Who are some of the top coaches at our DIII level with the best career records?
Buena Vista coach is currently 251-79 for a .7606 winning percentage. He is in his 12th year of coaching at Buena Vista. Just curious about how some other coaches stack up.
Mike Neer at the University of Rochester is in his 32nd year with a record of 527-303 (I believe the numbers are correct)
Dave Hixon at Amherst is currently 571-223 (winning percentage of .7191) in 31 years. A few more wins in the NESCAC tourney and the NCAA tourney and he'll have a shot at 600 by the end of next season. More wins than Neer with a higher percentage but a lower percentage than the BV coach. I'm sure there are other coaches out there with higher winning percentages -- might want to set a minimum number of games coached for this question (150?).
Record over the past 6 years though is 156-20, for a .8864 winning percentage. That one will be tough to beat I suspect.

That's awesome, thanks.
36 year old Greg Mason at Centre is currently 164-69 in his 9th year, which should put him in the top 25 of winningest active D3 coaches at the end of this year. He has never had a loosing season, and his players go on to be successful business men, coaches, doctors, lawyers, and teachers. He has two former players playing professionally in Europe, and another is Coach Petino's administrative assistant at Louisville.
Steve Moore at Wooster is currently 574-176 (winning percentage of 76.5% :)) in his 27 years of DIII coaching (21 years at Wooster).
Wooster (20-3) has now won 20 or more games in 12 consecutive seasons.

Moore has built a veritable dynasty at Wooster. He's to be commended by D3 roundballers everywhere.
More than 7 years later...I was scrolling and bored.
Bob Semling at Stevens Point is in his 11th year and is 246-57, good for .812 winning %. His .818 entering this season was the highest among active coaches with a minimum of 10 seasons of being a head coach.
Let's update this a little!
Ken DeWeese, the rival coach at UMHB, has been at UMHB for 16 seasons.
He has a national finals loss to Amherst in 2013.
He started coaching in 1969 and is 708-239 (.747) all-time and in 16 seasons at UMHB he is 304-134 (.694)
Steve Moore is up to 755-216 (.778) in 34 years overall, 668-151 (.816) in 28 years at Wooster, entering this season.

John Tauer is likely up there at St. Thomas, though he hasn't been there 10 years (6?).
Also, Pat Miller's numbers (UW Whitewater) aren't as high as Bob Semling's, but they're very comparable, and he's been at the helm longer.
Other names that come to mind... Grey Giovanine at Augustana has been there 15 or so years and is likely north of 75%.
Gary Grzesk at St. Norbert
Mark Edwards at Wash U
I didn't think Grzesk was there that long, maybe 7 years. But, he just misses the cut at 9. He's 169-58, good for just .744. He took 23 losses in his 1st two seasons.
Giovanine has been at Augie 16 years; his record is just north of .650 (there have been some down years, both early and more recently).

I know that we're... corrupted (?) because our guy is at the top of the heap... but winning 3/4 games over a career is quite the achievement.
If you take away the 23 losses from the first two years (the 23 wins too), he's north of 80% (136-25) for the last 7 years. If he continues to have years like the recent (24-2 last year, 25-2 two years ago, 23-4 in 09-10), then he may continue to creep up.
Here you go.

Semling is #1 in d3, Miller is #2, followed by Steve Moore and Dave Macedo (from VA Wes)
John,
Sorry, that came off wrong. I was expecting his percentage to be higher simply because I was using St. Norbert's recent dominance and stellar records the last few years. I had forgotten about his first few lean years.

Sorry I mistook your statement. I think we're in the same page!

Logie (Whitworth) will likely top the winning % list next year once he's eligible as this is his 5th year. Currently at .858, of course since he inherited a great team/program year 5-10 will be more telling of his abilities as a head coach. The X's and O's have been great, the recruiting needs to be a little better if they want to continue to compete at the highest level in d3.

It's minimum 10 years coaching for the list.
Pg 39, winningest active coaches, only a 5 yr minimum. No idea what "list" you are talking about...
Right after that is a list with the winningest coaches of all time (page 40) and that one requires 10 years. But the list of active coaches (which is the topic of this thread) requires five as you pointed out.
I had no idea that Centre's coach had that many wins.
Amber Warners is in her 14th year as head coach of the Calvin volleyball program. She also served as interim head volleyball coach at Hope College in 1994. In 14 years as a head collegiate volleyball coach prior to the 2015 season, Warners has compiled an impressive won-loss record of 415-76 for a winning percentage of .845 that ranks her second among active NCAA III coaches for winning percentage. In 14 years as Calvin's head coach, she has compiled a won-loss record of 394-65 for a winning percentage of .859.
Now if we could only get our men's bball coach to figure out how she does it. :)
