did!   :-\

I greatly respect the names that I mentioned.  They have each contributed much to the growth of our division.

I was pretty happy posting under a handle until I started doing a regional column, at which point I thought it was best to use my name.  It wasn't worth changing again after stepping down.

Sounds like a familiar arc. :) That's what I've done since doing an ATR this year. Can't really explain why. Maybe I just felt I wanted to make sure people who didn't know me would make the connection between my column and the boards.

Mercy!  Yesterday I was a mere "inspiration," today I'm a "legend." I'm positively giddy with all the encomiums, I tell ya ....  :o

[Truth to tell, I sometimes miss the good old bad days when the 'varmints" ran wild, but I doubt Webmeister Pat does.  ;D]

JT is the first initial of my first name (given) and middle initial.  I usually go by Tom or JT in most circles.  Since I'm a Jr.,  the J "Jack" is only for legal stuff, since Jack is my Dad.

Pep uses a handle but anyone wanting to know who Pep is can easily check Pep's profile to find Pep's e-mail address contains Pep's actual last name and first name initial and Pep's affiliation with Alfred University, Pep's Yahoo instant message contains Pep's first name, Pep's AIM screenname reveals his other occupation, and Pep randomly rambles on about his award-winning pep band, his bandwagon with more than 287,000 miles, Alfred University football history and, of course, the (legendary) AU Coach Alex Yunevich.

Since we're in the off-season, perhaps D3 football fans have a little more time for some entertainment. But then there's "The Writers' Strike."

http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/17cc3b30d6

Can one imagine if there were "A Posters' Strike" and D3football.com's addicted posters, sought other outlets for their expressions....bathroom stall walls beware!

I post/blog three places primarily:

d3football.com
Pasportsboards.net
wrestlingreport.com

And I use my name, for no other reason than that's who I am, and, as the inquiry went, it's who I've been for a long, long time.

I 'member the varmints.  Several of them critters used to live 'round these parts.  That is, til the meister shot 'em up!...

I use K-Mack because it's significantly shorter than my real name, and waaaaay back in the day before cookies remembered everything (or before I knew they did), I wanted the quickest log-in process possible.

I have always liked how it's fairly apparent to anyone who knows the site to make the connection between me and my screen name, but I also like the idea that who you are on the boards is not necessarily who you are in your professional writing capacity (if it was, I'd say everything in an article and never post ... we writers have opinions too, you know!)

Since you asked.

This is a fine tangent, if you ask me, retagent. Although I think there's already a thread called What's Your Real Name or something to that effect. :)

Thank you. Life is better because of your efforts. As a parent of a d3 kid, I am proud to be addicted to your site, rather than all the alternatives. May your days be joyous and I hope our paths cross in Allentown,
