3 Southern California teams are in first rounds of D3 Soccer playoffs.
Cal Lu's woman's soccer team received a first round bye in the upcoming D3
national tourney and will face the winner of the Redland's/Chapman first round game. Puget Sound, the only other West Coast team to be selected will travel to Texas for their first round contest.
Good luck to all the teams.
UPDATE: Chapman will host Redlands Thursday at 3:00 PM with the winner traveling to Cal Lu on Saturday for a 1:00 PM match.
More details at chapmanathletics.com
Good update. Thanks.
Redlands 2, Chapman 1 in a hard fought first round action match tonight at Chapman University. Redlands travels to Cal Lu for a 1:00 PM (West Coast DST ) match on Saturday. Good Luck to both teams.
Redlands disposed of nationally ranked Cal Lu in a second round NCAA D-3 playoff contest. Cal Lu had strolled thru the regular season, but was upset by Redlands in the post season tourney. Redlands had the automatic bid and Cal Lu had been awarded an at large bid, with a higher seed than Redlands.
So how is Redlands dispatching their opponents so easily? Their record wouldn't have provided any warning that they were going to steamroll everyone...the last three matches make them look like a 17-3 team!
In the first round match against Chapman, Redlands passed (kicked) the ball to the outside. Their outside speed is tremendous. After quickly moving the ball downfield they were then in a position to pass to one of two players coming up the middle, who also had good speed.
Redlands was a well disciplined team that executed their plays. Needless to say, the goalie is also very effective. They had many close games during the season that they lost, that probably kept them off the rankings radar list.
They are peaking at the right time. But, as the competition gets tougher, we will see how the west coast soccer stacks up against the rest of the country.
Thanks. It is great when a program can get their game on at just the right time! And, as far as the "better competition" goes, for Redlands to win the first two rounds and make the S16 is an accomplishment in itself. They are the Best in the West!
Judging from the first half against HSU the west coast speed slowed down. From the video it looks like a very short cut grass which is great for a fast game.
They lost to the real No. 2 team in the country 2-0. I thought their performance was pretty good. They had the momentum in the second half and played HSU fairly tough. Not a bad loss at all, and a great run for the Bulldogs.
The Chapman Women's Soccer Team ventures for the first time to the Midwest. Their road trip includes matches against Aurora 10/7, then a trip down the interstate to take on Illinois Wes. on 10/9, followed by an Elmhurst matchup the next day (10/10). Alot of soccer in a short period of time. But it will be a good experience for the Ladies.
A road trip to Illinois is a good one for Chapman. Aurora is an unknown for me this season, but they will give Chapman a challenge, as will Elmhurst. Illinois Wesleyan will be a handful - they have been a top 15 program for five plus years now. A competitive match with the Titans would be a big plus for Chapman.
