Title: What do coaches at DIII level Look at?
Post by: hawk07 on April 30, 2008, 05:31:09 PM
I am a Football player from Oregon. There arent many D3 programs around locally for me other then Linfield, Lewis and Clark, Willamatte University. But what do coaches at this level look for as far as talent goes? I know d2 is about size with speed and I've heard that D3 is all about speed. Is it true? Post what you think helps an athlete at this level to be succesful. Thanks

dear oregonian,

as a parent of a player on a pretty good d3 team, Muhlenberg College, I see speed being  important as size, but good football smarts, a nose for the ball, and desire being  important....willingness to learn and work hard go far..

exactly. Size and speed, or a combination of both, is important, but the rest of the things that mule said are more important. Having decent grades to get in a school doesn't hurt either. PM me if you have any more questions.

A good rule of thumb to use at all levels of play for a heirarchy of desirable qualities is first the intangibles (toughness, desire, dedication, etc.), then quickness, then speed, then strength, then size.
